Concerning your comment about chrome lures…..I paint lures. Have a guy that had some mirror chrome Rat-L-Traps that the finish chipped off. Since I had just gotten some chrome paint I thought I could refinish them. Had every confidence they would turn out. They were shiny enough after painting and before coating, but when I add my usual epoxy over the top it kills the shine. I’ve spent probably 50 hours and close to $100 trying to figure out how to get a mirror chrome finish with an epoxy coat. I’m five paints and four finishes in so far. I think factory lures usually have real chrome which looks great but is brittle and chips off. My current quest in life is to figure this out but it’s way more of an uphill battle than I expected

The finish you describe is probably what I’m getting, which is more like brushed aluminum rather than chrome. That is easy to obtain. If you want some, reply to this comment and I’ll paint some up and send them to you free. I’ll provide the blanks if you let me know what you want. I have Wiggle Wart, Rat-L-trap, and swim bait blanks among others. The base lure needs to be a smooth, not have a grooved finish I think factory lures usually have real chrome which looks great but is brittle and chips off. Hey Randy , traditionally small in the fall is usually the norm, when you you start going back to full size baits , I not sure I’ve ever heard anyone talk about this , possibly water temp or just by experimenting?

I've been painting my own lures to match the forage the bass eat in the lakes I fish. The ones I painted in most cases work better than the store brands. I also think that they work better because I'm the only person that is throwing that pattern.

Fishing has been tough here the past few weeks. I catch a few here and there but they just don’t seem to be biting much. We also went from very dry to raining just about every day. Temperatures are about 10 degrees cooler too. You would think those combinations would make them active but it hasn’t.

Love fishing in the rain, just hate that I have to put the cameras away

Southern California here… I start bass fishing mid October to mid March then switch to surf fishing here and in Mexico. The reason being is our lakes are smaller compared to the rest of the country therefore extremely pressured from Spring through Summer.

Great jig advice,thanks Randy I would love to hear more about your time in the Atchafalaya basin fishing! or techniques you used while fishing there/dirty water techniques/lures. I am from that area and fish it all the time.

Always useful information but would you consider doing a video with tips and advise on how to work a jig through cover, lay downs, bushes, even rock where you don’t get hung up and lose less jigs?

Went out last week, no other boats out and caught -0-. Had two fish contacts. Fished many of the recommended lures for Sept. but found no fish on points, docks, rip-rap....shallow and deep. Saw deer and herons by the water. Water temp was 80 and lake was down about 2 ft.

Our weather if fluctuating from just under 80 degrees to 39 degrees. What should I be using then? Asking for a friend. Okay okay, it’s me. Fish aren’t biting anything right now it seems.

Caught 30 plus on a Ned yesterday in very skinny water. 1/16 oz with the a trd or other 2.5 - 3” plastic. Very skinny water. 5-7 mph flow. 1/16 oz so it fallls and floats with the current.
