    Philip Uncle ( considering your age ) is more enthusiastic and committed to doubling of line than the Railway themselves . Hope you are a Civil Engineer whose talent and spirit sadly couldn't be utilised for the welfare of our country ( what I have read from some of your comment itself). All the best uncle . Also be careful while taking such videos. Your safety is more important.

    Finally the date got announced. Crs inspection on 23rd May and commissioning on May 28th

    Hope the track laying and linking works will be over in 2-3 weeks time....

      Mobile cameras and it’s lenses have limited capability due to its tiny lenses, small area of coverage and too tiny sensors, lack of zooming capability. I prefer my old mobile while recording, for the fear of it slipping off my hands. Never attempted my iPhone 13 pro due to fear only, however all these have limited capability in comparison to DSLR, or even more magnificent Mirrorless. Though I am a professional Nikon (D700) user, I find it too heavy to carry around with even heavier lenses in retired life.

    Sir I know you are busy like us and I have immense respect for you for showing us updates related to track doubling works and sharing your reviews but as the doubling works are coming to completion I can't control my excitement. Wish I could have been in Kottayam to see fhe doubling works. When can we expect next update from you?? 🙏

      Hopefully by the end of the month, when I think almost all tracks will be in place. Today I drove to Thiruvalla, however have a booking on 1st May to travel by train.

    As many as seven platforms will be set up at the Kottayam railway station, including a 327-m platform for MEMU trains to Ernakulam and another for goods trains.

    While the maximum constructed train speed of the section will be 110 km per hour, the department expects the CRS to approve a maximum operational speed of up to 90 km per hour. “The sectional speed could be raised at a later stage based on the annual track report by the CRS and by evaluating the weather conditions,” an official told The Hindu

    Ideally Railway should commission Ettumanoor - Kottayam first, as that section is almost over compared to work pending at Tunnel area.

      Hopefully it might happen so. But Retaining walls at tunnel area too would finish by end of April

      @@mar092009 All these works are routine for these professionals. Heard that third week of May, Commissioner of Railway Safety’s Inspection is scheduled and imminent commissioning will follow, if so June 1st onwards travel will be on double electrified line

      By 20th April or so track laying between Ettumanoor and Kottayam looks likely to be completed, except for track linking north of Kottayam station. For rail enthusiasts like me it is a dream of more than three decades coming to reality.

    So if this is the status of doubling as of mid April, the second line can be expected to be commissioned by early 2023

      By June certainly the second line will be commissioned, subject to Commissioner of Railway Safety’s imminent inspection.

    2019 മാർച്ചിൽ ആണ് കുറുപ്പന്തറ ഏറ്റുമാനൂർ ലൈൻ കമ്മിഷൻ ചെയ്തത്. 2019 ഡിസംബറിൽ ആണ് സ്പെഷ്യൽ ഓഫിസറെ വെച്ച് കേരള സര്ക്കാര് സ്ഥലം ഏറ്റെടുത്ത് കൊടുത്തത്. 2 കൊല്ലം കൊണ്ട് പണി തീർത്തത് നല്ല കാര്യം തന്നെ.

    Only 1 to 1.5km track laying and electrification between kottayam and kumaranalloor is pending.... so should be complete in a weeks time... hope the track linking will be done immediately in this section

      No you are incorrect. More than 1.6 km of track laying is pending in this section from Kottayam to Kumaranelloor in 2 sections, one from just under Nagambadom ROB to just south of Meenechil river bridge and another one north to SH Mount railway gate.

      @roney mannanal - how can you say your comment is based on journey you made last week, when your comment is already 2 weeks old. I made the calculation based on this video and scaling length from maps.
      Any way it is a good thing works are faster now , compared to about a 10 years taken from 2009 to 2019 for land acquisition for railway doubling from Ettumanoor to Chingavanam.

    For the goods trains, I see 2 or 3 lines at north far side of Kottayam entry as just started construction from the video, any thoughts on where it will converge?

      Two more platforms 4 & 5 are being built at Kottyam as well as a Platform 1 A for trains starting from Kottayam. These are in addition to the goods platform which will be the Platform # 6. Tracks 1 & 2 will be raised soon and trains might use tracks 3 & 4, or possibly the traffic will be diverted for a week or two via Allappuzha, is my understanding. A new entrance is coming on the East side too at Kottayam station.

      Diverting trains via allepoy is not possible. Some trains thru ktym will be canceled during cut and connect operations.

      @@mar092009 The platforms are going to be raised as per news paper reports. When you see the new tracks laid, the tracks on at platforms 1&2 are much lower. So it is obvious that those will be raised to match. Reason could be for easing of gradient or possibly remodelling of platforms to suit longer trains, even to prevent waterlogging.
