"I'm gonna try John Ayre 😏" Loved that lol
Oh, I am so excited for this readathon! The original Phantom can be a bit of a shock when the musical is your starting point, but it's wonderful. So excited to hear your thoughts once you've read it!
@@Wyntremaiden I can’t wait for the radiation to start!!!! And I’m definitely interested in how The Phantom book will play out now that I know it’s considered horror
@@mrs.pizzareads I will never tire of the musical - it was a huge part of my romantic awakening as a teen - but the book Phantom has my whole heart. He's my problematic fave. 😁 It did take a while for me to warm up to him because he was so unlike I expected him to be, but once I did, I was caught for good.
I really enjoyed the approach you took to this video. What a great idea to pair classics with some modern takes! Although you did 100% ruin my TBR. 😂
@@AiniaReads thanks for the feedback, sorry about your TBR 😂
I've been reading Jane Eyre slow and steady for many months. I've seen many of the film and TV adaptations, and loved picturing different Janes, Mr. Rochesters, and Adeles in my mind's eye as I was reading. I'm halfway through now. I did like Dracula a lot (Phantom of the Opera too); I read A Dowry of Blood and loved it so much. I have not read Carmilla yet -- I may or may not read it this year. I still haven't cracked upon my copy of Frankenstein. I adore Winona Ryder too.
@@Sthemingway I actually have never watched any of the Jane Eyre films. Do you have a favorite?
@@mrs.pizzareads Taken from a couple journal entries I wrote over the summer:
"Ruth Wilson's portrayal of Jane Eyre makes it clear that she's fond of Mr. Rochester, played by Toby Stephens. He's broody enough, but not as gruff as Ciaran Hinds' Mr. Rochester. Ruth Wilson and Samantha Morton are my fave Jane Eyres. Ruth Wilson's Jane Eyre is so crushed in that scene where the reader learns the truth about someone from Mr. Rochester's past. It's such a heartbreaking performance. It's also more subdued than Mia Wasikowska's reaction.
So the scene in the book where Jane tells Mr. Rochester that she must go back to Gateshead b/c an ailing Mrs. Reed is asking for her -- it's more like a stage play. The tone is different compared to the TV and movie adaptations.
I've seen the following in order of their release; the ones with asterisks are my faves:
Joan Fontaine/Orson Welles (Margaret O'Brien is an adorable Adele) - 1943
Charlotte Gainsbourg/William Hurt -- 1996
Samantha Morton/Ciaran Hinds -- 1997*
Ruth Wilson/Toby Stephens -- 2006*
Mia Wasikowska/Michael Fassbender -- 2011*
@@SthemingwayI love this! You’re the best!!!
@@mrs.pizzareads ❤
Also you better pet that dawg 😂
@@DaltonByDay don’t let her fool you, I spend 99.9% of my day lavishing Winnie with attention 😂
@mrs.pizzareads That's how my pets are too, always acting pitiful lol
There is an unofficial sequel to Dracula written by one Dacre Stoker called Dracula The Un-dead which flips it all upside down and slays some sacred cows for a romping good shocker.
On a classic horror note: If you have not read the original Frankenstein I say go for it. I'ts a surprisingly good and fast read. I own an illustrated version.
@@Montie-Adkins I’m always game for a Dracula book! Added to the humongous TBR 😂
I actually have read Frankenstein (I can’t believe I forgot to add it to the list 🙄)but haven’t found any retelling/reimaginings that I LOVE, some that I like but nothing that rocks my world. I’m still on the hunt tho.
@@mrs.pizzareads What I was surprised with on Frankenstein was that the dumb monster was a Hollywood invention where in the book he is intelligent and seemingly cultured. The tv show Penny Dreadful was closer to the original material.
Third comment but: not my typical type of content but you're entertaining and know how to keep attention! Hope to see you grow!
@@DaltonByDay thank you 😊
How do you call out Winnona' Ryde's accent in that film when Keanu Reeves's infamous attempt at a English accent is in the same film??????? Trust me his is the one everybody in the UK is horrified by 🤣
Thanks for some interesting book recommendations
@@kittling5427 😂 honestly I think I blocked it out, his accent is so bad that it comes back around to entertaining.
@@mrs.pizzareads 😂Very true, and very understandable
