- Everyone should at least drive an old Subaru. No they aren't the prettiest, or the most reliable, but when the surface gets slippery, few cars are as much fun.

Love my 02 bug in snow. It's so well behaved and controllable. You can literally hold an angled drift under throttle for what feels like forever. No Si drive , no DCCD, just pure control in raw form.
Your new vs. old WRX video is by far my favorite. Words can not describe the excitement I felt when I saw this video dedicated to the Bugeye come across on my feed. I will be buried in this car.
the hard part is finding one stock
Honestly lol was looking for stock i ended up getting the wrx for a deal
@@meowzir186 ill sell you my stock bugeye 86k miles
There's one on eBay for 4k with 140k miles and looks in descent condition
Honestly the 02 wagons are easier to find than the sedans and i think it looks better
Found mine almost stock (except Suspension and Wheels) but id had/has rust
I placed the winning bid and imported a 2001 JDM Bugeye STI wagon in November of last year. It has been my only car since then. I drive it almost every day, and it sits outside overnight. I live in Canada btw. Guess how many mechanical problems I've had? Only 1: a torn and leaking axle boot. No head gasket problem. No ringland problem. No rod bearing knock. Turbo still boosts to 19psi without complaining. Gear shifts are smooth...and the engine noise!
This is the best car I have ever owned. I wouldn't sell for less than $30k. It's that good.
miss mine everyday wish I never sold it, stay strong brothers!
I bought one in 2010 for $6000 and became extremely attached to it. Nothing beats how fun it is in the snow. I took it off the road this year due to strut tower rot and it sits in my garage waiting for a repair. I am disappointed this was my first car because everything out there that suits my needs and budget won't match it, including the 2009 WRX I currently own.
Fixing strut rust on my bug wagon in 23 lol
Eye love my bugeye, will never sell it !
Same here man. Never
Couldn't sell either of mine.
same! mine isn't going anywhere!
Same
Same 😍
I learned very quickly in the snow in these old wrxs...its way better to mash the throttle than apply the brakes.
Agree. Feels like you are under steering like any other cars in the winter, then you step on the gas and the awd system just claw you out of the corner.
My first Subaru was a 2002 WRX wagon. It was upstate NY, so it had rust. Such a fun car to drive and the AWD is great. I now own a 2013 Crosstrek and a 96 Impreza Outback Wagon. I like the turning radius in the Crosstrek and it's a nice ride. But, my Impreza is 5 speed, has UEL headers and catback exhaust. It's fun to drive and definitely more raw.
Bought one in 2007 for $15k. Within a year I'd replaced the engine with a oem long block, and the trans with a STi 5 speed (look it up) I've been driving it daily ever since with no major failures. But....you have to drive them nicely. No 5k clutch dumps
So glad you made this video. This is what always excited me since I got my driver's license. Drifting in the snow in an old subie
Just bought a 260k mile example today for a little over $1k as my first car, so excited
A lot of snow here in the UK and my JDM bug eye is amazing in this weather
Practice what you preach, gotta find a nice Subaru myself 😁 I’m particularly fond of the 90’s pre bugeye styling
God the way that the snow is cascading around the car is just so. Fucking. Gorgeous.
Can concur, I have an old Outback station wagon that I bought for $1500.00, I lucked out because the motor had been recently gone through. Have now had the car for 4 years with an intermediate level of mantinance needed. I've driven that car every day of the week, over mountains in the dead of winter, drifted it in empty parking lots, (also winter 😆). Except for the trademark quirks, Subaru cars are awesome 😎
yeh, picked myself up a bugeye wagon. just got upgraded control arms, and all polyurethane bushes all round for it. waiting on sway bars. thing will handle beautifully :') just done the unboxing vid off all the parts aha
Great video man! We need more of these, just for the hell of it videos!
You described perfectly why i imported my bugeye wrx they're soo much fun in the snow
I just got mine for Christmas 2003 bug eye with 13000 miles not bad I love it so far.
was lucky to pick up an 04 blobeye impreza, couldn't be happier
Just got my WRX 2003 with 95k 8grand clean
3:18 - is the point of today motor industry and marketing shit.. just get old Forester XT or WRX or even normal subaru.. and you'll love it.
Always like the bug eye subaru..

@@shaneyousef9868 I live in the UK
Love my GC8.
I love the bugeye
I just bought a black one of these for 9500 with 76k miles from the original owner whos an old dude who drove it super conservativly. I fell pretty lucky tbh... edit: 110% stock too.
Love my Bugeye
On loose surfaces give me a plate LSD over a torsen diff any day. On tarmac though... torsen all day.
Love my JDM version 7 Sti...
Bugeye STi highfive!
YOU NEED A KILLER B TEAR DROP SHIFT KNOB! -(03 wrx wagon owner)
the new intro 👌
I’m sorry guys but I think I may have won, here is what I found.
2002 bugeye
100% stock/factory
NO RUST
Perfect mechanical condition
170k miles
$4k
Did I win?
Where you find such stock?
Hell yeah you won
the best part is these are quite easily imported from japan at low cost too.. just a little bit of maintenance and youre set!
@@RyanSmithSnowboardin where/how do you import from, I don't trust anything I've looked up even though it looks legitimate.
@@bryanpatrick3070 well I'm in manitoba Canada so I went through bpro in Calgary . You need to have a reputable importer which they are. Also ask for a secondary in person inspection and most good importers will do this. On my car there was body damage that wasn't listed so I wish I had done that. With the current market I personally don't think it's worth it unless you specifically want rhd. I now have a 09 sti as jdm prices are the same as usdm now when before they were at least 5k cheaper 4 years ago.
