“Zodiac” is one of those movies that you really need to buy on DVD or Blu-Ray because there are hours of bonus material on an additional disc. The bonus material is just as fascinating as the movie.
The freeway shot near the open in San Francisco is the former Embarcadero freeway. This was to be I-480 and would have linked I-80 to US-101 near the Golden Gate Bridge. Only the first mile or so got built along the waterfront. Everyone hated it because it blocked the view from downtown to the ferry building, the bay and the beautiful coastline. Heavily damaged in the ‘89 quake it was eventually torn down. Recreated in CGI for this film.
'Copycat' from 1995 starring Sigourney Weaver is an underrated serial killer movie IMO. There's also a movie called 'The Pledge' (2001) starring Jack Nicholson about Nicholson who's a retired FBI agent trying to find a child killer. It's slow moving for the most part, but the ending is extremely twisted and messed up lol.
@@joshuayeager3686 For sure. Harry Connick Jr. was also brilliant in his role. One would never think that he's a pianist/jazz singer if they didn't know it.
Brian Cox's character, Melvin Belli, was in the Star Trek: TOS episode "And the Children Shall lead" as the evil alien Gorgon, his son Caesar Belli was in the episode aussi as one of the titular children.
Ha ha I live in Texas, old Ted is our (un)esteemed Senator. I heard that about him being the Zodiac, wouldn't that be a hoot? Yeah, back in the day, when newspapers (morning and afternoon!) and snail mail were "a thing." John Carroll Lynch appears as "Marge's" husband in Fargo, as well as starring in several seasons of American Horror Story. Good reaction vid!
Great film with a great soundtrack. Donovan, Carlos Santana and Sly & The Family Stone are as much part of the cast as Downey, Gyllenhaal, Ruffalo et al. Being an SF bay area native the film reminds me what an insane time the 70s was in the region- the Charles Manson Family's loose connection to SF in advance of the Tate/LaBianca slayings. The Zodiac. The Zebra murders. The SLA and kidnapping of Patty Hearst and associated mayhem. The Moscone/Milk double assassination. Peoples Temple and Jonestown. What ill juju gripped the community in those days.
Great reaction and review of this fine film. I love storytelling type movies where you need to pay attention to the details to really be able to follow along with the facts of the case. It gives you a sense of unease as to whether Arthur Leigh Allen was positively, undoubtedly, the killer. It wouldn’t be until a few years later that the The Night Stalker took his place as the mass murderer that consumed law enforcement.
If anyone loved this I'd definitely recommend "the hunt for a killer" a Swedish show with one season that spans multiple years, very similar in presentation and themes and made excellently, just underrated because it's in swedish.
This movie is good but some of the "facts" in this movie weren't accurate at all, eg the "painting party" had no evidence that it even happened. Paul Avery and Robert Graysmith never actually met each other until after they left the Chronicle. Paul Avery didn't decline due to the threat, if anything he didn't care too much about it. He wasn't obsessed with Zodiac like in the movie. Look up Fact vs Fincher for more details on the truth of this movie. Fun facts to consider. Paul Avery and Arthur Leigh Allens accuser Don Cheney went to Junior High School together. Some people who knew and were close to Arthur Leigh Allen refused to be interviewed for the movie because they don't believe he was Zodiac. Regarding Don Cheney, I suggest looking at some of the videos on TH-cam that shed light on him. You'd be amazed at how suspicious he actually is.
Basement scene was one of the most tense moments in a movie I’ve seen in a long time.
I've seen the film several times and I still get tense every time.
Dirty Harry the character was actually based on Dave Toschi, the cop that Mark Ruffalo plays, and the villain was based on the Zodiac

RDJ is pretty funny in the blu ray commentary too.

“Copycat” definitely deserves more attention

@randywhite3947 Typo, thanks.
Strangely, one of the most re watchable movies ever.

I grew up in the 70’s and I still remember playing pong on my family’s little black and white tv. God I’m old. 😂
Another great choice from Ollie, A few suggestions for you The Bone Collector from 1999, Seven from 1995, One Hour Photo from 2002, Deja Vu from 2006.
Such an underrated movie!
Maybe "The Howling" with Dee Wallace could be next? Or "The Conjuring"?

Are there any good films about Jonestown? A Fincher-directed movie about that would be brilliant!
@tbone35453 Probably the best is a TV production called Guyana Tragedy: The story of Jim Jones starring Powers Booth of Sin City fame (and many more)
@@Al_NERi Thank you. I'll check it out
My favorite serial killer case too and zodiac killer is my favorite serial killer....❤
Hate to burst your Canadian bubble, but I think the Ontario here is the city in California

I’m a big fan! I love your reviews. Check on the film Class of 1999 with Malcolm McDowell
Hey RonnyPollyOldies it's past your bedtime your momma should tuck you in!
lol your thumbnail looks like you are keeping your cheeks from falilng
"This is the Zodiac speaking" ...🕶🩸
Thank you, Oliver! ⛎ Indeed, it's fascinating to ponder serial killers... combined with Mr. Fincher's directorial prowess... cinematic bliss.
