The explanations at the beginning are reaaaally long. 9 minutes seems a bit much. I feel like I’d learn the deck better by having a brief explanation and an additional game, explaining while doing (this is mostly a commentary on how I learn, possibly some food for thought) That said, still love the videos! Just my thoughts. Keep up the quality content
I like the explanation in the beginning, but sometimes, I don't need them. A good compromise would be a time stamp in the top corner to skip the explanation.

The first time I saw Nightpack Ambusher, I already knew I'd want to make a deck with it. But there's another card that I'd love to use it with: Rule of Law. I REALLY want to make a Bant version of this deck work, even if it's only to play Rule of Law and screw with the opponent. Oh, and enjoy your trip to Barcelona, CGB, I live near that city. And keep your wallet in check: the subway is full of thiefs who love to prey on tourists.
Keep it up CGB! I would like to hear more how the decks you present are competing in the meta. Your analysis during the game is what I like the most. Helped me a lot to stop wasting my cards and save some against signature cards of various opponent decks.
Funny, I just came back and was starting with an old Red Frenzy deck and while I was listening to this video I end up playing this deck. I may have to try this deck later, looks fun. Glad to see you are pumping out the videos.
Fun deck to play, a nightmare to play against. I've been running Gruul lately and I stock up on ceratops and keep the old' Carny-T in the mainboard to keep threats grounded and uncountered. Still not an easy match. If my ramp gets hosed I can't do much until turn 4 and by then I'm getting BB gunned by Sailors and mermaids.

Even with a lot of removal, like Dimir control, this deck isn't easy to beat. If the 2/1 merfolk isn't killed immediately while they're tapped, it can grow out of control if protected by counters. And since all the creatures come in instant speed, it can get damage through against sorcery removals.
@@nandopaiva4848 4 Baby tefery versus 10 counter spells. I think this deck will do just fine. Hell in Bof 3 against a creature less deck you can swap essence scatters for negates and what not.
Great match vs white wheenies. Also I've seen a version of this with 1 the 1UU planeswalker who creates 4/4 dragons on 2nd turn and ensures tempo all the way. Doesn't work instant speed but very powerful.
Esper control does hurt this deck with the massive amounts of bounce and Teferi straight locking down instant-speed or Flash abilities. But I do love that Nightpack Ambusher.
I wonder why people feel the need to act like assholes in youtube comments. Anyway yes this deck is painful to play against and if you're not playing the ranked ladder, but just some casual unranked play it can be frustrating to go against this and not fun. Also, stop being a dick in the comments.
Though I guess it may apply more to mono blue, Esper control/hero, nexus and simic flash due to their ability to dominate the game in a way that often feels difficult to interact with.
I played this deck quite a bit over the last couple of days. Sure, when T3feri comes down you have a problem. But you generally have enough ways to counter him when you anticipate him being played. I think the deck is a lot stronger in Bo3 because you have access to four copies of Shifting Ceratops which pretty much win you the game versus Mono U and can outpace esper decently well in combination with Veil of Summer and the tons of counterpells.
I would avoid spamming the cat for the time being if i were you. It may cause your opponents pc to lag and even crash, maybe. Some people reported on reddit that they were suspended from the game for 5 days for spamming it these last few days. Personally i just turn it off, it lags the sht out of my pc when my opponent starts spamming it.
I run a green / white wolf deck in MTGA right now, wolves creating more wolves and cards that buff wolves! And, Tolsimir, Friend to elves is a REALLY strong card combined with the nightpack ambushers. You've got complete creature control if the enemy lets it spiral out of hand...
I play a slightly different variation of this deck since i don't own any "Nightpack Ambusher." As for the Counter-Spells i generally prefer either "Wizard's Retort" and "Lookout's Dispersal" over "Sinister Sabotage" due to the fact it usually gets discounted thanks to the Wizard/Pirate Typing of the main creatures of the deck. I generally consider the possible Discount more valuable than the Surveil 1. Also, i prefer "Essence Capture" over "Essence Shatter" thanks to the +1/+1 Counter it adds, making a simple creature like "Spectral Sailor" able to pressure more. Still, im looking for potential ways to increase the deck's potential, even with the lack of "Nightpack Ambusher". A cheaper alternative could be "Swift Warden" as it's a Flash Creature with basically a "Dive-Down" attached for Merfolk.
Nightpack Ambusher doesn't get people to scoop its because this copy and pasted deck plays 12+ counter spells in best of one. I scoop at spectral sailor. No point in playing when you don't get to play magic. *Instant Concede* enjoy playing solitaire.
This deck will be around for a while, it's fairly cheap, and I have mixed feelings about it. Flash decks are cool, but 14 Counterspells maindeck. With Mono Red, they kill you quick, you can at least get a drink or use the bathroom in between rounds. Against control, they slowly torture you until they finally run you out of resources and kill you in the slowest manner possible, usually via Teferi Emblem or using your finishers stolen via Thief of Sanity, though usually the game ends with the opponent scooping. This deck strikes a medium between the two. It usually does the most annoying thing in MTG in my opinion, "Blue Land, pass turn." EVERY TURN, forcing you to interact on their terms. If you don't, and decide to play on your turn, they most likely will counter your spell, untap, play a land and pass, forcing you into the same position you were last turn, while slowly stripping your resources. This goes to the argument "They cant have a counterspell every turn." They don't have to. Just the threat of it or a Flash creature is enough to make you go: "Hm, lets hold up mana and interact with them." This often leads to them not playing anything, playing a land and passing turn, putting you in the same position as last turn. It creates this feeling that the game can't be won, because they have you in a lock of "If I play on my turn, their gonna react by countering, but if I hold off of playing my spells, they can flash in a threat, or not play anything and just wait for me to play." This is a frustrating feeling for many players, because your now in a lose-lose situation no matter what. Decks like this should exist, for the sole purpose of making a player think about all the possibilities that a deck like this can throw at you. At the same time though, don't expect people not to be flustered after you counter their spells six times in a game, and never play a spell on their turn.
Question CGB could you rotation proof this deck im not sure what you would do to replace the Merfolk Trickster with or the Entrancing Melody and opt with as for the Essence Scatter you could switch it with Essence Capture but i wanted to know what you take on this would be
Fairy Duelist is a trade for Trickster, but hopefully the next set will have a decent cheap blue/green flashy card. Melody could be a bounce spell, another counterspell, or versions run MuYing (no idea how to spell her)

