    Great video Pan! I do have a question though, do you think that leaving the products sitting on the paint longer, that it would have accelerated the breakdown?

    I think these coatings are great! I only found one thing (by accident) that can damage a coating - wheel and tire cleaner (strong commercial grade). I inadvertently splashed some on my own coated vehicle and found it an hour later. There were dull spots on the finish that I couldn't remove chemically. I went to the compound and pad to remove the coating mechanically and re-applied. Thank you for the realistic demonstration :) I think dwell time is a big factor - longer dwell more reduction in coating function.

    Thanks Pan for giving an actual clear answer to the question! A lot of detailers leave us with more questions than answers in the end of their videos. If you can answer me question I will really appreciate it. Does an old wax that has remained on the car for 3-4 months needs to be removed with some process before you apply a new wax? They say that when you apply a second coat of wax you also remove the old one, so my understanding is I can wax my car every month if I wanted without using any process like special shampoos that claim this result. I also was very proud when I found out that you are Greek!

    • @PanTheOrganizer

      For waxes you don’t have to remove the previous coat. You just layer.

    • @todtalk3912
      @todtalk3912 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you want to remove the old wax, there are what is called strip washes which help break down those waxes and sealants, they wouldn't do anything on this paint, and then when your rinsing car, keep an eye what it looked like when you did your pre rinse and see what it looks like after you strip wash to guage where your at. Also, you need to use only the strip wash because a lot of washes now have some sort of protection built into them, so if your looking to remove the old wax remember you dont wanna add new wax, even goes for clay bar, if your using a detail spray (which all clay lubes are basically a detail spray, you can do this on the cheap with many products, you might wanna re wash the vehicle again with the strip wash and be certain none of the detail spray adhered to the paint.

    • @PanTheOrganizer

      If you have zero water beading left and very slow water sheeting after your polishing steps, that's a visual indicator that there is most likely no protection left.

    • @SIat
      @SIat 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No consumer grade coating will survive polishing or wet sanding. A professional grade 5+ year coating might, but that’s it. I hand polished a spot on my hood a month after applying cquartz and it completely removed it in that spot. But to answer your question after you polish just use an IPA wipe down and if it’s super slick then there might be ‘some’ protection left but if it’s a little grippy then there’s nothing there. If you rinse that panel and see zero beading or sheeting that’s also another way to tell

    No matter what I need to do, know, see or buy in the world of detailing, Pan has a video explanation.
    So if you have to resort to mechanical means to remove a coating, how do you know when you've polished enough to remove the coating without taking any clearcoat? Also, what happens if you polish a coating but it's not gone and you apply a new coating? Some of the new graphene coatings say they'll stick to anything. I'm redoing a CQuartz UK 2.0. I have Ethos graphene for one car and Adams Graphene for another.

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those are very hard to answer questions. You know you have removed the protection when the paint isn't beading water anymore and when the water sheeting is very slow and flat. But it's almost impossible to just remove the coating, you will be removing a bit of clear coat as well, which is normal, as you are essentially doing paint correction. It would be ideal if you have a paint thickness measurement BEFORE applying the coating, and then get readings as you are going through the compound and polishing steps and take measurements to see how many mils you are removing. But that's a bit over the top. I wouldn't worry too much with that. You wouldn't be doing this very often anyways, as most coatings these days last 2+ years.

Fast forward to 90 days since applied, I noticed the other day in the sunlight a few streaks in the application. Why did I not see that before? Good question, simple answer is, I do not drive the vehicle that much. But now that I noticed it, I reached out to the installer and guess what, they are no longer located in IL and are now in Arizona. So, back to the question I have to ask, can I reapply another layer of the coating or, do I have to wait years before applying again?

      Thanks for the kind words Isabel. Welcome to my channel. You discovered one of the biggest car detailing channels on TH-cam as we surpassed 920,000 subscribers and we have over 120 million views! I have been detailing for 26 years and I love to share my knowledge and passion with my viewers.
      You found the right channel to help you learn everything about detailing.
      I'm not sure what you do to "dust off" your car, but please don't use those dry dusters, or dry wiping with a towel. The best is to always wash the car. If you only have a very light layer of dust and don't want to wash, use a good quick detail spray and a plush towel and spray the surface, and gently wipe. You wouldn't want to cause scratches or swirls in the paint by dry rubbing.
      For your second question, you have passed the window to apply the 2nd layer. When applying the coating, you apply the first coat, wait 45-60 min, and then apply the second coat. And you have to let it cure for 48 hours before exposing the vehicle to water or rain, and wait at least 2 weeks before washing the car again.
      In your case, many weeks have past since your initial application, so at this point, it's unsure if a second layer would bond properly. What you could do is fully wash the vehicle. Dry it. Use the paint prep spray to wipe the surface free of any oils or residue. And then apply a new layer. Don't forget you have to let that cure for 48 hours without rain, and then again wait 2 weeks before washing your car again.

