    For so many that can't get on the trail and experience this hike, your video shines the light on on how beautiful the highest elevation of Texas really is. To those of us who now realize we can pack up the vehicle and get to it, thanks man.

      Your comment nailed it for me, I'm 61 years old & only able to be on my feet for one hour a day because of health reasons. These videos are so meaningful to me, I love scenic drives but these videos are amazing.

      We carried about 2.5 quarts each but temps were only in the 50s max

    It’s amazing for sure. Camped on the South Rim at SR4 to watch the sunset last fall. It was a stunning experience. Thanks for sharing!

    Now you’ve spoiled the secret! The south rim is better in every way. A person used to be able to hike the rim and see no one or almost no one. But it is still not crowded and certainly less crowded than Emory.

    I camped on the South rim. It is amazing. You're right it does beat the guadalupe mountains

    I made this same exact hike about 3 months ago. Just in the opposite direction. Wanted a lesser decent to save my knees some aching but an absolutely stunning hike. Your video does an exceptional job at portraying what the hike is like for people that haven’t been. Love it

    Thank you so much for your superb video. It is fund to watch and a perfect preperation for going on that hike.
    Does somebody know if there are any toiletts on that trail? I know the toilett, that used to be at and serve the campgrounds on the south rimm has burned down and is no longer there. I thought there might be a toilett at the junktion of the south rim trail to the other trails, but I cannot find any information on that. A hint would be welcome 🙂

    Thanks for taking us along! We recently climbed Guadalupe Peak (8700 feet) and have climbed Emory Peak and Lost Mine trails at Big Bend. But I agree with you that the views on the rim trails exceed Guadalupe Peak. We love staying at the Chisos Mountains Lodge but the last time we were there I had a very close nighttime encounter with a large male cougar. We have seen black bears often as well.

    We did not have time to do Emory or the South Rim but we did do the Lost Mine-on our recent visit. It was perhaps the best designed trail of this kind we have ever hiked. Here, the views of the vistas are spectacular. Lost Mine is a relatively friendly 5 mile trip, up and back, and the grade is not a significant challenge...1100 feet elevation change.

    • @paulm749
      @paulm749 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Could not agree more. The Lost Mine Trail is an absolute gem. The difficulty isn't too great for anyone who's reasonably healthy, and the rewards provided by the views along the way and at the end are spectacular.

    Were those bluejays, sir? I love my birds. I have established feeding and watering areas behind our motorcycle shop where so many kinds of birds, including a hawk, frequent. I also provide for bunnies, squirrels, a skunk, and opossums. I do what I can to help them out, and my regulars feel like friends. I give some of them names. Twice, my partner Gary has had the strength to give small birds a quick release from injuries that were so bad it allowed me to walk up and pick them up with a thin little dog blankie.

    Excellent. We did Emory Peak (to the very top) in March 2021 and loved it. We were already planning to do this hike in February or March. We usually fly into El Paso but I hear the influx of illegals, refugees, migrants, whatever have really clogged the airport. Any alternate suggestions? Also how long did it take you to do this one? Thanks.

      I typically drive to the Seminole Canyon area and do a hike there. I then drive to Big Bend to break up the drive.
