This has to be the best free fishing seminar (actually, it's probably better than most paid seminars) that I've seen. Thank you so much for sharing this invaluable information!
Was hoping you'd touch on which hook point gets you hung-up the most frequently. I've trimmed the forward facing treble....but it isn't THAT one. Trimmed the forward rear also.....No help. I fish them a lot around 3-8' wood cover and I lose A LOT of baits. Just seems to be "the price you pay" but I'd love to hang-up less. No problems at all loosing fish......but going through snags feel so much like bites that it's impossible not to set the hook on limbs. And too many times I'm decorating the lay downs like a Christmas tree. 😅
Keep experimenting with the hook sizes and styles. I throw them on 12 lb line or heavier. If I am heading to an urban jungle with a lot of underwater obstacles, 15-17 lb nylon line or 20 lb braided line. I just take a blue marker and color the 18-22" near the lure. Also try investing in a good bait retrieval tool. You can also try that crazy technique of holding your line at the spool and feeding your rod and reel down the line to knock your lure loose. I have also been able to use a second rod and attach to the stuck line and pull my lure from a completely different angle.
Very Very good one ... thank you very much ... i am a smallmouth fisherman in canada and the lipless crankbait is my preferate lure and i have to learn more for the summer with this lure ;-) thank's for the courses ;-)
The best trap rod I’ve ever used is the Phenix Feather 7’7” MHF. It’s listed as a MHF but it’s actually more of a heavier Medium Mod fast. I fish in Florida and this rod is stiff enough to rip the bait out of hydrilla but soft enough tip to keep them pinned. I use 40lb braid to a 17-20lb flouro leader. The 7’7 has enough length to fish the bait over heavy hydrilla flats and change the hooks from round bend to short shank EWG hooks #4 mustard hooks
I'm pretty good at absorbing fishing content, fishing styles, techniques and lure choice from videos I've watched over the last several years. Randy this information using the lipless crankbaits is very informative.. especially the varied weight sizes under specific conditions. Thank you for sharing. Later I'll return to this video and write down some notes.
I found an old zebco 33 lipless crank bait they sent my dad about 15 years ago. It's like a shad pattern with chrome shine on it. I cant find it anywhere but it seems like it would catch a fish. It has a bunch of small bbs in it for the rattle.. i just put some rapala brown trout hooks on it they are a little bigger but better then the stock hooks. Ill update you if i catch anything
Thanks for the info...I do believe that thd Cotton Cordell "Spot" falls slower then the Rattle Trap? Randy I still have a old South Bend Rattle Trap rod. Have a happy New Year

What line would you recommend for working a 1/4 trap like a silver buddy in the winter. As far as pound test. Fishing mainly 5 to 15 feet deep.
Good info Randy. TY
Randy, thanks for doing your videos, I enjoy and watch every day🎉
I've only caught 2 bass on reaction w a lipless yoyo double snap. Glad you made a video. All my lipless baits can get dusted off.....thx Randy 💥🎣👍🤠
The old speed cast fantail lure's work great for me. I just don't have good luck rattle traps

Sorry but what is the better way to fish a lipless in summer , 1-2 foot visibility in a low flow river ;-) ??? for smallmouth ;-)
I love trolling rat-L traps
This is old school style. Believe you me.
No mention of floating traps?!
Shhh. Lol they are deadly
I absolutely can’t watch my bait while retrieving or I’ll jerk it away.
Thanks!
