2:57 The name "Genocide City" was an error, it's supposed to be "Cyber City" Zone and part of the localization team didn't have a complete grasp of English and thought Genocide City "sounded dangerous" and cool. It was meant to be a one-act zone which would have been unusual but they repurposed the layout of the zone for Act 3 of Metropolis Zone. Of course, they replaced the cyberpunk look with an industrial one and one or two "gimmicks" might have been altered or cut. While the graphics originally intended for Cyber City went unused in Sonic 2, they were used in Sonic Spinball in the stage "The Machine." More information can be found on Sonic Retro including a piece of concept art for the stage.
I mean, Genocide City is pretty fuckin' dangerous wouldn't want to go there late at night with my Wii U just to be mugged and someone to realise that I unironically own a Wii U laugh, shoot me a few times and unload a clip of a 9 mm into my head for good measure

I saw the game gear version as well, but the game is complete garbage.
(4:20) The squished horizontal split in 2-player mode does work well with 3D TVs, if you have glasses where one sees one picture and the other sees the other picture. Then you have two players having the full screen each, on one TV, one console.
that's not something I would have thought to do, but cool.

My educated ears that know that the actual name of the scrapped desert level was Sand Shower Zone are annoyed, but to be fair, we didn’t know for certain if it was at this point in time.
Dust Hill Zone turned out to be a prototype name for Mystic Cave Zone.

Dust hill is a desert hill

Hey, Scott, quick word of warning! If you still have that iPod Nano with Sonic 1 on it (mentioned at 11:50), you may want to check to see if the display is still intact. I know that may sound weird, but as iPod Nanos age, the rechargeable batteries inside them (located right behind the display) can start to expand, forming a black spot on the inside of the screen and eventually becoming a fire hazard. Just thought I’d give you a heads up.

My entire experience with Oil Ocean zone when I was little was basically trying to jump on the green platorm things that go up, timing it wrong and jumping in the fire thing, and then getting crushed.
I love how Scott didn't reupload the video because he didn't want vulgar words in his video. He reuploaded it for consistency. Honestly I would've done the same.

We don’t discredit him because he dislikes a game we do; we discredit him because of the reason he dislikes these games.
Which is, because he’s not very good at them.
Broshi Egoraptor makes the occasional comment of annoyance at something and a few diatribes against the Sonic franchise which he genuinely doesn't like but I think you're grossly over-exaggerating here. He's not a critic and he doesn't act like one either, he just makes fleeting comments when he gets annoyed at games sometimes. He's a let's player and doesn't really overstep his boundaries or step on the soapbox more than any other person would and pretty much everyone who watches his content regularly knows not to take him seriously pretty much *at all*. Like if you want to criticise one of IGN's critics for putting out a bad review then go ahead but I think you have to have pretty thin skin to actually care what a guy literally just playing games on a couch with his best bud thinks. I'm not going to suck his dick the entire time here, like I understand the criticisms people have against him and I even agree with some of time, trust me even the most devoted game grumps fan have *a lot* of ire to take up with Egoraptor. I can't help but feel that you've only heard of him down the grapevine and actually haven't had a good look at him from a non-biased perspective. It's important to note that his persona is a bit exaggerated which is pretty obvious when you watch things like "ten minute power hour" for instance, he's admitted to this multiple times before and whilst I'm not going to be silly and say that it invalidates any criticism against him it's worth considering when you listen to him say what he does. Just to show you the other side of the coin I do recommend you watch at least one of his sequelitis videos where he does some quite good *genuine and serious* critique of video game sequels with quite a bit less exaggeration in his personality. It's not academic level or anything and he's not trying to make some sort of definitive guide for game developers or whatever, it's just his own opinion done up in a fun manner without the soapbox stepping he does on game grumps that shows a better side to him.

I like Oil Ocean Zone for two things in particular: 1. The music rocks this was Shantae's prequel
2. In the debug mode going inside a certain block that propels you through cannon but then cancelling it mid-way will make sonic op, he's faster and jumps higher everything is exaggerated. And you can even multiply that effect it's awesome

Alot of people i think knew sonic 2 more than 1...thats probably the mostly widlely played and remembered one. Unless you got 1 with the system, youd be hard. pressed to find it..i had to get it on a sega genesis cartridge compilation of sonic 1 2 and mean bean machine.
9:17 so the reason why the spikes are at the top of the spinning gear section in metropolis zone is used to tell the player that this is dangerous and that if you keep on going up you'll die because normally you'll get crushed if you keep on going up but a player might not know that, but the player and most definitely knows that if they hit Spikes they die and then they know for the next time not to go all the way up

Sonic 2 is my favorite game in the Sonic franchise. My favorite zones are Emerald Hill, Casino Night, Chemical Plant, Wing Fortress, and Metropolis in that order.

I like the spikes above the screw. It teaches you if you keep going on that screw, you die. It's like "Woah there, Buddy! Time to get off!" They're both just as dangerous, but the spikes you can see coming. You KNOW they're to be avoided.

4 years later Scott gets his wish because Sonic Origins uses the Whitehead versions of 1, 2, and CD.
At 8:27 that pit in the remastered version of Sonic 2 on mobile is a pit that allows the player to fall into the legend Hidden Palace ( -P.S. also in the mobile version in Hilltop Zone Act 1 there is a secret Knuckles path which is really in my opinion just a secret path ‘cause it can be also accessed with Tails & Sonic + Tails also why did I go off topic for no reason).
