- ✤Hey Everyone.
✤Welcome to my channel “ Miranda Detailing ” ✤
👇Do You NEED To Polish Before Applying A CERAMIC COATING? (Trick Question!)🚗
This subject causes a LOT of debate among detailers. However, those who dogmatically demand that a "TRUE PROFESSIONAL DETAILER" should ALWAYS polish before applying a ceramic coating FAIL to ask the most important questions. Each Detailing Business must make these decisions based on their customers. The only TWO things a TRUE Detailer should be concerned with, the RESULTS & CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE! Anyone else who says otherwise...should keep quiet and focus on your own business. Let the professionals handle their detailing business the way they see fit. Other Detailers DO NOT have the right to criticize other detailers.

Love this! Using this method to a customer that didn't want to pay the price to polish and coat.
Glad it was helpful!

I washed my sons white 89 mustang that had been sitting untouched for about three years using super clean and your decon/ wash method, all I can say is WOW, I was really impressed how this car turned out, big thanks Mr and Mrs Phil for showing me this process 👍😁❤️
Awesome! 😎👍🏼
Phil, as always, you did an outstanding job on my wife's Rogue. I can't say enough good things about the quality of your work and the results after. Thanks for your in-depth efforts you put into your work (wife too). I for one, can appreciate it - having been in the military for 22+ years.
Thanks so much!!
I have tried this on my personal detailing rig(2019 F150) with Gyeon Mohs and no polish. I’m finally at 1 year mark and it performs flawless. I didn’t follow maintenance at 6 months on peruse to do a true test. All original ceramic. No topper
LOL “ I don’t have cancer. It’s just precautionary. well thats stupid..” hahaha very true analogy. great to see some vids again from you guys!
😂😎👍
I use a creme final paint cleanser like Kamikaze Cleaner #5 for situations like this, to give it one last scrub before the panel prep, considering no polishing happened. Great ideas in this video, thanks much.
Great tip! Thanks for sharing!
I love getting notifications of a new video ! 🔥🔥
More to come! 😎👍🏼
Yes!!! I love this videos brother keep doing this!!! Love them 👍🏻👍🏻

@@MirandaDetailing you’re welcome
I've been diagnosed as a philmaniac 😁, thanks for sharing your knowledge & techniques, great contents in your vidéos, great tips and tricks for saving time and products, very informative, i used gtechniq pw and gyeon prep, the gyeon smell is better than pw. Keep up the good work, can't wait to watch your next vidéo 👍😁.
😁😎👍🏼 thanks!
As the economy continues to slow down this will become a necessary skill set. I do remember listening to a Meguiars podcast where they were talking about their panel prep not swelling the paint like other panel preps do. I so feel like I have a learning curve here though on panel prep. I bet the customer is thrilled with their coating!
Definitely! 😎👍🏼
Great video! Very informative. Yes, I like to see an in depth video of the NSP Polishes.
You got it!
New Chrysler Pacifica Oct. 2022. Iron decon, rinse and wash with Bilt Hamber AutoFoam, medium Nanoskin clay, panel prep, then coat with McKee’s 37 ceramic. 12 months later and the van looks great and the coating properties are intact. FWIW the paint is on the harder side and doesn’t mar easily. Everyone’s results will vary. Great video content.
Always giving all of us tons of useful knowledge and content Phil. Truly appreciate all your videos and ability to educate.
I appreciate that!😎👍🏼
Hi Phil, great video, i have to say I prefer educational videos over those that have the same cleaning process for 20 min, every video the same and no talk, no info, nothing. very very boring... but i always enjoy yours very much! tons of great tips and useful information, so thank you for that! 🙂just like i can easily watch Jim's (White Details) 1 hour videos 😁

