I absolutely love the way you talk about books, you use language in a really beautiful way! My fave books I read this month were The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson and Notes from Underground by Fyodor Dostoevsky.
In comparison to your mammoth reads, my recommendation might feel minuscule, but my favorite read of the month was Zadie Smith’s Intimations. This is a collection of six or so essays written at the beginning of the pandemic from Zadie’s perspective as she grapples with the drastically shifting tides. It lived up to its namesake, it was intimate and lovely and welcoming and reflective; I didn’t think I had any interest in reading about the pandemic (this may be the only exception), but her masterful use of language made me feel understood in a way I haven’t by many books recently. I would certainly recommend to anyone!
Just finished the Bloody Chamber, a superb collection. The first story achieved more gothic horror in 40+ pages than Mexican Gothic achieved in over 300 pages. Totally agree about the assessment. This collection might only be just over 140 pages but the stories are so rich and descriptive.
15:00 - spoonfeeding myself the words of an author is EXACTLY what I felt when i finished the short story collection by Carmen Maria Machado - I wanted to eat her words that felt like cake with all the layers and layers of meaning and beauty....cant believe i found someone else that also felt eating words as a genuine craving

When I am reading something like poetry or older English, I love that moment, a few pages in or a few paragraphs in, when I've found the flow of the words. I'm no longer struggling, or rereading paragraphs or sentences trying to find the right rhythm. Instead I'm laughing and nodding my head and not thinking about anything but the story. I enjoyed quite a few of the books I read in October but I'll have to go with Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson as my favorite, since I set aside the rest of my reading stack and immediately checked the other two books in the trilogy out of the library. Just finished the last book and now I'm sad because I'm gonna miss the characters.

@@whistletoe Circe by Madeline Miller , absolutely loved every single page of it . I love complex female characters and Circe is cunning and complex ,so I absolutely loved the book .
In amongst the big books, have you been able to slip in some short story reading from your Borges book?