      Hydrophobics are really the only visual indicator. That plus the expected lifespan of the coating you bought. Say you bought CQuartz UK 3.0. If you applied the 2 layers correctly, it should last up to 2 years. So after 22 months (getting near the 24 months durability claim), it would be a good idea to do all the steps all over again, including machine polishing, and start fresh.

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks Jay! To answer your questions...
      1) Not necessary. I would simply do a wash, iron remover, claybar, and start the polishing process.
      2) To revive and deep cleaning a coated car, at least once every 6 months, you should wash the car, use a tar remover followed by an iron remover.
      Watch my 1 year update video on my coated car: th-cam.com/video/ud4wGakuSWs/w-d-xo.html

I think it’s virtually impossible to ensure all the old coating is gone, and I would hate to see the new coating failing early if the old coat prevented proper adhesion. • @PanTheOrganizer

      As it's impossible for most to confirm 100% removal, you have to do your best with the polishing stages. Confirm your work after compound and polish by washing the car, and then IPA wipe. Then wet the surface. There should be slow sheeting and zero water beading.

    I just watched your video and have two questions. I’m a 58 year old woman so I have about as much knowledge in car detailing as a bug. I purchased a new BMW one month ago (Nov. 2022) and immediately discovered that ceramic coating would be great to pursue for my new bimmer. A local car detailer applied the SystemX Crystal SS system. Can you offer a review of that system? It looks shiny and great but the beading properties just don’t behave as well as I’ve seen on just a good wax job on previous vehicles.
    Also.. I see water spots (mainly on the hood) and have listened to so many different opinions on how to remove them. I’m completely confused as to which route to take. Before watching any videos, I unknowingly just used a soft microfiber slightly dampened cloth and rubbed fairly aggressively. It did a decent job in removing but now I’m afraid that I’ve damaged the coating. Can you recommend a different way or product that would not scratch or damage the CC?

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Hope! I have never used SystemX unfortunately. Not sure it's as good as top tier coating brands, as I would have heard of it more from trusted sources. Reliable coating brands are like CarPro, Gyeon, Gtechniq, DuraSlic, Opti-Coat, etc.
      Never rub the paint too hard. That's a big no no. To remove water spots from a coating, you need a water spot remover (assuming the water spots haven't been there for too long, as they can eventually etch through the clear coat and cause permanent damage). Here's a link to a good water spot remover: bit.ly/3BRsswC
      Wash the car, rinse it, then you use the water spot remover.
      Regular washing is key to keeping water spots under control, and using a drying aid/topper after your washes is also important.
      To prevent 100% of water spots when you wash, you can also consider installing a simple water deionizer system like I have. See my video: th-cam.com/video/IKNL1chAQXY/w-d-xo.html

    Bonjour Pan. Lorsqu’on utilise la polisseuse à double action avec un compound, comment savoir si la céramique est toute enlevée sans aller trop loin et endommager la couche de vernis? S’il reste de la céramique, la nouvelle couche ne tiendra pas. Merci de tes excellentes vidéos.

    • @PanTheOrganizer

      Il n'y a malheureusement pas de réponse magique. Il faut tester. Donc on fait une passe de compound, on fait une passe de polissage, et on gicle de l'eau sur la carrosserie. Si l'eau ne forme pas de billes et qu'elle est très lente à fuire le panneau, c'est qu'il n'y a plus de protection.

Hi Pan, I had ceramic coated my can and now want to put a hood scoop on the bonnet , do I need to remove the ceramic coating first before fixing it with a 3m tape, or just cleaning the area with alcohol will do. Which is the best way to complete this project successfully.
    Thanks
    Babs

    • @PanTheOrganizer

      I am unsure of what your question is exactly. If you are adding a hood scoop, I'm guessing you will be cutting a section of the hood off, to let air through, so what does that have to do with the ceramic coating?

      My question is this, I want to fix an after market fiber/ carbon fiber hood scoop with 3 m double sided tape. Can I just clean the affected area with alcohol and stick the scoop on the hood or is there a better way to do this project successfully. Will appreciate you advice .
      Thanks

    Don'y know why I missed this one but very happy I found it because that's exactly the subject I'm most concerned about. This leads me to a question I have for you Pan. I have applied Optimum Gloss-Coat in May 2019 and I want to apply another product this time. Since this product is supposed to last 2 years and we are getting very close to that time frame, do you think using let's say Super Clean to remove it would work or I really have no choice but to use a polisher?

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope. Machine polishing is still the only way to ensure 100% removal of any previous coating even if it's in its final days.

    Hey Pan. Great video. Answered my question. After a wash should ceramic coating be slick? Or do I need to apply a sealant?