Not sure I like all the counters, they just aren't a ton of fun and if you don't have them when you need them you might be sol. I think I like the simic version better, but would try more creature heavy with vivien that gives creatures flash
I LOVE Nightpack Ambusher so much. Wish Wolf Tribal was a thing in Standard, they've gained a bunch of cards this time, so you could theoretically do it, but most of them suck, and many are high cost.
@@savieira Eh, I don't know. A lot of the stuff that triggers on Wolf, triggers on Werewolf too. So I think it could be for Non-Standard format support, rather than intended for Standard itself.
Loving the content CGB, and this deck is awesome! I play this deck in (paper) casual with my friends and I love playing everything at instant speed (No one in my play group runs Teferi), the only problem is most of them are bringing modern built decks to the table. Does anyone have any suggestions how to to upgrade this deck and make it better for modern? (It doesn't need to be busted, we are playing casual. Just want to try and upgrade it a bit!) Thanks
Instant speed cards really make this game unplayable shit. It was a nice break when teferi turned them off for a month and now we are back again for the 4th time when instant speed counters are the meta. Real fun
Lol instants are the thing that makes mtg different from casual games like hearthstone and makes you outthink opponent, not just play by manacurve like monocolor or some kinds of midrange

It's mostly deck knowledge. Usually the mono red player wants to play Light up the stage before playing lands, that way, if the spell exiles a land, he can still play a land on the turn and not waste it.
Pretty sure the correct list runs negate maindeck. Not sure where you’re getting tef3 isn’t doesn’t see much play atm I see it everywhere and negate/pierce is the only way to effectively deal with it. Pretty sure the correct list is 2-3 scatter 2 negate cut the Melody maindeck. Thanks for the content prefer bo3 but still a lot of fun been loving this deck.
A lot of this deck will still be good after rotation as well. Youre missing maybe one or two cards that dont already have decent replacements. I run this deck now with only standard after rotation cards and still crush ppl
Decks like this are why I don't ever rank up to beyond diamond lol I just leave usually when ALL of my spells start getting countered. As usual, anything that prevents me from actually playing the game is gonna be hated on lol

