  • Can you safely apply a ceramic coating to car paint without machine polishing? The answer is yes, because a coating wants clean paint to bond properly. But how do you get the paint clean enough to ensure the coating gets maximum longevity and performance? That's what Nick and Yvan table in this video.

    I’m in the UK so I don’t have an iconic American car in mind (although the original mustangs are pretty cool). However in terms of iconic British Cars for me it will always be the classic Mini. I had one as my first car (sadly rolled it within 6 months 😭) and 20 years later I’m determined to get another one when I have the spare money and a garage to store it. When I do that thing is gonna be detailed within an inch of its life 😂. For now my car is a 2006 Yaris with 116,000 miles on the clock but it’s proving a very good learning car for trying detail things on without worrying too much about any potential damage I might do. When DIY Detail products hit the UK I’ll be trying out polishing for the first time on it as watching the Gold Standard system makes me feel comfortable doing so.

    Pro Tip - wash with the sponge or decontamination towel the lower parts (ie rocker panels, wheel well openings, etc) AFTER you have washed the hood and sides of the car. This way you have less chance of carrying the dirtier area’s debris to the upper parts of the car.

    Every time I see Nick bending down to hit a wheel, I can feel it in my knees. There was a time when I could do that, too. One gets older and it's not necessarily a pretty picture. If you don't mind my saying, perhaps introduce the use of a rolling stool to your audience. Saves knees and backs, and makes life easier all around.

    Once you polish a car and apply one of your ceramic coatings, is there any reason to polish again before the end of the ceramic coatings intended life (3, 5, or 8 yrs) if it is well maintained with weekly hand washes, water spot remover and iron remover as needed and perhaps topped off with ceramic gloss every couple months? Will polishing with the gold standard diminish some of the ceramic coating? Thanks!

    • @diydetailofficial
      @diydetailofficial  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You might decide to do a light polish if you get some stubborn water spots or swirls and scratches. If you do a super light polish, you can just finish with Ceramic Gloss. If you feel like you've really been grinding in there, it might be a good idea to re-coat.

    • @renuing
