This is good. But the period where Mafex released X-Force Wolverine and Deadpool, X-Men Storm, X-Factor Cyclops almost all together at the end of April 2023 and then Nightwing and Steel mid May 2023 was a 6 hit knockout combo for my wallet and collection. And they bookended that with Huntress the month before and with Magneto the month after. Epic release schedule.
It's for sure the definitive Captain America figure. I'll probably still get the Secret Wars one, but only to keep on card and display as wall art. Those figures from '84 were my introduction into the world of Marvel.
Got it, and it's amazing! Promo pics didn't do it justice! I added the pouch & shield from the select cap, and it's amazing. DEFINITELY figure of the year!
Huh? Most people literally don’t have this in hand yet, are you expecting everyone to praise it when they haven’t even handled it yet? The ones who handled it say it’s great. How is this “already underrated”
Not that that's much of a compliment lol, but I know what you mean. Yeah man, ever since gettin' mine Monday, I've been excited for Wade to review his favourite comic book character.
I just opened mine today and agree it is WAY more impressive in hand than the preview images seemed to suggest. I still prefer the more modern take of thicker waist stripes on the costume, but everything else on this figure is great and definitely makes me think it could replace my ML Caps overall if I need to clear out more figures from my collection.
Anthony Custom did point out on Female figures that if you make a diaphragm cut right underneath the chest, it's not gonna have much range because the chest gonna block the movement forward. That's why I think most companies usually do the diaphragm cut at the rib cage for more range.
AC always has a lot to complain about. I stopped watching once I realised he made me hate figures I was originally happy with. He has too many nitpicks
Anthony's customs can't even measure a figure, He claims he is an expert while he is not. All his opinions about anatomy are wrong. He simply doesn't know what he is talking about. His headsculpts look like squished clay. The only reason he got followers is the negative content. People love negative content, conspiracy theories etc. He is the worst reviewer.
I love this Captain America. He has the articulation I've been wanting for Cap for years. The promo images did this figure no justice at all! My only gripe is that he has no saluting hands. I don't really need another classic Cap now. Hoping DD turns out this good.
It’s amazing how the promo pics for this comic Mafex Cap were okay at best in my opinion, but the actual figure is absolutely fantastic looking, Mafex have really given us a great comic Cap
Great Review as always. And you know, it is very honest of you saying you may be bias. Not everyone does that. It just makes me trust more in your reviews. Now I have to deal with this FOMO! Hahaha.
I don't like the peg hole in the back of the Legends Cap right in the middle of the Star. Mafex did it right with the shield actually being worn on the back, so the sculp and star on the back are clean.
Awesome review brother!!! Ngl I believe the reason for them not implementing the boot swivel is most likely due to joint redundancy imo. Mostly because the joint at the ankel already does the job of a boot swivel that it would probably be redundant imo atleast. Overall great figure and I cant wait to see the battle of the Cap on who is the best cap. Ngl imo its most likely gonna come down to Mafex Caps and Diamond select cap, but thats just my prediction 😂😂😂
I've been waiting to see you review this figure Wade! As a fellow Captain America fan, I finally got this figure myself and I'm very happy. Personally, I (respectfully) don't think it's necessarily the home run that others seem to, but I think there are a lot of interesting things to talk about with this figure. As an admitted Silver Age fanboy, I love how much this figure oozes "1960s Marvel" charm. Everything from the multiple thin torso stripes, the darker blue on the shield, and the black eyebrows scream "Jack Kirby". Subjectively though, I would have preferred more paint detail on the scale mail like we see on the Marvel Legends 20th Anniversary Captain America figure; each individual scale on that figure's chest has a paint wash, and I think this Mafex Cap would look so good with that kind of paint scheme This is a Mafex figure, so the articulation is pretty much as glorious as we all expected. I think the proportions on this figure look really good too! As a pretty big comic book fan, I do think that the notion of "superhero proportions" is