Thanks buddy! It seems impossible to me to turn a piece of raw material into a work of art like they were capable of doing… It was probably as easy as us tying our shoes to them, given that they probably learned that skill at a very early age. Just as sweet the second tine around!!! Do you not hunt fields or construction sites? It seems like you only hunt the river. Congrats on last year and good luck in the next!
I do hunt them. The no till has slowly killed most of the field spots. Most of the stuff at construction sites seems to usually be broken, if the scads of other people hunting construction sites haven’t already found it. I’ve just slowly been pushed out to where I mainly find artifacts in places most people can’t get to. I don’t mind being that guy knee deep in mud, digging through poison ivy vines and sticker bushes, as long as I’m finding artifacts! Haha

How many years have you been searching the banks of Tennessee rivers? Virtually any one of those would be the find of a lifetime for most. Have you ever put together all of your finds in one photo or video collection?
Not too long relatively speaking.. 14 years or so. But that year was an exceptionally good one for me! That video was just a compilation of the first few months from that year. I never got around to the part 2… or 3 of that year! But no, I’ve never shared my whole collection. I’ve thought about creating a video showing some of my finds from my pre video days, or when my recording was cringeworthy at best! Haha But I’ve just never gotten around to it. @@Points365 It boggles the mind to think of even better ones in your collection perhaps that are unseen yet. You have undoubtedly had the common feeling among collectors when you find one that you are the first person in several thousand years to hold it in your hands. The curiosity of how it came to be lost. The knowledge that every single one that was made is still out there unless already found and in a collection. The curiosity as to what their lives were like. The strong feeling of the point is your connection with ancient history. The realization that the ones you have found were made over a period of several thousand years and yet there were amazingly talented flintknappers making them on a regular basis as a tool required for survival. It was a survival skill clearly passed down. The less finely made ones were certainly functional, but the pride in turning out a perfect piece resulted in some of those you found. I assume you find a fair number of broken ones too. I thought I had a decent collection of points I found during a couple of years I spent in Texas. It does not compare to your collection, of course, nor even to some magnificent Texas collections. I am 78 and have pondered for some time what will become of my collection. Have you had those thoughts? For a while, I thought I would donate them to a museum or university until I learned that they seldom display them. They usually end up in a box in a sub-basement somewhere, never to be seen again. That seems like such a waste.
It is a feeling that leaves you in awe when holding something that’s been lost for so long. The changes that have happened to the landscape, and the world since that artifact was last handled. Honestly, it makes you realize how small you are in the grand scheme of things. But leaves you with an appreciation for what we have now, and what they were able to survive back then. Most people probably don’t look so much into artifacts as they find / handle them though. It’s interesting to look at some of the artifacts admiring the quality, and even the lack of quality in some. I wonder why would they create an artifact that’s just good enough to get the job done? Was it made in haste? Were they young, or afflicted somehow impeding their ability? Or just plain lazy?! Haha There’s so much to look into when admiring artifacts. The artifacts found in TX are some unusually neat looking artifacts for sure! Or they at least look that way to a TN boy for sure, as mine might be unusual looking to a Texan. As far as where artifacts are passed on to.. I have for sure wondered that on many occasions. Would my passing of artifacts on to an obvious heir be a burden to them? Would they want to deal with 100’s of artifacts that they may or may not appreciate? As many consider, museums would surely be an obvious choice right? Hah! I’ve seen the burying of artifacts in museums to the point I’d never consider it. The TN state museum used to have one of the finest collections of native artifacts around. After spending millions on a new, bigger facility, their collection of native artifacts displayed went from what looked like close to 1,000 in the old museum to 10 in the new. Yes 10! They basically pass right over native history and dedicate the majority of the facility to woke history topics. I’ll spare my commentary on that! Haha
Congratulations!! Amazing finds as always! I love them all! Was the snapped base made of petrified wood? And the stem with notches was beautiful. Take care and happy hunting.
Thanks as always! As far as the snapped base piece… I’m not too knowledgeable on my materials, but did find that particular piece to be made of unusually interesting material. There were a few people who mentioned it possibly being petrified wood on the original video. Whatever it’s made of I sure wish I found more of it! Haha
Thanks as always buddy! So far I’ve had a pretty solid start to 2022. If I only have half the luck I had last year I’d still consider myself a lucky individual!
Beautiful finds man! Tearing it up every time! Look forward to the next one. The pooch sure does seem to enjoy the waterway adventures with you. Keep on finding!
I don’t always tear it up! It’s been slow here lately… I barely managed to find enough in January to piece together a decent video that will be out this Thursday. Thanks as always buddy!
Thanks man! Im thinking it was an adze. One end of it is sharp, and the other end of it has the rind on it. Like only the one end was meant to be used.
