Agreed. Thanks a really complete explanation of all the vehicle's design assets. A lots of reviews are too focused on its tech, which is leading edge by far, and not enough on the all-around package. A firm ride means a car that handles precisely plus can be be more agile to evade accidents. The styling may not by futuristic. But, it will age well for years. Enjoy! She's a beauty. Looking forward to ours in Canada late this year.

I thought I knew everything I needed to know about the Y before I ordered one, but now I'm ready to place my order Can't wait to see the smiles on my kids faces when I floor it (will set up a camera to capture that moment for the 1st time 😀)
My 3 year old absolutely lit-up when I floored it at a light. And this just from going 0-40 mph on a small city road. Gotta love that flat line acceleration.
Brilliant review. Best I have seen about model Y. I just got a MY, first Tesla, first EV and had looked at hundreds of videos about ride, no dials in front of steering wheel, looks etc. This review is exactly what I felt after getting my MY. What I like about this review is it focus’s on the car and talks to the practical issues people may have. When you then add the Tesla extras like software, charging network etc. It’s a compelling package.
When someone is using language such as over-engineering, you know this person actually knows what design is about and what kind of processes are involved in it. Nicely done video from the design perspective!
Such a great review! Didn’t just copy what everyone else is saying like I’m sure a lot of the other reviewers do. Getting my model Y next month and this has made me more excited.
I went on a test ride with the Model Y LR with 19“ wheels yesterday and everything that you said perfectly summarizes my impressions. Especially in terms of the acoustic experience inside the car as well as the the design being very modest, sporty and elegant while being such a big car with lots of space. I‘m absolutely fascinated how well they‘ve managed to put advantages of all types of different cars into this one vehicle that will not only make myself happy when I‘m alone on the road, but also my entire family with lots of space and comfort all at the same time. We‘ll order ours soon. Was very nice hearing from someone who owns the car and is still having the same impressions and being happy about it. Thanks a lot!
Yeah it’s fantastic - quite remarkable how many cars it replaces! I’ll be doing a new video soon on the magic that the electric drive offers for day to day driving - people don’t realise the impact it has on flow and making progress safely.

Great, straightforward review. So true about the looks. Photos and videos don't really do it justice. It's a good point about proportion. When seen in the real world, the sizing and proportion of the MY, to my eyes, is spot on. It's easy for people to say it's a bloated M3, which I understand , but I would go as far to say I think the MY is Tesla's best looking vehicle so far.

Very well explained video! I will save this for anyone wondering about the benefits of owning a new Tesla. I’ve often said over the years if Tesla can slowly improve on the quality they will be even more harder to beat! And it looks like they are improving. I love your explanation of Teslas design, some people may find the exterior and interior boring, especially in light of the design language that has been used for a while now, but I think it is simply enough and not over designed or over thought.
What a great review, probably the best one I’ve seen online about the Model Y. I ordered mine, a Long range in Graphite grey with the 20” black alloys, in early April, it’s being delivered in June. Can’t wait, thank you once again for an excellent review👏👏
Great perspective. Great video. I'm in the middle of writing my own Model Y review, but I didn't come from a M3. Great to hear your comparison from the one to the other.
Excellent review, reassuring me that I have made the right decision to trade in my 2021 Model 3 LR (previously I had a 2019 Model 3 performance) for a Y. I love Teslas.

Fantastic review with original, intelligent critique. Thank you, it’s made a difference to my apprehension around receiving my Model Y Performance later in the year.
I have watched many discussions/review about Y and most of them say the same thing. Thank you for bringing new information and new perspectives on the car.
Really good job of pointing out differences that no other review I've seen so far has noticed. The door bins, the steering wheel, the light in the boot ect. I didn't know about any of these before and I thought I knew everything about the Model Y. Really good, kind of shows up everyone else's review really missing detail and not really adding anything new.
One thing you didn't mention however is the wing mirrors, I have heard they are different to the Model 3 in the sense that they don't stick out quite so far? Is that true, that's quite an important thing considering it is wider than the Model 3 (which is already a fairly wide car) and I (like many others) will intend to take this car to places like Cornwall where the roads can be extremly narrow and the stone walls very unforgiving.
