  • A video now from a freight hotspot, Acton Main Line. Shot in June 1991 we see plenty of variety on this upload, NSE loco hauled expresses, mostly 47s but a lone 50 from the West of England pool passes going Up to Paddington along with 47 hauled Inter-City's. Four classes of NSE DMU are seen-bubble car 121s, 101, 117 and a 104 on an ECS move to Old Oak Common. On the freight side we see classes 37, 47 & 56 in action on engineers,Trainload Freight & RFD workings with the odd light engine. Plenty of 47 action on this vid to keep people happy (you know who you are, lol!). If you liked the video please subscribe to my channel, there are lots more transport & quirky vids to upload!

    This video reminds me when 47’s were everywhere and almost “boring” , now it’s a pleasure to see them . Class 66 have now taken over the “boring” title until of course they get superseded . Funny old world .

    Another great video. I feel like I'm repeating myself. So much my era.
    Acton, Ealing Broadway. Great places to hang about.
    I take it some of the loco hauled services were the Paddington to Oxford trains, seeing as HSTs had been around for over a decade?
    I used to live near Surbiton, which was a great spot for EMUs and loco hauled trains. Not only passenger traffic, but also the numerous parcels, mail and newspaper trains that would pass through.
    I recently moved to the North West, but still on a 3rd rail network, which is pleasing. I'm just rediscovering the pleasure of being on a platform and watching the trains go by. Manchester Oxford Road is good, it has a Costa with seats on the platform.
    I went there during the diverts when Acton Bridge route was closed.
    Certainly more variety here, what with the various sprinter classes, EMUs (although I believe we're going to lose the 319s) and the new trains on Transpennine, Northern and soon Merseyrail.
    You must have one hell of an archive.

      I had 53 three hour VHS tapes of BR alone without Underground and buses! And i'm still at it, out & about making new vids for uploading to YT. Even with modern buses and trains there is still an interest so i will keep going! I will have to sort out my vid from Surbiton of 50's storming through on the Exeters and maybe look for my Weybridge vid with the Exeters by then in the hands of 47s with a couple of peak hour workings that even non-stopped Woking. And yes, the Acton NSE loco hauled were the Oford and Newbury workings that didn't finish until 1992 when Turbos took over. Start chasing the Merseyrail units, they are on borrowed time now, i will have to get down there and start knocking them off for moves while visiting Wetherspoons pubs i haven't yet been to (I'm a Spoons ticker as well-lunacy knows no bounds!)

      Well. There are at least two 'Spoons' in Southport. Only been here 7 months, so still finding stuff out.
      As for the trains. Yup. 507s and 8s are on borrowed time. As are the 142 Pacers. It does cross my mind at Southport station. A pair of 142s at say platform 5, and 507/8s at platforms 1-3, and they could all be gone in 18 months time.
      I believe Northern are now going to lose the 319s in favour of ex Midland 323s. So get a few of them to.

    • @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus
      @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Possibly but not likey...The thing with class 47s was most depot's signed them and they would work the length of the country, many a Stratford 47 would spend months away from its home depot until SF put in a TOPS request to return to home depot (this would then falg up and it would be worked back on trains heading in the general direction of home) 706 may have been working in the south for weeks if not months before the official paper transfer came through......

      Acton was always a good spot for freight, and the Thames line loco haule sets a bonus. The 50 was from the West of England pool and must have been nabbed off Old Oak that morning for a return trip to Oxford or Newbury to cover for a lack of 47s! Those brick waiting houses! Drafty and stunk of piss, they did. xD I believe they disappeared after 1993.
    I don't suppose anyone would have photos or footage of the old ticket office entrance area, before they demolished it in 1995? I've seen plenty from platform level, but none showing the actual ticket booth window and its surroundings; like how it looked from the top of the stairs and the road bridge.

    • @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus

      It was ECS. At this time Old Oak provided the DMU stock for the Barking-Gospel Oak line. I'm guessing it was off to work on that line, i have seen bubble cars working it when short of two car units.

      They did but Old Oak still had the 50 s allocated for the West of England services from Waterloo. I'm guessing they were short of a loco that morning and had the 50 spare so out it went! I stayed at Acton for several hours and it never came back so i'm imagine it went back to Old Oak. A nice bonus for me and my mate though!

    • @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus
      @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The original 47/7s had finished work with Scotrail and around this time had been claimed by NSE for the West of England services. They had larger fuel tanks than normal 47's so could match the class 50 diagrams on the WoE. 47 706 stayed in these colours (although the name was removed) until the end of loco working on the Exeter's unlike some of it's classmates that had NSE colours applied (a couple had parcels livery 703/712/717 and these stayed red until they left NSE as well).