a rather simplistic way of looking at comic book art. That's not to say it's an invalid way of analyzing the art seen in the medium, but there are people who act like it's a hard and fast rule despite the variety in styles different artists implement, so that sort of rigidity is very myopic (IMO at least). With all that being said though, I do prefer the general look of "superhero proportions" on a character like Captain America. Captain America is supposed to represent the unrealistic but hypothetical peak of human conditioning, so I think the exaggerated "V shape" is very fitting for the character and looks amazing here With regard to the unmasked head, I think I would side with Hasbro over Mafex. If you're somebody who wants complete comic accuracy, then I can definitely see siding with the Mafex head, But I personally really like the pseudo-realistic approach that Hasbro takes with their unmasked heads. I've heard some people argue that this makes the Hasbro figures look more like people in cosplay than fictional characters, but I personally really love Hasbro's approach as I feel like it brings these fictional characters to life (IMO at least) With all that being said, this is my new favorite Captain America figure in my collection. The Marvel Legends Captain America still holds up very nicely, so while I don't personally agree at all with people who act like this figure absolutely trashes that figure, I do think this is undeniably the superior figure (which it should be at this price point). So for me, it definitely goes: Mafex Cap > Marvel Legends Cap > Marvel Select Cap (super hot take: I really don't like that Marvel Select Cap lol)
Not done with the vid so I don’t know if you figured it out by the end, but there’s a little cutout in the plastic bit for the shield holding hand. You’re supposed to push the shield into that cutout and it’ll be more secure. BUT it may mess up the paint on the shield so be careful. Also not a fan of this set up lol
Another banger by Mafex Bane still got my vote for figure of the year. Daredevil is eagerly awaited. I purposely avoided hasbro s paywall behind this A-list character.
Fantastic review as always! Figure looks fantastic. Mine’s stuck in transit, so just hope it makes it here in the end, as i don’t want to miss this one.
I think it's a great figure, the paint is still something that is default flat for Mafex so I am not complaining it. I'd prefer some more head expressions (a screaming one) for the price point that Mafex demands. The shield straps are done weird, the bands keeps on changing size, ok we can accept it, but then it also gets displaced to the middle for the shorter ones. Also my preference was towards the 3 red lines costume compared to this one.
Took me a minute to figure out what you meant by _'the paint being default flat',_ but I get it now. Mafex tends to go simplified and soft with the sculpting details. So not a whole lot that can be done regarding paint when a face lacks wrinkles and creases...but definitely with doing a dry brush or wash to bring out the chainmail look. With intricate details and paint apps, they fall somewhere in the middle between ToyBiz Legends and Hasbro Legends. Sometimes looking like a basic anime character, other times like they leaped _straight_ out of a comic panel. Then sometimes (like with Cap), they make me feel like I'm 40 years younger and holding an _amazing_ toy I just got at the store.
Looks really good, but the bunch of smaller stripes makes him look more like the 50s Cap, which, hey, just means he can stay on the shelf with the 20th. I'd like to see them do an old-school Bucky that fits with this, too.
Hey man! Saw your review on Daredevil, nice work! I use a Fuji SX 20. But honestly, that’s probably overkill, I just like Fuji cameras a lot. If you’re trying to upgrade from just a cell phone or something, I would look at a canon, T5 or T6.
@@UnparalleledUniverse thanks. You’re going to love that DD. I have a Sony DSLR but haven’t used for my reviews. Maybe I’ll try it with my Batman later this month. Thanks again.
To each their own I’m happy with my 20th anniversary legends version. I’m also getting the secret wars one. I don’t like the lanky build and the pale blue. 🤷♂️
Heard a few Hasbro fan boys hating on this when it was first announced. I ignored them. Glad I did and always do. Looks awesome. Cant wait dor this and DD to ship
Dang it. Passed because the promo pics made him look pale, sickly and small. Still will wait for BBTS to put him on sale someday in the future :) Thor is super tiny and mine has a terrible weak right shoulder joint. But on a flight stand he still works well enough. Bane showed me they CAN make bigger figures so I am hoping for a bomb ass Colossus someday.
