    Awesome video, thanks for the upload. Also, I like starting my taps in the drill press with slight downward pressure and turning the chuck by hand.

    This is my fav. fabrication channel. I subscribe to a number of machinist channels but your channel vids are quick but also stuffed with info.

    i was wanting to know what is the best belt sander to buy for knife making with changing wheels and how much would that cost, reason why I'm trying to save up for one to step up my skills

    • @Simplelittlelife
      @Simplelittlelife  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      a 2X72 is the best size for knife making but others will work too. The KMG by Beaumont Metals Works is probably one of the best values for commercially available units. Beyond that you can also make one, which is what I started with. Cheers!

    • @aspenbanjo
      @aspenbanjo 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm considering making a 2x72 as well. Would you do a video that compares the unit you built to the beaumont?

    • @Simplelittlelife
      @Simplelittlelife  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +aspenbanjo unfortunately I don't have my homemade one anymore. Blue Dog Garage has a really good series on the 2X72 that he made though. Cheers!

    Where did you learn that about the oil for cooling by extracting the chips? is there a technical information I can see on that?

    • @Simplelittlelife
      @Simplelittlelife  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Joe Halas it was part of our theory class when I did my Millwright apprenticeship. If you have a coolant pumping/spraying system that's different. But for cutting oil like I use in the video, it's primary function is to keep chips moving away from the cutting edge and allow the chips to exit the hole and prevent binding.

    never use a drillpress wearing gloves!!

    • @randoprior4130
      @randoprior4130 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      derEde Yes we all understand this little tid bit of information. Just FYI, he uses what he calls mill gloves or something like that, which he explains in a later video. Most of any gloves he uses when he works tear away very easily, so if they ever did catch on a spindle or any moving part in theory they will tear apart and not wrap up in something spinning. I never knew these existed but they are super neat. They are nice for working on a drill press and can help avoid those chips flying into your hands. Just my two cents but most everyone who works with these tools have already received this comment enough to understand the danger. You accept that danger as soon as you walk up to the tool.