Go for a video on nsp 45!!! And Do you use Uno advance? Finally, To answer your first question, i like this format of video!! I think your my first go to TH-cam detailler now 🎉 Great job
Thanks so much! 😎👍🏼
I always review Miranda Detailing prior to any automotive detailing. If Phil and Jess do it, I do it. Thank you,
Thanks man!
Great info phil. Glad you brought up diluting iron removers. I did do this for a short time but I too feel it’s better to use at full strength as you’re not sure what it’s doing to the formula. It only made sense to me because most iron removers are ok to be sprayed on a wet vehicle ie diluting the formula anyways lol
Thanks! Exactly! Too many detailers overthink that process. 😎👍🏼
When using SuperClean as a APC rinse what is your favorite ratio to use? Is it dependent on how dirty the vehicle is? A note about removing the plate. I work as a service tech at a car dealership in Ohio and with usually 10 year old and older vehicles, more so imports, that people trade in a good amount of the rear plate screws either snap or round out when trying to swap plates. I know because of this our detail department doesn’t remove plates on customer vehicles.
Hi. We use it 1:10. We found that’s the safest ratio that still cuts through the grime. 😎👍🏼
Okay, now I have to wait until next Sunday to see how this turns out. Here is me next Sunday afternoon on your TH-cam channel, refresh refresh refresh, ugh lol! BTW. I did meet Tony Ralda and was able to purchase several DIY products from. As always, thanks for the great information and your time for putting these videos out there for us to enjoy and learn from. Happy Thanksgiving.
😁👍🏼. Awesome! Glad Tony hooked you up!
Phil. enthusiast question here....do you typically ceramic coat the door jams? under the gas cap, backside of the hood...? I typically haven't just wonder what the pro industry does
Hi. I will only do that if the customer requests. But usually we do t as part of our coating services. I do use a ceramic sealant for those areas however.
I'd very much like a detailed video about NSP. I've not heard of this product till you mentioned it this video
What you not only should but you need to polish a car, even a new car before you ceramic coating BUT you should polish lightly to guarantee to remove ALL the manufacturers waxes and dealers coating and use a very light polishing
Please do a deep dive video on Dr. Beasley’s NSP polishes.
Got it! 😎👍🏼
Very cool. Way to think outside the box. Your experience for me is priceless.
I did have a license plate that didn't want to come off at first. It came off after I snapped off the bolt! Yeah. More work. Very pleasant experience.
Hi wife!
Thanks! 😎👍🏼
Great content!
Thanks sirs!!
Great info video one question can you use iron remover on PPF and on a wrap and also a clay towel
Hi. You can those of ppf. But you probably done need to. Go gentle with the chemicals and any clay barring of clay mitts/towels.
Great content as always. But, DIY Panel Prep does not have any IPA!!!! I made the same mistake, I was using it for the first time, smelled it, and said "Smells like IPA".... well Yvan was standing right next to me.... Big mistake!! He quickly corrected me and said it was Propanol-based. Then we went down the rabbit hole of the differences between Propanol and Isopropanol. Very educational, on how 1 little atom change, can affect the chemistry of a product.
Oh cool! I didn’t realize that! Thanks for that info! 😎👍🏼
I’d love a video about the NSP polishes Phil!
Hi. This video explains a lot! th-cam.com/video/qLd-0QajCn8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=C5wp9rCjMoEjcgkm
I’d love a video about the nsp polishes!
Very informative video! Im new to this and am older (64) and a female!!! My mentor has been the internet and my spare 10 year old car the guinea pig. This is my very first project and Im loving it!! Like you guys, I like to pre rinse (I use DIY APC and their incredible suds), then just the suds for the contact wash....wheels/rims get APC, DIY iron remover and suds. Im polishing now. I am heartbroken over the hood, particularly the front part of the hood - I think it's failed; a lot of full layer rock chips, etched in bug guts/water spots, and visually scattered base coat. Is there anything I can do to protect what's left? Im not willing to paint it or apply PPF. Can I just wax it? Im going to coat the rest of the car. Sorry so lengthly but the issues with my hood are a result of neglect!!! So people out there TAKE CAR OF YOUR CARS or they will trash out on you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi! Thanks! That’s awesome that you are caring for you vehicle now. That stinks about the hood. I guess just protecting with either wax or sealants or even coatings for now will help, but chips may start to rust and get worse over time. So eventually you may have to repaint it. But kudos to you! Enjoy the process!
Great Video Phil, thanks for the great information
Thank you for watching! 😎👍🏼
Great video. What would you suggest using as a pre wash for a car with a sealant on so as not to remove the sealant.
Hi. I usually don’t use a spring pre wash for maintenance details. But if you need to I would use diy Details rinseless wash. It foams up really well.