They are quite short width-wise but still pretty tall to give good coverage. I can see the rear tyres pretty well when they tilt down in reverse. I haven’t felt them an issue on narrow lanes yet, actually the width seems much less of an issue to me than I thought it was going to be. It is so easy to reverse with the cameras I just tent to hold a good central position and be happy to back up as needed to avoid any squeezing.
Outstanding video. I'm coming up to a month on my Y and every day I find myself being impressed with a design consideration I never expected. I had to pick up a 13kg patio gas tank over the weekend. Always dreaded doing this as it never felt safe dirivng around with a full gas tank rolling around by boot like a pinball! However the tank fitted perfectly under the false floor of the boot. Even the shape of that compartment was like it was specifically for this. So impressed!

@@joey-pn3xe And when did Tesla market the TMY as a luxury car? Please tell me! Maybe do a little research before making a fool of yourself🤡 And maybe move to an area with decent roads.
@@Birdfeeder795 lol car makers usually engineer suspensions to give a good ride quality on every surface, not only good surfaces… do you know a place (at least in the US) where there are only good road surfaces?? And yes Tesla prices are premium so they should offer decent suspensions on their model 3’s and model Y’s. Stop defending them it’s with an attitude like this that they will keep selling us $60k-70k cars with go kart suspensions… I own a model Y too and the suspension is definitely the worse part of the car by far so let’s not pretend 🙄
@@Birdfeeder795 such a silly comment. Why would I move house because of a car! The model Y feels very unsettled and you feel every bump. Engage your brain and stop accepting crap. Tesla are great at a lot of things, hence why I decided to test drive but tell the truth.
From someone who has a Y since the UK launch day and gotten to know it quite well, I'd say you're review was bang on. The only thing I would add is ability to use the Tesla Supercharger network which compared to other EV charging facilities is a game changer if you are doing high mileage, national role like myself.
Yep totally, doesn’t bear thinking about the hassle of charging with all the random providers and issues with non-superchargers! I have heard some stories from Jag owners…!
Thanks ben. Really enjoyed your videos. I have watched lots of others before committing to the model Y and found your videos due to the bike rack one. Good to hear from a fellow English family man with similar demands to my own. Great video quality too!
Have really been enjoying your videos ever since finding your series about the search for the perfect keyboard. Very high-quality production, and great points. Keep up the great work!
My salesperson at Carmax said that my 2021 Model Y was just a bigger version of the Model 3. I think it more accurate to say it is a smaller version of the Model X, while the Model 3 is just a smaller version of the Model S. And having driven a 2019 Model 3 for 3 weeks before getting the Model Y, it is obvious the Y is a significantly more substantial car than the 3. Better doors, better sound proofing, better seats. That said, the Model 3 is waaay more fun to drive. My wife loved it too, and she's not that into cars usually. She said she's never driven a car that was so easy and fun to drive.
Yeah my wife likes this one too, agree though the 3 is the proper drivers car of the two but boy is the Y impressive considering everything else you get with it.
Thanks for an excellent video, a refreshing change from the usual channels. I’m particularly pleased with your findings, as I’ve decided to cut early from my M3LR to get into a MYLR. Driving a Model 3 has been my best automotive experience to date, even if it hasn’t been my “favourite car”. Your video supports my belief that the Model Y would be even better. Watching some of the other reviews I was starting to have doubts. Roll on June delivery 🙂. Love the detail in your review. Great work, thank you!
I love that you called out a bunch of reviewers with your comments. I have been dissatisfied with multiple reviewers getting the largest wheels, then complaining about a rough ride. Or people reviewing a performance model, then complaining about suspension stiffness. Then you also get the clowns who want to say the vehicle has "no soul" because they can't hear the fuel explosions and mechanical sounds.
Great video. Have a M3 on order which I think will come from Shanghai so hopefully the build quality will be up to the standard of your Y. However your video has seriously tempted me to go for a Y instead...
