This is like asking , would you rather take a bus or drive a car ? One does it for you, the other you are in control of. Depends on what you are after. And how you want to practice an art. The same way you are painting in the video... you can physically do it, as well as do the SAME THING on a Computer.. you will choose the medium depending on what YOU want to do, and how YOU want to go about achieving it.
Very well said! That is a great way of looking at it. You should make this video over and have that be the driving message of it 😉 Thanks for the comment, Cheers!
Whenever people ask me what I would choose "an iPhone or a camera" it's always going to be the camera, If you are trying to learn more and become better that will never happen with an iPhone. is the iPhone great? yes... but at the end of the day, you're not going to be shooting weddings on an iPhone if that's your goal you won't be shooting wildlife. the whole idea of taking photos and making videos is to learn and become better. That will never happen with an iPhone And when it comes down to "price vs price" no sign-up deals or anything, For 1200$ you're looking at more than a6000. That puts you in the price range of an r8 with a 50mm "going to blow the iPhone away" Love the video but People should understand what a camera is. It's not something you pack around in your pocket. it's a hobby, it's something that is beyond just a phone.
This is great advice and totally valid! I do have a slightly different perspective on this how ever and again you are totally right. But the Camera that is with you is the best camera to use and if most people only have a phone and they want to start being creative then go for it! Get a light, get a tripod, talk to that phone and post it on TH-cam but if you are trying to be a filmmaker or a professional photographer then yes 100% get a dedicated camera to do that. but for everything else kill that barrier to entry and pull out the old phone and start creating. Thanks so much for the thoughtful comment and the view! Cheers!
I agree with both your comments. I am looking at buying another camera right now but I am also considering a new or newer iPhone (I actually still have the iPhone 7, and I take pretty good photos and videos with it, it’s just not very good in low light and has no zoom). I also agree that the best camera is the camera I have on me. I generally don’t carry my older Canon DSLR T3i around with me anymore and haven’t for a few years.
hey Karl Good video. No nonsense video, looks practical. thanks
Thanks so much! Glad you liked it, and I appreciate the comment. Cheers!
great video thank you- i had a a6000 and now have the 15 pro and i am shocked that i like the 15 pro better despite different lenses i have tried and settings and color correction
Thanks for the comment, Yeah the iPhone is pretty crazy! Such a great piece of tech. Thanks for the comment, Cheers!
Great video sir.. actually i want to make a video to compare phone and a6000 too.. i have a opinion that a6000 combined with sigma fixed lenses will beat any phone camera (based on my amateur experience).
No, I totally agree. I think for someone who has zero video experience besides working with an iPhone is who this video is for. If you know how to use a camera properly you can blow the phone out of the water. Thanks for the comment, Cheers!
Thanks for the video it's amazing. I recently bought a a6000 as a beginner but i wanna get better, i usually take nature, architectural photos and sometimes night shots. I only have the kit lens for now, any budget friendly lens recommendations under $350?
A6000> anytime.
For sure! Thanks for the comment,Cheers!
Hi I have a question and I would rlly appreciate your input. What about the sony a6400 with either the kit lens or the sigma 18-50mm zoom lens vs the iPhone 15 pro? in terms of just photography, I'm not interested in video creation. Is the extra bulk and heft worth it? And could it out perform the iPhone 15 pro or are they similar in performance?
Hi! Great question. When it comes to just photography, both the Sony a6400 and the iPhone 15 Pro have their strengths, but they cater to slightly different needs.
Sony a6400 with Kit Lens or Sigma 18-50mm Zoom Lens:
Image Quality: The a6400 has a larger APS-C sensor compared to the iPhone's smaller sensor, which generally means better image quality, especially in low-light situations. The Sigma 18-50mm lens is known for its sharpness and versatility.
Control: The a6400 offers more manual controls and customization options, allowing for greater creativity and precision in your shots.
Lens Flexibility: You can switch lenses on the a6400, which can be a significant advantage if you want to explore different types of photography (e.g., macro, telephoto).
iPhone 15 Pro:
Convenience: The iPhone 15 Pro is much more portable and always with you, making it incredibly convenient for spontaneous photography.
Computational Photography: It uses advanced computational photography techniques to enhance images, which can be great for everyday photography and social media.
Ease of Use: The iPhone's camera app is user-friendly and perfect for quick, high-quality shots without much setup.