@@MirandaDetailing thanks! Love your channel, you (along with other detailing channels) have inspired me to start my own detailing business side-hustle!
@Jacob_Callahan That’s awesome!! We wish you success!!
Hi. Very good video as always! What you did is only working on cars without any ceramic coating, right?. All this chemicals will not delete a ceramic coatings in my opinion. And i think it is not a good idea to put a ceramic coating on to another one. Do you know Kamikaze cleanse No 5? Maybe this could work (Brian Splitter used it in a video), but i think maybe it destroy the paint. So i polish for a new ceramic.
Hi. If this vehicle already had a coating I would prefer to explain to the customer that polishing would be better to prep the paint because of it having a previous coating.
When I called gtechniq this is what i was told, a guy said to use their prep spray omly because he noticed people getting hazing by using other company's because of the isopropyl in it. Theirs is a ethanol base so it doesn't haze with their coating. Did you ever come across this? And is Gtechniq W4 Citrus Foam a good prewash like the one you used in your video?
Hi. I have heard other detailers say that. But I have never actually experienced it’s. That’s because we don’t use panel wipes anymore. Only on special jobs like this if we are not polishing. But check out our other ceramic coating videos and see how we use Dr Bealseys NSP primer polishes which allow us to coat without a panel wipe at all! It’s a game changer!
Unfortunately, there are a lot of stereotypes out there and it is brave of you to break that. Hey, It is your business and it is up to you how you do things. There is no absolute 1 way to do things in this industry and the ultimate end goal is, Is your customer happy and the result of the job. We applaud you two.
Thanks so much! 😎👍🏼
Priceless tips and tricks.
Great video 👍
great videos as always...don't let the trolls get you down
Awesome video as always!!
Thanks!
All things being equal, wouldn't a coating stick better to a textured surface?
🤔 never heard of that before. Ceramic coatings will bond to pretty much anything, whether it’s smooth or textured shouldn’t matter. As long as it’s clean and prepped.
@@MirandaDetailing just thinking of painting. Maybe the analogy doesn't work. I'm not a chemist lol
@@matsudakodo oh I see. Yeah I used to do interior house painting and that would’ve true of paint.

Hi Phil.. another great and informative video. Would love to know your decision to use C1 (because you have a tonne of it) .. over CSL? Thank you and your wifey :)
Hi. Thanks. Well I do have a bunch of it on hand since I became accredited with Gtechniq. Basically I just felt like using and showing on video how it applies… give my customer a better coating! 😎👍🏼
Time will tell about longevity...
P21S Paintwork Cleanser minimum.
Seems more longevity to not polish .... I respect you Phil ....watching intently.....
Thanks! 😎👍🏼
Hello Phil. Is it worth going through all those chemical stages, when it maybe quicker and equally effective if you had just polished the vehicle.
Great question. Maybe…hard to tell really. Usually even a “quick polish can take an hour or so. But exactly why I tell detailers try it for yourself and see what works for you. I mean for about 3 hours of work it’s pretty good profit. An extra hour of polishing really wouldn’t make or break the profit either. So both good points to think about. Excellent critical thinking! Thanks for sharing! 😎👍🏼
@@MirandaDetailing Thank you Phil.
As always amazing video and content good friend