I still remember the great convo you have with Ryan Ting. You discussed how legends could be the best ever. I bet we eventually get that as a contender
if i was to critique anything id say the legs may be a touch too long and skinny. not enough to take away from the rest though. definitely an awesome figure and a great review man! good stuff
The only thing that would have made this figure the ultimate Captain America is if Mafex took a page out of Diamond Select’s book and gave us the belt with the pouches. I’m the type of guy who likes a completely kitted out Captain America.
I don't love a light blue Cap , so in happy enough with the legends 20th anniversary Cap. I'll pay 25 to get that but I'm not will to shell out Mafex money unless I love it. If they decide to make a modern, Civil War/Alex Ross design with the dark navy color, the fatter stripes, and bring down that chainmail a bit, then I'll be all over that and I hope they do it. For now, I'm happy with what I got.
Was afraid to see this figure cause just can’t be affording a Mafex rt now, really was hoping the legends cap would be my main cap but this does look sweet. Only thing I can knock it on is it’s just way to clean. Need more of a wash on it to bring out all the sculpture
When was the last time you did a figure comparison? If you find the time a showdown between this, the ML 20th Cap, and the Select would be fire! Unless you want to wait for the Mezco, but you know how that can go. lol
I got this figure and he’s great, but unfortunately mine did come with a defective issue with the left leg being extremely loose at the thigh swivel and the ball hinge itself being too tight. For the price point, I don’t think MAFEX should come with any quality control issues.
Calm yourself a bit 😂😂😂. Glad you liked it haha I’m honestly more excited for DD 😂. Definitely a great piece 🔪🔪🔪. I think a casting cave head will bring this to the next level❤❤❤
He's a great figure! Would you have wanted them to shade the forehead like the Select figure? In my mind, The Thor/Cap and Iron Man are closer to their 70s comic looks done by Art Adams. He drew them smaller and skinnier and mostly all the same size back then. I image the Thor as even a First Appearance Thor who was mad skinny.
Thor and Cap are based on their 60s looks as depicted by king Kirby, Thor was drawn as being the same hgt as Cap. & Ironman. Wasn't till early 70s that they shot Thor up to his current hgt of 6'6. Hopefully Mafex redoes Thor at a slightly bigger hgt than Cap and Ironman.
Man, Mezco figured out the most simple and easy shield securing method with magnets all the way back in 2016 with their original Captain America figures. Mafex has experience with magnets in their figures too (Spiderman, Venom). It still baffles me why company’s still make shield accessories so finicky and un-fun to play with
Have you seen the Joy Man Toys American Soul War Hero Captain A figure? Basically an unlicensed third party Captain America figure with soft goods and guns. Looks leagues better than anything Mezco has done imo.
I think the skin tone is okay but the eyebrows on the unmasked head are awful. The figure is good in general tho. The Daredevil looks to be the better release tho
@@davidv7587Yeah. I waited until Kaiju Daddy's hands on video of the Daredevil figure a few days ago at the Medicom store before I ordered it. The dark wash really adds an extra dimension to it. Medicom needs to put more effort in their promotional shots.
Excellent review! Maaan yea looks pretty damn solid, Id say 8/10. Idk if I will end up with it but I'm a fan. I do think mafex needs to either sculpt their thighs and upper part of their legs longer and shorten the bottom half of the leg just the sliiiightest bit. But yeah I just picked up the classic Magneto at the comic shop, 99 bucks paid with stored credit- BAM, felt good about that deal. Overall loving the figure too,
I thought he may be too small, but the stats show him at 6'2" 220. Thor and Iron-Man (in his suit) are both 6'6" so I guess it works if you use the Marvel Legends one. But, for toy photography, you can always fudge proportion using perspective.
I love this figure but to me the shield holding hands are a disappointment. I have the MCU mafex stealth suit and he can hold that shield so it doesn’t slip out of his hand even if his arm is resting on down. Also I think that a Captain America should have a saluting hand which maybe Karate chop style hands would’ve been nice. Other than that this is my definitive 1/12 Captain America.

