Father Fournier (who saved the crown) is an absolutely AMAZING man, he was a former military that survived ambush attack in afghanistan, he was one of the first to enter the bataclan during the terror attack and made the heavily wounded pray before dying and he did not hesitate to jump into the fire to save the crown of Jesus and the cape of Saint-Louis, this man is amazing !

BTW: A great irony is that the Notre Dame management was begging, pleading and searching worldwide for financial support for the renovations being done prior to the fire. Did you ever hear the tragedy of The Hunchback of Notre Dame the Good? I thought not. It's not a story the French would tell you. It's a Church legend. The Hunchback of Notre Dame was a friend of the Church, so good and so caring he could use his strength to save lives… He had such a knowledge of the good in people's hearts that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The pursuit of love is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so strong… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his Chapel, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he saved everyone from the fire, and then could not escape at the last moment. Ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself.

Oh, I know! I'll allow one of the crucifixes and the Rose window to survive. That'll show them that there is some good that came out of the fire."

My opinion probably won't be popular, but this is it anyways....it appears that this magnificent building which took close to 300 years to build...had as much protection against fire in 2019 as it did when it was completed in 1345.
Basic fire suppressant systems have been around for at least a few hundred years, and we now have very sophisticated computerized monitoring for heat/smoke and thus computerized/remote fire suppression systems that can be initialized in case of a fire, which could have stopped the first tongues of flame. There's everything from sprinkler systems that use water or chemicals that automatically could have come on and there are fire retardant coatings that could have been used on those massive ancient wood beams. So Many things could have been done to stop, limit, slow the spread of the fire.
I can't say if I'm more sad or more angry about all the beauty and historical things lost. This cathedral should have been protected with everything that modern technology has to offer.
I wouldn't be surprised if some government bean counters figured it wasn't worth it when compared to the odds of a fire happening.

    • @agffans5725

Regarding the Crown of thorns, then it can be traced all the way back to year 409 where it was mentioned to be a relic held in honor, so it's very old for sure, and not one of the countless fake relics made in Europe in the Middle Ages. ... As for DNA then the crown no longer has any thorns ... they either fell off or were broken off and then also used as holy relics. The Emperor of the Byzantine Empire Justinian I (who died in year 565) is said to have given a thorn to the Bishop of Paris, just as the Byzantine Empress Irene of Athens gave several of the thorns to the Roman Emperor Charlemagne (who died in year 814), of which one of these thorns later was given to the Anglo-Saxon King Athelstan in 927. After the crown was brought to Paris the last 60 or 70 broken off thorns was given away, so that none of these now remain in Paris... But obviously there are also many fake relic thorns that did not come from this crown, because there now seem to be more than 700 relic thorns out there.

It is also possible that church gained access to it soon after Jesus was crucified. But if you're asking how can they be sure, well they really cant be 100% possitive, but tests have been done on the wood of the crown and they can come up with the age of the relic and then see if it matches up with the period of Jesus

@@Andrej-f7c What do you mean by this? You don't get to decide what God gets to do, or what is and isn't evil. But you can question all of it and try and find answers. Whether literally or metaphorically, God wiped the entire world with a flood because of its wickedness.
The world was much more wicked before the God of Abraham. People would sacrifice their children to Moloch. Rome was also much more evil before Christianity. But now Europe, France in this case, is being invaded by Muslims. I believe their ideology is evil to the core, unlike Jews, Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, etc.
I'm simply asking if anyone thinks this is a sign.

@@kingdavid7516 Nah, you're comment is just a sign of how dumb you are. Not really surprised tbh from someone who believes in a religion that says that the world is 6000 years old, and killed many scientists and killed anyone who saud the earth is not flat. History shows that once the west began leaving christianity countries prospered which is another reason. On the other hand, you're being a hypocrite by attacking muslims for no reason because many people are converting after finding islam more appealing than christianity. Get your facts right and read abour islam from muslims perspective so you can have a full picture then talk

Why do they keep saying "Jesus wore the crown of thorns to his crucifixion"....he didn't "wear" it...it was forced on his head....they are making it sound like he was making a fashion statement, "Hey can I get something in hardwood teak for my big day...it'll go great with my nails"!!!

The Apostles would have destroyed the crown in order to prevent idolatry if someone had tried to keep it for a relic. Read the Bible and see what the truth really is.

The Roman Catholic Church claimed to have the authority to change the commandments of God, which is what they did. They removed the 2nd commandment to do with worshiping idols and they changed the 4th commandment which states we are to keep the 7th day as the sabbath, to the 1st day. And this was done so that the Pagans could join with the Catholic Church but continue to worship their sun-god.

Ramzi Haroun so many worship the gift more than the Gifter. When Jesus returns , all these buildings will be destroyed. Gods wrath is coming and all earthly things will be destroyed . God does not live in a temple made by human hands.