Yeah the hepa filter makes a pretty serious case for the Y. Other than that though I would make the choice based on requirements for storage space I think.
Just changed my order to a MY. Took it for a test drive last week and agree with you that the ride is fine. That and the extra space are the main reasons for changing the order. Thanks for your video- really helped.
Thank you. I enjoyed your thoughts on the vehicle very much. We've owned a Model 3 LR for just about a month and, based on the driving experience we're already considering buying a Model Y to go along with it. You may have just convinced me to pull the trigger.
My friend has one, its nice, the boot space is awesome. The ride is harsh though, and the turning circle is that of a small ship, it's also expensive (at least in the UK)
@@maxflight777 it's not, when you have to do a 3 point turn around a mini roundabout, it has a big turning circle, my A4 didn't do that, neither does my Ioniq 5
Great video Ben only just found your channel I have just took delivery of a model y I can’t agree with you more on all the points your raised in your video a brilliant vehicle without a doubt the king of electric vehicles 👍
Another very enjoyable review from you. I really appreciate what you do Ben. My white RWD MY is just a few weeks away and I'm making plans to drive it across the country from Perth to Sydney and back to Perth. To do this, I have to cross the Nullabor Plain which is around 1200kM in length. I need to sort out rest stops with destination chargers. I know that there is one roadhouse that has DC charging which is powered by a diesel generator using old frying fat from the kitchens. Maybe not the most environmentally sound idea for power generation but apparently a whole lot better than coal or gas. Once I get to South Australia things should improve and the eastern states of NSW and Victoria have DC chargers in abundance. Certainly exciting plans. This will really put the MY to the test.
Loved this review and many others you have done. The facts are laid out clearly. I’m super excited to replace my Audi Q5 with the MY. Far more interior space for a family of 5. Plus I’ve order the roof bars to use my bike racks.
I think you’re video is one off the best Iv seen on a car, and as for Tesla’s ore any EV Iv been one which would run them down. But things have changed as my boy has just got a brand new model Y so Iv been looking at a lot of videos of them and as you can guess I’m looking that them different now and my boy and his wife they love theirs
Excellent, informative and comprehensive presentation. Thank you. What I find lacking in Tesla, is the understanding that humans will be using the cars. The door handles confuse would-be passengers to the point that I have bought a set of bluetooth buttons to assign to my most needed functions; like opening the passenger door from the inside, toggling between Chill and Standard modes, turning rear ventilation on and off etc. Then there’s the major issue with the heat transfer of the glass roof into the cabin, for which I have bought fixed screens which totally block any view of and light through the roof. They also vastly reduce head-boiling… but as long as it looks good, right? Want to jack up the car to fix a puncture or rotate tyres? I bought a set of jack pucks for that. Autopilot is still unuseable as sold, due to it being about as confident as a 16 year old learner driver on their second lesson. So that is disabled before every drive, as is lane keeping and forward collision warning. None of those repetitious commands can be saved in a profile and so it’s a frustration to be reminded of the expense of buying a Tesla which doesn’t function as advertised. So we want to sell our 2021 M3LR (25,000 miles and needs a new set of tyres for approx £1,000) and maybe replace it with a 2024 MY RWD because it’ll will have to be a better made car than the current model Ys are. This means not owning an EV for a year or more and using our second car (Peugeot Rifter diesel) instead. The never ending list of promises of things yet to come grow less attractive as time passes. So what to do?
What I'll be revealing on the channel soon is that I've actually radically changed my approach here. I've sold my Model Y, picked up a 3yo Leaf for a song, and then picked up and old 2008 7 seat Landrover for long trips and other adventure roles that the Leaf doesn't meet. The Leaf has enough range for 80% of our miles which then makes the economics of the landrover work out. Both cars are paid for with the equity I had in the Tesla so no more repayments going out either but still enjoy the crazy per-mile cost from the Leaf for most of the miles. Very different way of looking at things but I'm stoked by the arrangement so far.