I just put in a order now this figure is going up fast I knew that woild happen
I think it’s gone BBTS now, got my order in before luckily.
Guess it’s time to change the intro again 🤷🏻
Gotta add it in at least. Wouldn't be right removing the 20th one. But add this and the face off cap in the intro forsure
this and their daredevil back to back is gonna be a generational drop
Yessssss! Can’t wait for Daredevil! Should have him soon.
I literally cannot decide which one I’m more excited for, their both going to be peak

This figure is hands down my favorite 6” Captain America figure in a long time. I like it so much I canceled my Secret Wars Captain America
It's for sure the definitive Captain America figure. I'll probably still get the Secret Wars one, but only to keep on card and display as wall art. Those figures from '84 were my introduction into the world of Marvel.
I got this one and kept my Secret Wars order only for the broken shield.
Got it, and it's amazing! Promo pics didn't do it justice! I added the pouch & shield from the select cap, and it's amazing. DEFINITELY figure of the year!
It's crazy the promo pic on the package still shows that huge gap on the mold. But love this Cap

Height wise, to go way back silver age height chart size, hulk, Thor and iron man were once listed all at the same height of six foot six inches.

Same. I'm not hurt about it, but I'm not going to deny this the best cap out. Simple head swap could elevate this ALOT
He’s not going on sale. He’s sold out everywhere but bbts and price is going up
They should make a Mafex hulk I don’t know how but they should

My favorite Cap! I almost skipped this one because I wasn't crazy about the promo pics. I'd like a WW2 Bucky and a 1970s Falcon!
This figure turned out way better than I thought it would, and I already liked it. But looking at it here, I love it. Can't wait to get my copy.

mafex would go crazy doing villians. ( im a mafex glazer)
I feel like the stripes go up too high. They definitely should have just done blue down to where the cut is. It would look a lot better.
Mafex Thor was the reason why i didn't Pre Order Mafex Capt, but seeing review here, i'm regret for not pre order it 🤧
Marvel legends Thor is scaled correctly with mafex cap. Thor is is 6’7 and cap is 6’1
Thor is 6'6, Cap is 6'2
U said the same thing about that mrvl select cap and 20th cap get it together man!!
That’s why I DIDNT say it this time haha. I held back. Give me some credit!
An Alex Kline head is a NECESSITY for the Marvel Legends Cap!

I do think mafex needs to either sculpt their thighs and upper part of their legs longer
and shorten the bottom half of the leg just the sliiiightest bit. But yeah I just picked up
the classic Magneto at the comic shop, 99 bucks paid with stored credit- BAM, felt good about that deal.
Overall loving the figure too,
I thought he may be too small, but the stats show him at 6'2" 220. Thor and Iron-Man (in his suit) are both 6'6" so I guess it works if you use the Marvel Legends one. But, for toy photography, you can always fudge proportion using perspective.
What did you use to fix the waist popping out? Did you drill it?
Great figure. He’s still a little too pale. I’m also having the same issue where the waist keeps popping off
Japan does it again!
I'm new to action figures. What's the difference between Mafex & Diamond Select? Quality and price wise
I like that the shield has kind of a round shape some are mainly just flat
I would buy him but I'm happy with my ML Cap.
Nothing wrong with that. The legends cap is awesome
This does look great but after a disappointing Thor and an Iron Man with a $40 accessory it really killed my desire to get more Avengers.
The only thing he probably need would be a red white and blue bike
I love this figure but to me the shield holding hands are a disappointment. I have the MCU mafex stealth suit and he can hold that shield so it doesn’t slip out of his hand even if his arm is resting on down. Also I think that a Captain America should have a saluting hand which maybe Karate chop style hands would’ve been nice. Other than that this is my definitive 1/12 Captain America.
