very nice lecture sir, you have covered almost all utmost important points with respect to HS that can be asked in MCQs. sir here i want to share one thing that i encountered this year when i appeared for a indian pgmee in the month of may. it was with respect to HS and it was with regarding screening test for HS. "Flow cytometric analysis of eosin-5-maleimide (EMA)-labeled red blood cells (RBCs) has been used as a screening test for the diagnosis of patients with hereditary spherocytosis (HS)". i thank you for the lecture and hope the little knowledge i shared will be helpful to all pg aspirants.
I have hereditary spherocytosis, my doctor said there is no cure but an everyday medication of Folic Acid will keep me alive. Removing of spleen won’t be necessary, unless my health lifestyle Is unhealthy or abusive, and also removing my spleen won’t change my blood into normal. So no cure at all I would say.
@@johnandrewmurillo I have HS and have never been told to take folic acid. I'm fit n healthy have had never had any health complications because of the removal of the spleen.
me too. spleen and gallbladder taken out at 7 years old and ended up in hospital with pneumonia a few months after surgery due to terrible immune system and have spells because of the blood disorder....of course no body believes me because nobody knows about this disease. even doctors in offices. Just the expensive hemotologists
KemLove123 ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ so do I and half of my family. massive numbers of surgical procedures in my family and high retic counts. be,as well as possible fellow traveler

Removal of spleen
Anna Herrera The spenectomy is a way to reduce the hemolysis ( because the spleen is the place where the spherocytes become more fragile )