Comparison:
Bulk and Heft: The a6400 is definitely bulkier and heavier compared to the iPhone. If you value portability and ease of use, the iPhone 15 Pro might be more appealing.
Performance: In terms of raw image quality, especially in challenging lighting conditions, the a6400 with either lens will likely outperform the iPhone 15 Pro. However, the iPhone 15 Pro is no slouch and can produce excellent images, especially with its advanced software processing.
My Conclusion:
If you’re looking for the best possible image quality and don’t mind carrying a larger camera, the Sony a6400 is a great choice. However, if you prefer convenience and ease of use, the iPhone 15 Pro is a strong contender and can handle most photography needs very well.
Hope this helps!
@@KarlWeinreich I appreciate your response, this definitely will help my decision. Thank you
Do you know if the iPhone 15 pro is significantly better video and photo wise than the iPhone 14 pro, 13 pro, and 12 pro? I think the Filmic pro app will work on iPhones 12 and up?
I am googling and see that iPhone 14 pro will shoot prores RAW. I am also seeing that the iPhone 15 pro can record on an external drive!
Coming from the 12Pro, I can tell you that it is for sure better. Is it worth going out and spending a $1000 if you don't need a new phone? No I don't think it is that great. But if you have a upgrade, or get a good deal sure its better.
The shooting on an external drive is awesome and while I have done it several times. It is bulky and at that point why not just shoot on a camera. But it is a cool feature in a pinch for sure. Thanks for the comments, Cheers!
@@KarlWeinreich thank you for the replies! I’m actually still using an iPhone 7. Replying to you right now on it, and it still works pretty good. I may have to upgrade in 2025. I’ve been doing a lot of research and I am also considering a quality small point and shoot camera because I don’t think I’ll carry a larger camera around with me?
Can’t pull manual focus on iPhone same as dedicated camera with lens which can be a big deal for content creators trying tell a story and shifting viewers attention where desired.
You're right, @warrenrae32. The native Camera app on the iPhone doesn't offer the same manual focus capabilities that dedicated cameras do, which can indeed be a limitation for content creators who want precise control over focus to guide viewers' attention or achieve specific storytelling effects. However, there are workarounds and tools that can help you achieve more control over focus on your iPhone:
Use the AE/AF Lock Feature: While not a manual focus solution, you can use the auto-exposure/auto-focus (AE/AF) lock feature in the native Camera app to lock focus on a specific subject. To do this, simply tap and hold on the part of the screen where your subject is until you see "AE/AF Lock" at the top. This will keep the focus fixed on that point, even if the subject moves slightly.
Third-Party Camera Apps: There are several excellent third-party camera apps available that offer advanced manual controls, including manual focus. Apps like FiLMiC Pro, ProCamera, and Manual are designed to give you DSLR-like control over your iPhone’s camera. These apps allow you to manually adjust focus, exposure, white balance, and more, giving you the creative control needed for storytelling.
External Lens Attachments: Consider using external lens attachments designed for smartphones. Some of these lenses come with manual focus capabilities, allowing you to physically adjust the focus just like you would on a dedicated camera. Brands like Moment and Olloclip offer high-quality lenses that can enhance your iPhone’s camera capabilities.
Focus Pulling Techniques: With apps that allow for manual focus control, you can practice focus pulling-a technique where you change the focus from one subject to another smoothly during a shot to direct the audience's attention. This requires some practice to master, especially on a touchscreen, but it can add a professional touch to your videos.
Plan Your Shots: Given the limitations, planning your shots can make a big difference. You might not always be able to pull focus on the fly as easily as with a dedicated camera, but with thoughtful planning and practice using the tools available, you can achieve the effect you're looking for.
While it's true that an iPhone may not replace a dedicated camera with manual focus capabilities for all situations, these strategies can significantly improve your ability to control focus in your videos, allowing for more creative storytelling.
Thanks for the comment, Cheers!
Come on guys! You are comparing the iPhone 15pro to an A6700 and you say the image quality is great on the A6700 but "depends on lightning". In what lightning situation does the 6700 NOT produce the better image of the two?
If you showed some images side by side (as some other channels have) the differences are actually very significant.
I feel like the biggest question here is "What are you going to do with the photos/videos?". Because anything that is going to just be shared on social media.... The A6700 is massive overkill.