Have you tried playing blue hate? There's plenty of powerful uncounterable spells, with Lightning Mare, Fry, Chandra Awakened Inferno, Carnage Tyrant, Shifting Ceratops, Veil of Summer, Domri... If you're black you can play hand hate, 4x duress will do the trick... Thought Distorsion will absolutely rekt control decks. If you're white you can always Teferi, too. Whinie white splashes blue for Teferi and a couple counterspells. Tithe Taker is also extremely good against them. Overall play cheaper spells, too. That's assuming you play bo3, though I guess you can play a couple of these cards in bo1 without getting too punished... But honestly, if you play bo1 you're kinda doing this to yourself.
@@Naccarat I do. I just don't like to play the particular deck that I use against it. Gruul with shifting ceratops, rhythm, and carnage tyrant eats it alive. I just don't prefer to play that particular deck. The other commenters just assumed I was saying I couldn't beat it. Not the case - I just prefer to run other decks so I just leave instead of wasting my time using a deck that isn't good against it. I just love how they all assume I was saying it's impossible to beat lol 😂 nothing could be further from the truth. There's nothing in magic that can't be stopped somehow. It's that way by design. Thank you for actually taking the time to think before responding instead of just hurling a 3 year old temper tantrum like the others.
I would scoop too, nobody wants to play against a boring people who find fun in playing the game without opponent, just sitting there and durdling your own cards around. I think all people who enjoy opponent doing nothing should play pve or something.

birds....not dragons.....but I do like the 1 mu in the deck, it just turns off the early creatures

A Rakdos-Aggro deck seems to be good enough to beat/hang with the Simic Flash decks, from what I've experienced.

Instant speed cards really make this game unplayable shit. It was a nice break when teferi turned them off for a month and now we are back again for the 4th time when instant speed counters are the meta. Real fun
Lol instants are the thing that makes mtg different from casual games like hearthstone and makes you outthink opponent, not just play by manacurve like monocolor or some kinds of midrange

It's mostly deck knowledge. Usually the mono red player wants to play Light up the stage before playing lands, that way, if the spell exiles a land, he can still play a land on the turn and not waste it.

Pretty sure the correct list runs negate maindeck. Not sure where you’re getting tef3 isn’t doesn’t see much play atm I see it everywhere and negate/pierce is the only way to effectively deal with it. Pretty sure the correct list is 2-3 scatter 2 negate cut the Melody maindeck. Thanks for the content prefer bo3 but still a lot of fun been loving this deck.

A lot of this deck will still be good after rotation as well. Youre missing maybe one or two cards that dont already have decent replacements. I run this deck now with only standard after rotation cards and still crush ppl

Decks like this are why I don't ever rank up to beyond diamond lol I just leave usually when ALL of my spells start getting countered. As usual, anything that prevents me from actually playing the game is gonna be hated on lol

Have you tried playing blue hate? There's plenty of powerful uncounterable spells, with Lightning Mare, Fry, Chandra Awakened Inferno, Carnage Tyrant, Shifting Ceratops, Veil of Summer, Domri... If you're black you can play hand hate, 4x duress will do the trick... Thought Distorsion will absolutely rekt control decks. If you're white you can always Teferi, too. Whinie white splashes blue for Teferi and a couple counterspells. Tithe Taker is also extremely good against them. Overall play cheaper spells, too.
That's assuming you play bo3, though I guess you can play a couple of these cards in bo1 without getting too punished... But honestly, if you play bo1 you're kinda doing this to yourself.
@@Naccarat I do. I just don't like to play the particular deck that I use against it. Gruul with shifting ceratops, rhythm, and carnage tyrant eats it alive. I just don't prefer to play that particular deck. The other commenters just assumed I was saying I couldn't beat it. Not the case - I just prefer to run other decks so I just leave instead of wasting my time using a deck that isn't good against it. I just love how they all assume I was saying it's impossible to beat lol 😂 nothing could be further from the truth. There's nothing in magic that can't be stopped somehow. It's that way by design. Thank you for actually taking the time to think before responding instead of just hurling a 3 year old temper tantrum like the others.

I would scoop too, nobody wants to play against a boring people who find fun in playing the game without opponent, just sitting there and durdling your own cards around. I think all people who enjoy opponent doing nothing should play pve or something.