Dude were still rocking in our wrx gc8 here in Ireland lol ,,alot of imports thoe type ra type r usuiall spec ,,, like you said rust issue's
I bet they’re fun
Should I buy a 2002 WRX
70 k miles
Never modified
$8700
Sui G yes
JJ lol
Missed my opportunity on a gem. Someone bought it. Lol
ill take a beater subaru anyday" drives one of the cleanest stock bugeyes.
how can a wrx be 5k?? here in spain one like that would be for 8k euros at his lowest price!!
Here in NA we actually have a Saab that is a WRX in disguise aka the 'Saabaru'. It's actually better than the WRX (STI steering) and I got it for even less because as a 'Saab' it's less popular. It's the only cool car we got however, you guys got el resto. ;)
Bought my 02 Bugeye for $4500 recently.
Just bought one for 3k 139k miles
If we are only talking about fun in the snow, then yes an old Wrx would do it. Unfortunately we are living in a world that most of people have to drive to work, to grocery store, to relative's house that is a few hundred miles away. The exterior, interior and electric system of this Wrx is way too old by today's standard. I wouldn't take it as a daily driver just because fun is not the only thing I'm looking for in a car.
Do you have wrx regret?
Throttle House I don't have regret. But I just wish it was a little more refined and comfortable especially when I'm stuck in Toronto's bumper to bumper traffic on the 401, or during road trip to Quebec. I'd probably get a Golf R with DSG when my 18 wrx lease finishes.
Filmed at tmp!??
gonna need the intro song asap..
Yess thank youuuu skiiiids 👌🏻🚙💨
Was tempted to get an old WRX, but the reliability fears kept me from pulling the trigger ($5,000 is great, provided nothing else goes wrong). Heard too many horror stories about oil leaks etc. How did you find the shifter?
Shifting is amazing as It uses mechanical linkage, no cables. Im daily driving an 02 wrx and I love it. Very reliable and super easy to learn / work on. Plus whenever it snows up here in Canada I get to go drift around everyone digging their front tires out of the snow for their civics!
I'm dailying the same car, i agree, even when things go wrong they're so easy to work on and the aftermarket/ used parts market is huge. parts are generally cheap if you know where to look
I have an 02 WRX sedan and it was the best purchase of my life i'm so glad i got the chance to own one after searching for 2 years to find a good one.
daiheadjai I've owned a few Subarus and I find them to be very reliable if STOCK or LIGHTLY modified. WRXs can't really handle big power without major modification, and most people don't realize that most mods require a tune to avoid issues. Yes they require more maintenance than your average corolla, but that's any turbo car. Any stock WRX will be fine for long term ownership. Now finding one of those is the hard part!
GC8 WRX still wonderfull th-cam.com/video/WTeAJNnemGQ/w-d-xo.html
Love my bugeye. Too bad it's stuck at home with a blown radiator and leaking head gasket 😢
I just worry about bhg....my ej25 was bulletproof
I've got an 02
and i have my impreza 1998 rs coupe
01 jdm bugeye 20k, with 52000kms wouldn't trade it for anything
How is the reliability on these compared to a honda or toyota ?
If you can even find them for sale 😩
Hey, maybe you know the name of those wheels?
I’m not sure but they are Dai wheels.
Well im convinced haha
If I become a very rich person I’m going to buy a few of every gen sti
But that Focus RS drift though ;)
lol
here I am worrying about driving uphill in a snowy surface
Damn, i passed on a bugeye a week ago for 4500. If I had just been more educated. What a fool I am
I just bought an 02 Bugeye Wrx for $4500 last week. I'm new to the area I'm at rn so idk any good places to snow drift. But there's tons of snow rn n I want to go snow drifting soo bad!
i have my bugeye
New automotive youtuber here. Just uploaded a new video if you're looking for new content!
ha ha fun video!
yea subies are good until you have to pull the engine to replace a head gasket
Luckily turbo models didn't have that problem.
John lts easy day job to pull engine and do gaskets
Amen to that lol. Happened to my bro's 07 Impreza. Ended up selling it for something newer.
Impreza lump can be out in 1hr 35mins
@@jayhow997 that's 100%
I paid 1000 for my wrx
Saetto Max what’s wrong with it?
$5000? i wish lol
They only rust on USA’s dumb salt roads lol
I don’t think they didn’t make a bug eye in 2003 only in 2002 when it first hit America
I think 2003 they had the blob eye or the hawk eye
Mines a 03 bug eye. halfway in 03 they made the blobeye so there's a early 03 bug eye and a later 03 blob eye
you dont need a wrx, 2.5 na is enough
I started with a 2.5ts and got bored of the low power too linear power band. The wrx is much more fun to drive.
Whohoo, first first first
I owned an old Subaru once. I was the worst POS that I have ever owned. Will never buy another Subbie because of it.
why
I bought a '77 Subaru station wagon in '82. Car had 60,000 miles on the clock. After one year, and many repairs later, it died. Got it towed in and assessed. Bill was $1,100 (mind you this was 1983). The transmission was shot, engine block cracked, etc. Asked the mechanic to get it "running" and this set me back $25. Limped into the nearest Honda dealer and traded it off for a new '83 Civic 1300 FE. I realize 1983 was long ago (yes, I'm an anachronism - I don't have a full beard, begin every reply with "so", nor do.I.write.sentences.like.this.) but the memory of that POS was so vivid that I would never buy another Subaru.
BorisW150 I think Subarus have changed a little since 1977!
To each his own.
You were just unlucky th-cam.com/video/WTeAJNnemGQ/w-d-xo.html
