    This is why Chris was banned from driving Ferraris for years. He wrote a column on Jalopnik talking about how Ferrari would demand to know which tracks the car would be tested on so they could send engineers along beforehand and adjust the setup to suit, sometimes sending 2 cars: one for the track test segment and one for the 0-60 & drag race tests, both tuned to suit each test. One of the cars Ferrari sent glued its tyres to the rollers when being dyno tested because they put racing tyres on it disguised to look like the standard P Zeros or whatever. Every magazine let's them do this, otherwise you don't get to test Ferraris. A lot of 360 modena owners were annoyed when the car provided for a review was 2 seconds quicker to 100mph than a customer car. In Chris' own words: “It’s gotten out of control; to the point that it will soon be pointless believing anything you read about its cars through the usual channels, because the only way you get access is playing by its rules.”
    He did get to drive a 458 during his ban though - apparently Clarkson lent him his press car for a day, its on TH-cam.

      Yes. Those who drove the yellow press 458 now know it was halfway to being a a 458 Challenge underneath. But here’s an important point, I’ve also heard other journalists point out that while the press Ferrari’s were surely customized, they’ve driven plenty of customer cars and really the experience was equally fantastic. So it seems that while the numbers may not be trustworthy, the experience is still fantastic.

    • @juzoli
      @juzoli 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Joshua Thiel Magazines should just stop reciewing Ferraris then. They have dozens of other cars to test, so it is not a big loss.
      Ferrari would be much worse off, if no one would review their cars if they are cheating.

    • @LethalJizzle
      @LethalJizzle 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@alexbelmonte4581 True, in the article Chris wonders why they felt the need to put sticky tyres on a Scuderia, since its already incredibly fast and a very good car. Seems Ferrari with their race pedigree and heritage feel they NEED to be faster than the comparable Lambos and McLarens, or else their brand would lose its prestige. I imagine a lot of Ferrari owners like to feel smug that they have the "best" car and if Ferraris start getting beaten in tests by other brands, they're worried the image of the brand would be damaged and those customers will go elsewhere.

Interesting to hear that Ferrari is still playing the game of controlling test results. Basically every single car company does that, I mean they even have the GT2 RS MR right now which is perfectly set up for the Nordschleife.
      If you have ever been to a racing event by Ferrari you actually would know that the customers that actually track their cars get the services of the “technicians” as well.
      The funny thing is that the people saying Ferrari can’t build fast cars always tell you the press cars are 2 seconds faster than the customer car which is basically a antithesis as they tell you the guys that can’t build fast cars sent Mario and Luigi and all of a sudden the “slow” car is doing lap records.

      Absolutely. The BBC wanted to replicate the trio dynamic. So they brought an arrogant American and a loud annoying DJ thinking: "Yes... this will work!". It didn't.
      Chris Harris is a breath of fresh air. If the BBC let him be himself, he will do a proper show. Just let the star shine by itself!

      Well, depends if you're posing or driving. I've had 10 Ferraris and still own two, but my latest car is a 600lt. I'm a driver, not a poser, and the 600lt is the better, more enjoyable car. And regardless of the power difference, I'd take it over a 720s at the same price (I did, so no bs here). What you need to realize is that when people are regularly driving these cars, they are judging in a far more subtle and nuanced manner than any 5 minute TH-cam blurb or Road and Driver Trend magazine article can capture. And they are probably not 14.

    chris harris is an honest man, i do feel like brits always have a inclination to want a McLaren.
    It's the same reason why us Americans prefer a Ford GT even though it lacks in straight line speed compared to its rivals.

      @Cloxxki 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Brits were already in a luxury position with their performance car market but struck really lucky with McLaren going big.
      I'm not feeling the Ford GT. Too derivative, forcefully exclusive, overpriced for its capability and real world practicality. A 720S at half price will slap it while holding not just its handbag, but its frigging suitcases.

      The only twp countries that need to be really proud or deserve to show is the Sweden and Germany, honestly what the Swedish have done with their Volvo cars and their koenigsegg cars is beyond belief, like 1300+ from 5.0 V8 and the results speak for themselves, now that's engineering at its finest, and as for Germany well their cars have been the best especially the E30 being the most beautiful car ever made on this planet honestly even by today's standards it's such a beautiful car I can't think of any car that it I had all the wealth of the world that I'd chose over the E30 man those days were the best and the best thing is the Germans are still great with their new Audi's and mercs and BMW's
