    WOW ! Glad this showed up in my “you might like this” feed. Now if I only lived on the east coast of the US instead of landlocked Alberta, Canada. These vessels are the stuff dreams (mine) are made of. Oh, liked & subbed.

    Thank you for the video. It’s very nice however I’m out on the West Coast to Los Angeles area and I’m looking for a sailboat to purchase under 10,000. What would you recommend and how would I learn how to sell it and use it and be safe with it and how much more should my budget be once I purchase the sailboat I looked at some auctions and some of them are pretty good sailboats. I don’t want gasoline I rather have diesel 😊

    • @boatfools
      @boatfools  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello! If you don’t have a ton of sailing experience, you should take a class through ASA. Hugely beneficial. We will be doing another SoCal Top 10 this fall and will keep an eye out for deals. It’s tough to suggest a budget without knowing what you have for a boat, or what your options are in terms of the quality and condition of your potential boats. There are some great deals out there, but you really have to look for them, and be patient…

    its a buyers market for sure.. im doing used sailboat shopping , last 3 weeks and as a first time buyer.. i expected what ever person would think a used car lot .nope not even close. you know how when a seller hears he has a potential good buyer w/ cash in hand. you would think knowing i have have a 4 hrs drive, you would think a boat broker would haul ass to the boat and CLEAN IT UP.. nope they dont do shit show a boat thats been on hard for past 5 years, the bilge is completely full of water, all the woood varnish is yellowing and peeling, the dodger is GONE, the dingy is flat for years with greem moss growing on it.. thats not a condition of a boat that im willing to fork over 60 grand.. me and my boatman have looked at about 16 boats and we got a mariner 47 to look at this saturday.... honestly i been looking at big ass boats that carry hefty price tags and they all looked delapidated.. also every boat owner has drop price from 60 and 70 grand down to 30 and 40 grand.. boats are not selling and boat owners are ready to almost give their boats away now.. thats my poast three week experience in sailboat shopping in east, west and south florida...

    • @boatfools

      This is a great take, and accurate. The effort sellers and brokers put in to selling a boat is near nil. They need to take a page out of real estate and at least try to make a boat look nice for showings… Thanks for watching!

    What is the best place to get good deals? East coast? Florida? West coat, Great lakes? I have seen some really nice boats in Chicago under 20k

    • @boatfools
      @boatfools  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends where you live. East Coast is generally more expensive IMO. Great Lakes region seems to be lower. But if you're not from those areas, transport would be expensive unless you plan on sailing it home - wherever that may be. Florida and California have the most inventory, which makes sense based on population. What are you looking for?

    Love the video. So for some of us who are new to boat buying, when you say "aim low" on the price, is there a rule of thumb for this? I mean like 5% - 10% range off the ask price.

    • @boatfools
      @boatfools  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Andrian! Great question. Obviously you don’t want to be offensive, and it it’s a for sale by owner, you have greater flexibility because there is no broker involved. But, generally speaking, your instincts are correct. 10% would be the top end, in my opinion, for a broker represented boat, but I’d try for more on a for sale by owner, maybe even 20%. You just never know. And always preface with a kind comment, or “Would you ever entertain an offer of xxx?”, or something like that. Kindness always helps! Hope this helps!

    • @boatfools
      @boatfools  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also, keep in mind that if you’re going to get a survey, which I recommend, you hold a portion of your offer/payment in reserve until the results of the survey and sea trial have come back. These can be great negotiating tools!

      Ha! Not sure he’d help the cause. It’s going to be a long season…. The Smile: it all depends. What’s the year of the boat? Have the keel bolts been replaced? Have you had a survey? Does she leak? There’s a tremendous amount of info in some cruiser forums, if you haven’t found these already. All sorts of recommendations, fixes, etc. Definitely worth checking out. Good luck and thanks for watching!