Absolute stingers again!!! So many at the waters edge or in the water!!! Got to be 10s of thousands in that river!!! Curious, how many do you find per trip? How do you carry them? And how many did you save in 2021?? Thanks
The majority of what I find tends to be relatively close to the waters edge. That’s where the erosion is… which is what’s constantly at work uncovering them! You know I’ve thought plenty of times about diving down and looking underwater!! That +\- 1” of visibility is a little daunting though! As far as how many per trip varies greatly. Sometimes I’ll go 10 hours and come home completely empty handed. Sometimes I’ll be out a few hours and come home with 8 or more complete artifacts. As far as broken artifacts… I typically find at least 2-4 and at times up to 20+ per trip. I have boxes of broken artifacts! I wish I knew what I could do with all of them. As far as the number of saves in 2021. Unbroken projectiles, tools, and all I would guesstimate around 400. Many of my finds don’t make it to video. A video full of hammer stones, scrapers, and lesser quality points don’t make for the same quality viewing people are used to from me! I don’t have much free time to create more videos, so I have to be picky with my content. As far as how I carry the artifacts… I typically have some sort of a pack with me. I will wrap my fragile artifacts in cloth and secure them in a zippered pocket. So far I’ve never had any casualties during transport!
@@Points365 thanks I just like to know how the successful guys are doing it! I don’t think I own 400 flakes! Lol but I did find a site in October so I’m going start digging her when she unthaws this year
Man, digging is hard work! You definitely earn your artifacts finding them that way! Better pick you up a wiggle pick. Nothing like sinking a shovel into the dirt and hearing the sound of breaking flint!😰
@@Points365 on it.. being gentle…. I have no choice 1500 feet above the river if I want them I got a dig for em it’s a total fluke that I even found this site but the views insane! They could’ve seen people coming for a mile and a half each way! I’m sure they rolled rocks over the hills to let their buddies down on the river know that people are coming! Lol
I don’t! The river is right in my backyard so I get to take it in, in all it’s glory as it rises and sets each day. I try to stop and take it in as much as possible!
The two tone is my fav. Do you ever wonder how the points got to be where you found them. Were they lost doing use, discarded, or what. And how far Mother Nature has moved them. My lab and I would love doing this. I doubt you get out of the house without your dog.
I wonder all the time how the artifacts I find ended up where they were found. So many of the perfect pieces I find, I imagine someone hurling a dart through the forest, losing it as it misses its mark, getting buried in thick vegetation! Haha There’s no telling the stories these artifacts could tell though!
Haha not overloaded yet! But sorry man, I’m just a collector and hunter. I’ve never bought or sold any. Thanks for checking out the video though and hope you enjoyed!

Haha
Salut,
What a lineup! Awesome year for you.... I wish the upcoming year to be even better.... Cheers and Blessings!
Thanks as always buddy!
nice finds , was the second some kind of chisel ?
Lol
Congrats on a great year! How do you tear yourself away from that gorgeous sunrise over the river?
Overloaded?
By any chance do you have any for sale?
Haha not overloaded yet! But sorry man, I’m just a collector and hunter. I’ve never bought or sold any. Thanks for checking out the video though and hope you enjoyed!
Oh how I would like to find a double notch. 0/400
Whew… man that’s only the 2nd one I have! Found that one laying right in the middle of a mass of poison Ivy vines. I didn’t think twice about diving head first into the middle of em to recover that piece! Haha I keep going back looking for more… so far nada!
Furst 👍☮️
Yeaheahhhh! You were on it man! Haha Thanks for coming back to check it out buddy!
@@Points365 I've seen them all but a second look is just as killer. Awesome finds brother. 👍☮️
I figured if I can watch these videos of my finds a dozen times, y’all might like to see it twice! Haha
@@Points365 Nothing but the trusution
@@Points365 I forgot to tell you about a video you should check out. Odyssey Ancient History Documentaries. About a week ago they uploaded a vid about finding Atal-Atal darts coming out of the ice sheet in the Yukon. Some of them still have the binding and remnants of feathers. They also go to Europe and find intact arrows coming out of the ice. If you haven't seen it you should it's amazing and that channel has some killer vids. Laters brother. 👍☮️👣
I feel like I need a cigarette after watching this artifact porn! I'd like to see your collection bro! East Tennessee here
Haha oh man that’s too funny! I made the part 1. But was so busy hunting in my free time I never got around to making a part 2 and 3! But thanks man, I appreciate you coming back to check out some of my finds. I haven’t hunted east TN much.. I haven’t had much luck past the Cumberland plateau. Maybe it’s just not my arena, so the artifacts only reveal themselves to the locals! Haha
@Points365 lol idk brother but your definitely in a fantastic area for sure! Can't wait to see more of your finds! I'd shit and fall over backwards finding the points that your picking up!👍
Jesus loves you
Thanks buddy, he loves all!
