The 2005-2008 Forester XT was such a great looking car. Now, the Forester is just another boring crossover.

@@qourmange they're getting harder to find, at least in good condition. I traveled to get my 2008 XT about six months ago after looking online for a couple of years to find one. It had 40k miles on it and was super clean. I don't think I'll ever part ways with it.
I have 2006 Forester Xt since 2006 with some STi upgrades and I have no plans to sell.

Have an 07 FXT manual. Never letting it go. I learned the hard way after letting my 04 FXT manual go.
Forester all day, it’s just an oddball of a car, this big old bus that’ll do 0-60 in 5 or less seconds is insane, that’s why I adore it, happily take one over an Impreza
I did. It's great because it's less yobby and you can put stuff in the back ...camping gear, bikes etc :-)
i've got an 01 forester gt with an ej207 from an 04 sti. Even lighter that this one. Can confirm, you can get them sideways pretty easily. Awesome car, never want to sell it

Apples to apples I absolutely love the Forester. For a 1 second sacrifice you get a much more versatile vehicle overall. I'm on my 2nd one and absolutely love it.
Got myself an imported 2006 Forester STI, back in Feb this year and what a beast. I have had BMW, Audi, Volvo, Rover (216 GSI - Honda engine), most brand new, but nothing comes close to grin factor and all round capability of a Subaru SG9 Forester.
I’ve owned multiple cars over the years, chopped and changed some of my cars regularly but one car I don’t move on is my Subaru Forester XT, cars just aren’t made like these early 00’s Subaru’s.
Love vbh. She even drops the f-bomb when the car lurches forward.

I have a 04 XT manual and an 05 XT auto. The 04 with the VF48 is a beast. A lot of high end cars have got whipped by that old car. I don't think I be able to ever sell it. Either.

It's embarrassingly fast (for the opposition) and a true sleeper with the dog guard in the back and tow bar off the rear 🤣
Same here, no towbar though and the dog guard is in storage :-)

A golden oldie this one, must be 10 years old. The drastic fall in sales of Subarus in the UK since then is sad. Only 3,000 sold in the UK in 2018, compared to 50,000 in Australia in 2018 which has a third of the population of the UK
The German cars are alot cheaper over here tho we don't really need things like the outback and forester when the road tax is so expensive you could get a full size 4x4 and the impetza isn't as good as the golf r or Honda civic or seat leon cupra in terms of spec and to buy these sort of cars you can't be working at McDonald's.
They aren’t making exciting normal models anymore, you can’t get a fun non-sti/wrx anymore. You used to be able to get a 2.0 NA AWD Impreza and legacy with a manual box that we’re great to drive. And the legacy spec B with the 3.0 was a monster! Now they are all diesel and CVT and ugly as hell.

I've got the 04 sti. Peoples reactions to it vary wildly. Most people dont know what it is, but for some it's almost like seeing a unicorn. I had driving instructor tell his learner to stop so he could take a picture of it when I getting some coffee

I've bought 2 x 2001 Foresters now. One manual(crashed unfortunately) and now I have an Auto STI. Love them.
I am currently importing a forester sti to Canada and am so excited ... especially after watching this video!

I have a first Gen impreza but have always wanted an 05 xt! Absolutely love all the early 2000s Subarus!
I own a Litchfield JDM forester STI and it is a absolute beast with ISO clips in the back lol Mental thing, a good condition one now is worth over £16,000 for good reason there is not much like it.
Still one of my favourite Fifth Gear Subaru features! This is up there with Plato and Needell in the Evo vs STi battle !
i brought a 2001 sf forester gt turbo and i did brakes suspension and steering - exhaust turbo and wow it is a killer beats $150,000 cars no worries - $14,000 more smiles per miles !

Have a 17 plate WRX STi but before that I test drove a used Forrester XT that had been through the Prodrive workshops. I loved it but I did not buy it as I would lose my licence! Awesome awesome awesome car!!!

There's a 700+ hp impreza wagon near me great that you can do the same to the forester.
Hp isn’t everything. Lowered, the wagon will corner MUCH faster than a forester.

If the lap shown here is the final, I would say this isn't a fair test. She adjusted the diff, and almost lost it with the hand brake.
Remember when I watched this on tv. Having owned a Hawkeye already, I'm still lusting after a Forester STI.

Subaru got popularity due to PETER SOLBERG💓
Well.. I think Colin Mcrae was the first one to make people aware that the Impreza existed, and Petter Solberg was one of the people later on that kept Subaru going. Especially with that WRC win in 2003.
But i do know for a fact that he popularized the Impreza in Norway. We are really proud to have a norwegian WRC winner.
For any Subaru fanatics, did the extra 500cc make much of a difference to torque and power delivery??? I much prefer the looks of these old Impretzas compared to the new ones. A true all year round supercar killer!!!

David Kennedy Yes it did: much more kick on power rpm. 2.0 Is still a great choice and much more reliable. Stock 2.0 and 2.5 engines will get similiar performance when remapped - 2.5 liter engine seems to have lower safety factor and cant take much power increase. Ive got 2005 forester 2.0 xt, 260 HP 400 Nm after remap. its incredibly fast and with susspension mods it feels like a sports car

Have an 04 Forester XT. Was teying to buy a Legacy but this popped up javing been owned by Victoria Wood for over a decade and I had a daft moment. I'm a Saab guy and have a classic 900t16s among others, including a 9-5 aero. The aero is comfortable, fast but has the personality of Ten Hag. The Forester is a blast to drive, hugely capable in the snow we het once a decade and has the personality of Brian Clough after a keban and six beers; Love the car. Also like the fact that it's sligjtly ugly, in an Adam Driver kinda way.
Why does she say it's only available as a grey import when that's blue? Also as standard they're 265bhp not 330

The engines on the version 9 STI's are not reliable .How many engine rebuilds has the average STI 9 owner had? No doubt there will be some people who will say it's down to maintenance and they have had no engine rebuilds
Well, it sounds like you can clearly explain to the rest of us as to why EJ25 engines and it's various variations are not reliable?

I never said all the ej25 engines I referred to the ej25 specifically in the STI 9.my STI 9 has had at least 2 complete engine failure before I bought the car

As to why they fail there are many reasons ringlands break
One of my cars previous owners suffered a cam belt breakage at 40k and the engine was replaced under warranty.
As for some reasons
1.the oil pickups crack around the brazing
2.the engine has an open deck block so the headgaskets fail and the solution is making it closed deck
There are many reasons but I will leave it to you to add a few to the list

People don't change the oil coolers after an engine re build that causes all the metal from the previous engine failure to mess up the new anyone that's another reason people forget.
And switching from maf based tuning to map also helps
As does improving the oiling