Hi Phil and Jess. What’s the name of the electric sprayer you used with Turtle Wax DECON remover? Thanks in advance 👌🤗
Hi. Carsupplieswarehouse used to sell them but they discontinued them. It’s basically this amzn.to/49NzqT3
@@MirandaDetailing Thank you Phil and Jess👍
A cool thing I’ve started doing with iron removers is after I apply it and see it react I’ll foam over the top. It gives me more dwell time, rinses off easier & removes the residue better in my opinion than just water alone. Tell me what u think about this tip
Excellent tip! I’ve done before and it does work well. Excellent option! 😎👍🏼
Great video. Love the long format. I know you said that you were using a 5yr coating but offering as a 2yr would that be because of the no polishing aspect of the job so you wouldn't want to warrant the coating for 5yrs? Or is just down to the special offer you guys were offering? Looking forward to part 2.
Hi. Thanks. We don’t offer any warranties on coating unless the customer asks about it. Plus it’s not us offering the warranty it’s the coating company that does. C1, CSL, and CSU comes with warranty cards when accredited and purchased through Gtechniq directly. But used that C1 coating because I have a ton of it and felt like using it that day. 😎👍🏼
@MirandaDetailing Thanks. Makes sense!
Does the hybrid solutions rapid decon work OK with the DIY decontamination towel? I love both products but never used them together so I’m not sure if the rapid decon would break down the decontamination towel. Thank you!
Hi. I haven’t used it like the at yet. Honestly my wash and Decon methods are slightly different since I use a clay towel and wash mitt together and usually Decon after with chemicals if needed. But I’m sure it would work just fine.
@@MirandaDetailing Thank you for your response!
I have a quick question, is Virginia really for Lovers?
🤷🏻♂️ not from here so I wouldn’t know 🤣
Great vid and I love the tricks and tips, thank you. I have a question for you. In my area a lot of cars I do have bad water spotting. So I’ve been using super foam for my pre wash. I was wondering what do you if you have a water spotted car? I was thinking using the super foam as the pre wash then car pro descale as my wash then a water spot remover then use the clay mitt then chemical decon. Curious how you would handle this situation? Koch Chemie states 1:50 to 1:100 out of the foam cannon. Your dilution is about 1:200, has that worked best for you? Curious as I am going to play with super foam but want my dilutions right
Hi. Oh yeah. I always start with my own dilutions of 1-2oz per 32oz and then adjust from there if needed. It’s more than enough for my needs. I simply adjust to get the right consistency of foam that I want.
Super Clean or Spray Nine? Also, can both be used on dark color paint?
Yes they both can be used on dark colors. Remember to dilute them at least 1:10 and never let the dry. Just 30 seconds or less is all it needs.
@@MirandaDetailing Thank you so much for the reply!! Ok I will dilute accordingly. Using that product in that initial step gives really great results! Thanks again!