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All coatings are slick to some extent, as they are hydrophobic to help repel water and create those nice water beads and generate awesome water sheeting, to help with drying the car and reducing chances of water spotting. That being said, it's always a good idea to boost gloss and slickness with a compatible product (not regular waxes or paint sealants) like compatible drying aids or silica spray sealants.
      One product that I love using as a drying aid on top of my coated car is Bead Maker. I reviewed it here: th-cam.com/video/J7uc4AlarpU/w-d-xo.html

    Will isopropyl alcohol harm or remove ceramic coatings? I ask because I'm putting a carbon lip spoiler and they say to clean/prep the surface for the adhesive strips to work. Would rubbing alcohol harm the coating or should I use something else to prep it??? Thanks

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A coating prep from a reputable coating brand won’t hurt a ceramic coating as long as you have a true ceramic coating (glass bottle) installed. And it’s not something you would do every day so no worries.
      Good preps are CarPro Eraser, McKee’s 37 Coating Prep, Gyeon Prep and Optimum Paint Prep.

    Hi Pan thanks for the video... We do commercial vehicle wraps and have a fleet of high roof promasters that have been soaked in either amoral or maybe an upgraded version of amoral with maybe some type of coating protection. Plastics, handles, substrates. What do you recommend with the products you used on this demo? I dont think they put a ceramic pro type of protection like your car but the stuff is not coming off

    Great video , so what really safe product works to remove sealants , wax ?

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's always a debate. If you just applied a fresh wax and sealant, even chemicals might not fully remove those, so you would still need to machine polish them off. But as waxes and sealants don't need a perfectly clean clear coat to bond to, you can simply wash your car, dry it, and reapply a fresh layer of sealant or wax.
      Fully stripping the paint is only crucial before applying ceramic or graphene coatings.

    Hi Pan! I hope you can review all the tac system product line up. Cz, I am a little confused choosing between carpro or tac system. Carpro and tac system have a difference of 5.37 USD (75,000 in IDR) from their chemical decontamination product. Of course they are quite expensive for me. With more of your experience, and your product explanation is very easy for me to understand, i hope that i can watch your video as soon as possible...

      On its own no. But you don't clay a ceramic coating as you could damage it.

    Great video and a super nice car to try and trash 🤣🤣 My car has never been ceramic coated. I did have a 1step paint correction done last June. The guy did put on a spray on paint sealant. After watching a ton of your videos, I purchased some Avalon King ceramic coating. I have kept up the shine with Turtle Wax Seal and Shine. I have purchased a bottle of Turtle Wax one and done. Could you please tell me if the one and done will do the job with a DA orbital polisher? If so, would my next steps be 1. Clay 2. Iron remover 3. IPA? Please let me know if I have missed any steps. Thanks so much for your great channel, Paul

      Yes 1 & Done will do a good job of removing the previous protection, removing light to medium swirls and scratches and oxidation, leaving a nice flat surface and glossy surface to work with. Of course, follow all the prep steps in my AvalonKing tutorial here: th-cam.com/video/Rgli6VNLsK4/w-d-xo.html

    I notice that on the intro of the video you've a little blue bottle, I remember my sister gave my mom a bottle or two to put the "nano ceramic wax." But whoever waxed it, it looks terrible, I guess it took on deposits of dirt, water, grime, and ever since it was new, her car paint looks really bad. I tried applying directly something like the larger purple spray bottle and using a gentle scrub (there are places on the car that just look like wax sap), but it doesn't get rid of it. Will polishing still work? Thank you in advance.

    Is there any ceramic coating issue to consider if you have body work done, say repainting a fender on a black car? Will this make it more difficult to end up with all panels matching the way they used to?

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not a body shop expert, but one thing I do know is that if your car is ceramic coated, and you need body work done, make sure you tell the body shop that your car is ceramic coated, as they need to know in order to adjust their procedures accordingly.

    Hey Pan...if you don't mind i have another unrelated question: after a Ceramic coating (AvalonKing) i'm noticing water spots that are a real pain to remove from a warm/hot area of the car when it was washed - is there something i can use to help remove them

    • @PanTheOrganizer

      Hmm. You must have hard water issues where you live. Did you wash in direct sunlight? Did you wait at least one full week after the coating was applied before you washed your car?
      I have a water spot removal tutorial here: th-cam.com/video/s1XNKFVSwRk/w-d-xo.html

    Hi Pan, I have a 1 month old Mazda cx9 that had a dealer applied product called "resistall ng2" on it already. No where does it say what is the coating comprised of or how was it applied; was it sprayed on? Which is what I suspect, is it a wax, ceramic or graphene. If it was just a spray ceramic, does that make it easy to remove with a very light polish. Or is the product worth maintaining it with all the Adam graphene products that I bought ,since I was going to apply the Adams graphene advanced coating.