@@BenVallack may i ask to whom you sold the model Y? Presumably not as a trade-in but as a private sale? Was that an easy process and did you get your asking price? Also how did you calculate your asking price?
Great video. Great attention to details. Really nice quality of the sound recording. Was listening with my airpod max headphones and the sound recordings from inside the car was like I was sitting inside it. 👍
Thanks yeah the binaural mic recording is amazing with headphones. There is a mic literally in each ear so what you hear is very close in terms of spatial positioning etc.

Without question the best model Y video I’ve seen yet!!
Great vid. Insightful thoughts and good camerawork. Can't wait to order my MY from Berlin this autumn! Considering white interior...
It is also right sterring here. It is so comfortable to hear the explanation in received pronounciation.
Best Model Y review by far. Hands down. Well done! I’ve just subscribed
Loved your presentation of the car, so much different than traditional ones, but definitely better IMO
Thank you !
Wonderful to hear many thanks!
Excellent very well thought out and comprehensive review.
As a first time viewer, was impressed by your useful observations. As can be seen looking at comments by others, they share same
This is the most used video on the Y I’ve come across. Professionally delivered and shot perfectly. Great job sir. 👏
Thanks!
Love the uphill and downhill drives on the grass
Was great fun- going to do the same again but when it’s a bit wetter and test the off road assist mode.
This review is miles better than the usual boring, non-informative reviews from motoring journalists.
I knew I could rely on you for a proper review. You made me feel like I was sitting next to you in the car
Thank you. I enjoyed your thoughts on the vehicle very much. We've owned a Model 3 LR for just about a month and, based on the driving experience we're already considering buying a Model Y to go along with it. You may have just convinced me to pull the trigger.
I'm in the UK and have just ordered mine (due in two months). Now I REALLY can't wait! Thanks for this, Ben🚀
Best model y review I’ve seen - thanks!
Possibly?, probably, the very best car review I’ve ever seen!…absolutely brilliant, and very well delivered 👍👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks so much!!
What a fantastic review. So intelligent. Thank you.
excellent review….best I have watched since following Tesla Model Y on You Tube…thank you.
My friend has one, its nice, the boot space is awesome.
The ride is harsh though, and the turning circle is that of a small ship, it's also expensive (at least in the UK)
Turning circle is the same as a similar Audi or BMW SUV. Don’t exaggerate
Do you know a “cooking 320D” is now £40K.
I think the MY is reasonable value !
@@maxflight777 it's not, when you have to do a 3 point turn around a mini roundabout, it has a big turning circle, my A4 didn't do that, neither does my Ioniq 5
Probably the best model y video I’ve seen … stunning camera work 👍🏽
Great review Ben , and you have me very tempted now!
Well researched, spoken, detailed and delivered presentation. Thanks Ben
Great video Ben only just found your channel I have just took delivery of a model y I can’t agree with you more on all the points your raised in your video a brilliant vehicle without a doubt the king of electric vehicles 👍
Yeah the best - can't wait to get one again! (had to sell mine!)
Excellent Video!
Loved this review Ben, it’s what I needed to know about day to day use of the MY.
Excellent video, thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Good review , my Moidel Y arrives next Monday, now even more excited.
As someone who is trading their 2019 Tesla model 3 for a model Y in less than 3 weeks I found this very interesting. Thanks for your insights!
You’re in for a treat!
Thanks for the lovely comparison between the two models!
This video helped me convince my wife that the Model Y is the perfect family car
Mention the reclining rear seats to her. Great for the kids.
Wow, maybe the best video i have seen of the Model y! Can't wait to get mine soon :D
Amazing video as usual. The cinematography is incredible as well, feels as though I am watching a film!💙
Makes all those film studies A level lessons worthwhile thanks 🙏
Thank you so much for this review, it's the best one I've seen and has settled those nerves of had we ordered the right car
Ben your Model Y sounds just like my 2022 Model 3 , excellent video BTW
Good to know cheers!
You earned my subscription with this very informative video that might be my favorite Model Y video. Very practical, articulate, and sensible…Cheers!
