Old Oak Common depot in acton, london had its final train depart, before closure to make way for the HS2 project.
5C24 - with powercars 43093 and 43185 departed at 16:45 - 3 early and arrived at London Paddington at 16:55, 9 early.
A small event was put on by the Old Oak Common team, including fireworks, detonators, music and food/drink to celebrate the end of the depot’s operations. With current and ex staff members and photographers invited to say their goodbyes.
Thanks for watching,
Eric
After that last HST left OOC so the very next day Network Rail took the Depot keys off us. We were supposed to retain control over the Depot until the 29th December 2018 but had to hand the keys back three weeks early. HS2 were so desperate to pull the final parts of this Depot down so to avoid delays to the HS2 project..
I worked there 30 years ago . Saw them leave all the time. Never thought there would be no more .
for railway workers seeing the class 43s dissappear and being replaced with the newer soleless engines must bring a lump in the throat, there wont be another HST 43 in terms of admiration and affection and appeal for a very long time
well done bud. a very sad sorry day indeed. i watched it arrive into weston-s-mare, and depart back out to padd. vid is on my channel. well done for getting this bit of history.
Feel like crying 😭
Don’t worry, scotrail will take good care of them :) two of them are parked up at my local station!
What your station
It's bloody sad!!
Today is the last time we will see an Intercity 125 on the GWR Mainline 😪
RIP OOC.
Because of HS2 construction
Was this the last day of GWR hst operations completely!? Are those 5 car sliding door units still in operation?
Dillwin24 hey, no GWR are still currently running full HST sets whilst the 800’s are introduced. This was the last HST to leave OOC HST depot before its all flattened for HS2.
The 2+4 ‘castle’ sets will be used between wales-cornwall i believe
@@UndergroundEric Thanks Eric. Where will they be maintained now? I know Landore recently saw it's last hst. Are these direct routes from Cornwall to Wales or do you mean from London. Presumably these sets have some life left in them with GWR?
Dillwin24 laira i think mate. Not sure pf the exact route they will be going i cant remember, deffo down west though.
They should be in use with GWR for a while
Nice horns
:c
They]'re only going across the tracks to north pole depot lol
xm3 no HST’s are going to north pole.
I'm talking about the workers.
Apologies I should've included that in my comment.
Only a handful of OOCs staff will be crossing over to Hitachi at North Pole Depot, so really it is quite a big deal, the depot that's serviced HSTs for 40 years and a fair few of the staff have spent a lot of their careers at the Oak.
@@jacobtyne9031 That is said where will the staff go :(
BUGGER THE HS2
My sentiments exactly.... Along with many other no doubt..
