  • We used a 50/50 mix of used waste oil and diesel to stain the wood siding on the garage with some very nice results. this was a total of less than $20 to do a full coverage with some left over material.

as a retired paint gun slinger , I would suggest not letting up on the trigger until your out of material , the stop start will leave some spot heaver in product transfer , I know that you are not shooting auto paint , but it is best practice , as a mentor once told me "do the long walk "

I built a small barn to milk the cow and store hay. The siding is fence pickets. I used a 50:50 mix applied with a pump up sprayer. It looks fantastic! No smell, dry to the touch and way cheaper than stain. Old farmers have used the 50:50 mix for many years to coat their fence posts. The posts last decades as opposed to setting them uncoated and rotting at ground level in five years.

Years ago, I used reclaimed lumber that was already 40 years old that was used for a carport roof. Once I turned the
lumber into steps and a stoop for an entrance, I then used old motor oil to protect it from burrowing insects and to
preserve any life that the wood could provide. First off, I used the lumber and corrugated aluminum for skirting on
the backside of my Mom's mobile home surely because she ran out of funds to finish her project. Once the backside
was finished, I then utilized the remaining lumber to construct steps and a platform with decking from planks and
purposely run the decking diagonally to insure sufficient stability and strength. The stoop, stairs and decking was
absolutely strong enough such as it could ever be. Once that project was nearly complete, the heavy rains were
supposed to come and so the oil treatment came forth just in the nick of time, because I didn't want my efforts
of construction to be in vain! Even the underpinning supports that support the aluminum panels were also coated
and so here it is some 30 years later now and the project did hold up well for that backside of the trailer, although
now, it's called start over and do it again because of the eventual rotting that took place at the very base of the
underpinning structural lumber. It's all because of the lateral base sitting on concrete. Coating with a brush is very
cumbersome since I did not own a compressor and spray gun, but hey, the project went into high gear and my Mom
was well pleased that it didn't hardly cost her a thing, other than electricity to run my circular saw! I did have to go
ahead and purchase 2- 4"x4"x 8' and about 200 deck screws and about 8 lbs of nails to getter done on my own but
I know that I was all in on this project. My Son even pitched in for about 3 hours worth to give me a hand and it was
all good, every last bit of it and it was done still at a safety standard as well!!

It soaks into the wood. It repels the water away from it. And if you’re very easy when spraying there will be little to none that gets on the ground.
