    This is one of my favorite films of all time. It excels on every possible level: Directing, cinematography, editing, writing, acting, production design, costumes, all of it.
    They intentionally cast different actors to play Zodiac in every scene that we see him, both to throw the viewers off, and because the killer's identity was never proven.
    For the taxi scene, they shot one scene from within the actual apartment where the witnesses lived at the time. But they had to use extensive VFX for the exterior scenes to make the block look like it did in the 1970s.

    Zodiac is the scariest non-horror film I’ve ever seen. It’s been awhile since I last watched it so I’m eager to check out the full length reaction when I have enough time.

    Charles Fleischer, who played Bob Vaughn, the odd movie theater guy with a basement, was also the voice of Roger Rabbit.

    May well be my favorite David Fincher movie. I'm fascinated by true crime anyhow, but the atmosphere of this movie, something about it I could just watch it anytime. The jump in the middle of the movie to where Gyllenhaal becomes the main lead is a little jarring though.

    Literally just read this today about Mark Ruffalo…
    Mark Ruffalo says the studio told his agent to take the offer for ‘ZODIAC’ because “we don’t even want him.”
    “We don’t give a shit about Mark Ruffalo. We don’t even want him in this, so you’re going to take what we’re offering you or forget it”
    Crazy!! He was marvelous in this.

    You need to get the DVD or Blu-ray of “Zodiac”, it’s a 2 disc set, and the 2nd disc is documentaries and extras that are just as excellent as the movie. The documentary “I Am The Zodiac” that’s on the 2nd disc is extremely disturbing.

    1. This movie was not only RDJ's big comeback to serious acting after his years of drug and legal issues, but it was what made Marvel want to cast him as Iron Man.
    2. Those phones calls Armstrong had with the other police departments were pretty accurate to who disjointed and very non-communitive the investigation was between the different PD's. One of the many reasons Zodiac was probably never caught.
    3. By modern standards, Zodiac would come across as an incel lashing out, but killing the cabbie broke that pattern.
    4. A recently deciphered Zodiac letter said, "That was not me on the TV show." Very eerie!
    5. Are there really not many basements in California, at least back in the 60s?
    6. Allen's trailer was really in a state of clutter when the cops searched it. Not sure if the squirrels are true, though, lol.
    7. I think the real Bob Vaughn was known to be a cheery and merry guy compared to his movie counterpart, and the footsteps upstairs were his wife.
    8. Graysmith's obsessions with Zodiac did ruin his second marriage.
    9. The real Graysmith really did surveil Allen when he was working at an Ace Hardware, but he didn't actually confront him head on, and he even brought his kids with him when he did it.
    10. The real Megeau did identify Allen from a lineup, but the cops didn't take it as seriously as they seemed to here because it was super dark when he was shot, and the Zodiac had the flashlight-gun pointed at him the whole time, making unlikely they he got a real look at Zodiac's face.
    11. The real Paul Avery and Robert Graysmith weren't friends. They worked at the Chronicle during the Zodiac era, but only met until Graysmith was researching his book, which Avery did not like.
    12. You NEED to watch Social Network and Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

  • @georgeizcazu152

    You should do the classic film, Chinatown. It wasn't, of course, directed by Fincher but he did do the commentary track for it (with its screenwriter, Robert Towne). Fincher clearly loves the film and his and Towne's commentary on it is interesting and enjoyable.

    They based the Riddler from The Batman on this killer and it was a really smart idea, as the Zodiac killer also used riddles/cyphers.

    It's so interesting that the obsession with solving the case seems to pass from person to person. From RDJ to Ruffalo to Maguire. They're all invested from the beginning but it's almost as if the unhinged obsession of one person breaks them and the next person feels obligated to take over. The knowledge that no one is working on the case compels them to take up the mantle.

    they used three different actors to play the zodiac to emphasis the mystery of not knowing who the actual zodiac was. it was most likely Arthur Leigh Allan but we will never know because he died before they could bring him in.

    Every time we see or hear the Zodiac it’s a different actor. Fincher did that to add to the uncertainty since the killer was never caught.

    As a true crime fan, reality is always scarier and more haunting than fiction. Imagining people going through this level of evil is more terrifying than any horror movie. If Zodiac is even alive(many people in the true crime community don't think it's Allen) hopefully he's caught one day. DNA technology keeps advancing, if he's ever identified, it's going to be through forensics. I don't think anyone will be coming forward at this point.

    • @edo27
      @edo27 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      why don't ppl in the true crime community think it's Allen? and who do they think are the main suspects?

    • @ezioauditore4061
      @ezioauditore4061 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@edo27 The DNA didn't match him, the fingerprints didn't match, the handwriting didn't match, the composite sketches didn't resemble him, the ballistics didn't match. That doesn't mean he's definitely not the guy, many don't think it's him, but there are some in the community who still believe it's Allen. There are claims Allen didn't do the stamps for the letters himself because the glue made him sick, but no one knows if it was him, that he didn't lick the stamps with the Zodiac letters. So if he didn't and it was him, that could explain the DNA not matching, but DNA technology didn't even exist back then so he wouldn't have known to try and hide it, and I find it hard to believe he got another person to lick his stamps and envelopes on all his letters. The Zodiac Killer sent so many. Way more than the movie shows. You can find them all online if you google it. Forensic and physical evidence solves cases and until some type of evidence directly ties Allen to the murders, I think the focus needs to be elsewhere.
      Some popular suspects include Richard Gaikowski, Ross Sullivan, Jack Tarrance, Lawrence Kane. You can google those names and read about them. Me personally, I think it's most likely not one of the popular suspects. There are hundreds of millions of people in the US(at the times of the murders the US population at the time was still over 200 million) and California had millions of people. The odds of it being one of six or seven-ish people are very slim. Like happened with the Golden State Killer case, there were some popular suspects and it ended up being someone no one ever heard of and I'd put my money that it's the case here.

    • @Mike-rk8px
      @Mike-rk8px 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If the Zodiac killer was, let’s say, 30 years old in 1969 he would be 84 now. Obviously someone who could do the horrific things he did would’ve been a very unhappy and unstable person, probably had an alcohol or drug problem to deal with what was in their mind. I really can’t imagine that this person is still alive, and if they are, they’re not in good shape. This person also had an obvious problem dealing with people, and probably got into a lot of bad fights, so there’s also the possibility that someone could’ve killed him.

    Even though it's brutal, it's very engaging with its plot and characters. Top tier horror and the best this year. Definitely topped Talk to Me. It has subtitles though, but you don't really notice you're reading because of how engaging it is.

      Late in the movie the kid is reading about a case in Tahoe.
