I hope that they are introduced into service soon. So far, the tests seem to be successful with very good battery duration, and they do look very smart in the GWR livery (which in itself is one of the best).
Even if these are utilised on the Thames Valley branches165/6 will still needed on Reading - Basingstoke, Newbury - Bedwyn, Didcot - Oxford, Reading Gatwick, so there will be some at Reading for the foreseeable future.
IDK, for vanity purposes at Greenford I think I would rather see a proper Network Rail train across from an actual Underground train. Even though GWR branded I think Greenford would lose it's distinction (visually) of hosting two networks.
I hope GWR have better luck with the 230s than the Isle of Wight (SWT) with the 484s (3rd rail variant of the ex LUL D78 stock from Vivarail - who have gone bust). They have just reduced the service tine to half-hourly to "save" the trains for maintenance for the summer. It seems they cannot keep up.
So far, GWR hasn't given us an exact date, only that it would be spring this year. When an exact date is announced, I'll put in a pinned comment on this video.
*Update* GWR has confirmed the trial will begin on Monday, March 18th, 2024. twitter.com/GWRHelp/status/1768584043249991705
Wow nice to see that they're bringing back the 230s to the line
I'm looking forward to seeing them on the Greenford branch.
Not quite - 001 has not previously been used in revenue service.

I agree the livery suits these units.
Looking forward to seeing them coming into service very soon.
Same here
Would be fab for the Severn beach line but I guess the Turbos will have to soldier on for a few more years

Thank you
Thumbs Up!👍 Fantastic Video! Kind regards👍
Thank you

I hope so, too, considering how the 230s have had problems with tfw too. Hopefully, the trial on the Greenford Branch is successful.
I want them on the Exmouth Line, Reading-Gatwick Line, Slough- Windsor Line, Greenford Line and the Maidenhead to Marlow line
Hopefully, if all goes well, we could see these units on more routes than just the Greenford branch.
Reading to Gatwick is better off with a special Bi mode train that does Third Rail & Diesel.
@@Mgameing123 better still Network Rail needs to stand up to ORR and install third rail
@@vincentlugthart4618 Network Rail can't do much with their tight budget.
Not too long now hopefully 😁
when are these going to be in service?

Ahhh I miss the old District Line stock
Same, they were my favourite.

GWR will be using these on the Greenford branch soon.