Great points, thanks for them and the comment. Cheers!
The video is with the first generation A6 series not the A6700.
But yeh, possibly still overkill for most people... Unless this is your entry into proper photography over just amature phone use.
If i was in a situation where i could choose between a phone that has just been released + has raw feature and a camera from 2014 that cant be used as a smartphone then i would choose the iphone 15 ofc
Sure iphone is easier to use, but the a6000 output can look better
Thanks for your comment, @razafiarisonmichael4421! You make a great point. The iPhone is definitely user-friendly and convenient, but the Sony a6000 has the potential to deliver superior image quality with the right settings and techniques. It really depends on what you need and how comfortable you are with the camera. Both are great options! Cheers
What was this video shot in? not an iPhone I bet.
The interview style was FX6. But the clips were iPhone and a6000. Thanks for the comment, cheers!
@@KarlWeinreich FX6 looks so much better, but at the extra cost of course.
For sure!
you just gotta hate apple for not letting you turn off that awful HDR look since the iphone 13.
i think my iphone 6 took better pictures than my current iphone 13. the colors are so wrong, there are no shadow areas and everytime the sky looks 10x more blue than it actually is. looks so disgusting. with my iphone 6 or my sony xperia Z5 i had fun taking pictures...
thankfully i have my sony a6000
Here are a few suggestions that might help you get more enjoyment out of your iPhone 13 camera:
1) Check HDR Settings: While it's not possible to completely turn off HDR on some newer iPhones, you can control its use. Dive into your camera settings to see if you can set HDR to manual, allowing you to choose when to use it.
2) Explore ProRAW: The iPhone 13 offers ProRAW for more detailed and adjustable photo capturing. This might give you the flexibility to edit your photos more extensively, letting you adjust the look to be more natural and to your liking.
3) Try Third-Party Apps: There are many excellent camera apps available that offer greater manual control over the photo-taking process, such as exposure, white balance, and ISO settings. Apps like Halide or ProCamera might give you the control you're missing and help you achieve the results you're looking for.
4) Post-Processing: Editing your photos after taking them can also make a big difference. Apps like Adobe Lightroom or VSCO offer powerful tools to adjust colors, contrast, and more, helping you get that perfect look you're after.
It's great that you have your Sony a6000 as well! It's a fantastic camera with a lot of flexibility for those who love photography. Maybe you can use your iPhone 13 for those moments when you don't have your Sony on hand, and with some tweaks and adjustments, find a happy medium for your mobile photography.

You need timestamps bruh
Consider them added 👍 Thanks for the comment!
Me with 1920fps slow motion;-;
Thanks for the comment!
Yeah, no. Cameras on phone are always just a bonus. I buy a smartphone for communication. Just being able to adjust focus on lens wins every time over these smartphones and smartphones 5 years from now. Nope sorry.
And if you're studying, you need to learn what these parameters, focus, aperture, exposure, etc. and you do that best on the real thing.
iphone does NOT support external audio input like a portable audio interface that replaces the microphone of the Iphone. You can’t record videos with better sound quality. On the Sony camera you can. Line out of the audio interface into the mic in of the sony camera and it records with the better audio and synchronization.
@turtlefeet7722 You're right about the iPhone's limitations regarding external audio input, and it's a significant factor for anyone looking to elevate their video production quality. Using a Sony camera with the capability to connect directly to an audio interface does offer a huge advantage for capturing higher quality, synchronized sound directly in-camera. It's a solid point for content creators to consider when choosing their gear, especially if audio quality is a priority. Thanks for highlighting this difference! 🎤📹 Cheers!
This is the dumbest comparison ever. Nobody is choosing between the newest iphone in the market and a 10 year old discontinued camera that was never meant to be a video camera. Does a video like this even need to be made. You already know the outcome. Should be compared to the a6700.
Annnnd this is the dumbest comment ever lol. Thanks for your criticism! The Sony a6000 gets a lot of views still on my channel. And as it may be discontinued you can still pick it up for very cheap, which attracts a lot of people to it. Even if it wasn't "supposed" to be a video camera, the features are there.... So it is a video camera.... I hope your anger towards this video dissipates and what ever is going on in your life to lash out at a TH-cam video gets resolved. Thanks for viewing and commenting though! Only helps my channel grow :) Cheers!
And yet you are here for the dumbest comparison, says alot indeed 😂