Dude it's funny your wife called that a vince vaughn rant...lol my wife has always said you reminder her of him everything I watch you. I guess it's not the first time you heard that then.
🤣 I’ve had a few people say that. She always makes fun of me when I go on a rank! 🤣
After following your washing instructions, my plan is to use the NSP 45 to polish my car My question is should I use a panel wipe before the NSP 45
Hi. No you don’t need to use a panel wipe before polishing. We never do.
@@MirandaDetailing Another question, does the NSP always ghost up, I like the gloss and shine some of the other polishes have. Is applying a coating the only way to get rid of the ghosting?
@mptobler1 Hi. Well the NSP polishes are formulated to be used with coatings only. They are not like other polishes. If you’re going to use a coating then use the NSP polishes and realize that it will leave that minor residue until it’s coated. If you’re going to use a wax or sealant then don’t use the NSP polishes. Use whatever polishes you enjoy.
The "problem" some "detailers" have with you is that you tell it how it is and don't buy into the hype/detailing "Flavor of the Day," or feel that you have to do what others do and hardline the myth that "You have to do each step every time, on every car, or your results will not equal perfection."
My first "teacher" was like that and he had a DEFINITE 5 step process (developed for SINGE-STAGE paint), that REQUIRED a heavy compounding on EVERY car. Even though I turned into an OCD 'perfectionist.' I disagreed with him, ESPECIALLY on BC/CC paints (which at that time, were just becoming common), and after he started burning through edges (which he REFUSED to contribute to HIS process), I quit the shop, because he refused to change with the times and I KNEW he would eventually blame me, if/when a customer noticed.
These days, the heaviest "cut" I use on over 90% of the cars I detail for others, is a one-step cleaner wax, with either a Lake Country orange pad, or a urofiber 50/50 pad - depending on how swirled the paint on that particular car is. That's not to say I WON'T use a rotary polisher or an actual compound & a urofiber pad (my "Go To" is TW 1 & Done), but I ALWAYS START with the LC orange and TW - Ceramic Polish & Wax, because in MOST cases, a solid polishing with that combo WILL provide the results "I" am looking for - which nearly 10 out of 10 times are results that go beyond the "customers" desired end result.
And I LOVE the longer videos you've decided to 'go back to.'
Hi. That’s an awesome experience! Goes to show how some people refuse to change and blame others for the deficiencies. Good for you man!!
Thanks for sharing! 😎👍🏼
So where is the 2nd part of video
You have to wait until til next Sunday. Subscribe and welcome aboard!
If the part of the process is to iron decon and clay, why don't use DIY's method and save chemicals?
I do sometimes. But it’s not always needed. I only do those processes if and when needed. But what do you mean by saving chemicals?
they use their iron remover as clay lube. So they spread their iron remover with the clay cloth and clay at the same time. They get their bleading and use maybe 10% of normal spray and rinse method. Just asking since you said you use more chemicals this way you did today. So maybe their method can reduce some use of chemicals for you?
@lazyjacket oh I see what you mean. Yeah I have seen before. That’s a good method. I sometimes do that. Blot just depends on how bad the vehicle is b
So it is a kind of wash-clay-wax service , but instead if wax you used a ceramic coat product. Great video
Not exactly…it more than that. But some detailers may see it as otherwise.
"Is that a vince vaughn rant?" 🤣
🤣👍🏼
So if you were to polish this new or a close to new car. What polish/pad would you use for polishing?
Hi. For our Ceramic Coating services we use a primer polish from Dr Bealseys.
Check out this video where I explain
th-cam.com/video/qLd-0QajCn8/w-d-xo.html
Do a DEEP dive on the Dr's B stuff
Oh I will. I must have at least a hundred videos over the past 2 years about the NSP polishes. For some reason my channel doesn’t get many views, so tons of people miss those videos. Search “ceramic coatings” or “NSP” on our channel and you will see tons of videos where we use them.
whenever i need to remove wax off my truck, I take it to one of the coin-op car washes here in town, and hit it with that green shit they have marked Tire/Wheel cleaner. Not sure what all chemical that is, but its E F F E C T I V E AF
Love these long videos 📝 lol
Thanks! More to come!
I love the degreaser presoak. But what's safer on metals than Super Clean, while still being affordable, foamable, and effective? Dawn. I probably get just as much flack for saying it than you get for using Super Clean, and it's going to take a lot of effort to dispel the internet myths surrounding these solutions.
Hi.
That’s fine. You can use whatever you want. I really don’t care what other people say about using super clean anymore. I have been using it or many years with success and no issues at all. The problem comes down to how and when to use it. Any chemical used at the wrong time and in the wrong way can have issues. Even dawn, if left to dry on certain surfaces, it could stain. I always encourage Detailers to use what works for them and stop listening to ever little silly myth and controversy out there about certain products. Use what you like and what works for you 😎👍🏼
@@MirandaDetailingagreed!
Common sense goes along way. And they're sure is a lot of common sense in this video!! 👍🏼🇨🇦

I’ve heard you shouldn’t use super clean when detailing , just what I here all the time
Yeah I’ve heard that too over the years. But we have been using it for years with no issues. Really it comes down to using common sense and understating how to use it. We don’t really use it on the interior, only on small spot stain removal.
