My last pregnancy I exercised every single day and at 37 years old delivered by baby. It was my fifth pregnancy and my best and my recovery was so amazing. I also was back down to my prepregnancy weight 5 weeks after delivery. Now pregnant with number 6 at 42 years old and hoping for another active pregnancy.
@@ayshabegum9515 it’s my understanding that crunches and ab workouts are safe during the first trimester. I believe they are good if you have the energy to strengthen your core for carrying a baby!
This first trimester fatigue has really been rough. I'm 11 weeks and I think about working out and was pretty active before pregnancy but the just thought of working out makes me tired. Hopefully the energy will come back soon my appetite has been coming back this past week and nausea has eased up some which has helped with the energy. I was amazed at how much being nauseous stole my energy.
Thank you so much for this! I experienced an early miscarriage while at the gym several years ago. While the baby was already gone probably a couple of days before that day, it has also scared me so much. But, I love working out and want to stay active and feel safe doing so. This was very comforting for me! Thank you!
Exercise during pregnancy definitely helped me bounce back faster. I'm 13 weeks PP after a c section and I was back to my pre pregnancy body by 6 weeks.

During my first trimester, exercise was out of the question. I usually do HIIT training daily with sometimes ballet and yoga but i was ao exhausted i couldn't get off the sofa. Im starting to get my energy back this week and this video has motivated me to get back into my routine 💪
Congrats on your pregnancy, Dawn! And I feel you 100%! I also did wayyy more naps on the couch during the first trimester than workouts lol. I am glad to hear you are getting your energy back-usually the second trimester is the sweet spot!! Sending vibes for a smooth and healthy rest of your pregnancy!

So glad I found this video! 8 weeks currently and I was so scared to continue working out thinking it was going to give me a possible miscarriage. Thank you for all the very useful information!
I have been working out 6-7 days a week for about 3 years now! I do cardio and weight train. I got pregnant in October of last year and continued working out. I lost her at 16 weeks and so many people said awful things. I got asked "What did you lift?" when I told a family member and people also said it was my fault for working out. This came from people who haven't worked out in 20+ years. Thank you for this video!
I love this! I just found out I’m pregnant and I’ve been a weightlifter for 4 years. I want to make sure I’m still being active and healthy but also not doing too much or the wrong thing! Thank you!
I can’t tell you how helpful this has been to me. I’m 2 months in trying to conceive but i need to lose weight for sure & joined a private gym . I was wondering if i should cancel or not sign a longer contract in case i get pregnant any day now but this really helped me realize how important it was to stay active and stay in touch with healthy lifestyle THROUGHOUT pregnancy. Great info, I couldn’t exercise much in the first trimester due to a subchorionic hematoma but I got back at it in the second trimester. Then I got really bad sciatica in my right hip and had to take a week off. Now in the third trimester I am back at the gym, hitting the weights and lots of moderate cardio and spin class. I learned to just work with my body at each stage of pregnancy and rest when needed. Exercise is amazing for pregnancy but definitely a LOT harder. Baby girl is due is 9 weeks 💕
Hey @Ashley O, I went to the ER and had a ultrasound. They informed me that I have a small subchorionic hematoma at 6 weeks. The ER nurse scared me that I could miscarry because of it. It feel great to read that someone made it pass that. Any advice?

This is so important. I hate how there is still so much "old views" with exercise during pregnancy. So much mama to be shaming if you're active while pregnant.
Note that the opposite happens as well. As more of these videos come out it makes it harder for mommas who aren't athletes to get exemptions from job expectations that can endanger them and their baby.. For myself that includes an annual physical test for work I need to pass which renders me dry heaving, extremely high heart rate, unable to talk, overheated, and almost passing out. I invariably need to do this test more than once in order to pass as well (when NOT pregnant). Try to talk your way out of that when all the employer hears from these videos is "exercise is good for the baby and mom", even when given a doctor's note.
Thank you two for this video! My husband and I are trying for a baby. I felt depressed thinking that during pregnancy, I couldn't really exercise as much as I can at the moment. I thought I wouldn't be able to do any strength training too and thought I would suffer with depression because I can't do what I enjoy anymore. This video is such an eye-opener.
We are so glad it was helpful! I would also like to recommend @megsquats TH-cam channel and IG! She is a former powerlifter who is pregnant and has been lifting her WHOLE pregnancy. She gives great tips on modifications and lifts and protecting your pelvic floor and core!!
This Is me. My youngest is 10 and my husband wants another I barely have about 3 months back to working out and eating right am nearly 20 lbs down and I don't want pregnancy to stop me from still working out. Especially for my mental health am so afraid of depression since I was dealing with that after the all the pandemic lock downs😔
Hello dear doctors! Greetings from across the Ocean. We are writing to you from Bulgaria. Last week my wife went through cervical cerclage (week 17). Could you please , tell us more about this procedure , accordig to your experience. We will be very grateful! Cheers, Ivo and Stella
This is making me feel motivated to work out and I'm not even pregnant! Definitely want to stay active when I am someday, especially to manage my increased blood clot risk from Factor V Leiden.
I’m about 6 weeks now, suffering from dizziness/nausea and exhaustion that hit right after week 4. I have a busy job and usually love to go to the gym or walks so I can’t wait to start again soon.
This video was great! I wish I had gotten 1/10th of this much useful information in my first OB visit! This has been a wonderful resource! I'm finally feeling the first trimester fatigue lifting during week 11 and was able to lift 5 days in a row last week! It feels so good to be active, strong and know that I'm doing what's best for both me and baby!
The OB visits are SO QUICK! It is hard to really get in to good discussions and truly cover everything we need to, so we hoped this videos could be a good supplement. I am so inspired you got your energy back and are lifting. I need to get going or labor is gonna kick my butt.
Thanks for this video. I am pregnant through ivf. So I am scared of everything, but want to exercise. There are a lot of fears surrounding exercise during pregnancy in my community of infertility. So it was great hearing drs (in addition to just my dr) saying go ahead and exercise. You two are the best!
I’m in the same boat! I have a friend who is a nurse and she said IVF is so diff than conceiving naturally. 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ Did you continue working out anyway?
Another fabulous video! I've been doing the Walk At Home TH-cam videos (almost) every day since we started "not trying but not preventing." They're so uplifting and encouraging without being fakey. I'm 34 weeks along and feeling great! I also really appreciate the "real world" talk - it's so nice to know that you don't exercise every day and you occasionally treat yourself to ice cream!
Love the video recommendation!! Thank you for sharing!! And yes, I try to be transparent about all the things. I should have exercised more, but you do what you can and what your body allows!! Any kind of moving is good for you and that little one. And sending you good luck with NTBNP (not trying but not preventing) ;) it's almosttt like TTC!!
In my second pregnancy I developed painful varicose veins, needed to wear medical grade support stocking. 3rd pregnancy I couldn't stand for more than 10 minutes. Not easy with 2 toddlers running around. Well, 4th pregnancy I had started exercising 3x a week. Mix of aerobics, palettes and yoga.It was great! No vein issues, no waking up at night with crazy leg cramps! Best of all, natural delivery, no need for epidural and I had experience using the right breathing techniques. I'm pregnant again and doing yoga 2x a week and aiming to walk 15 minutes a day. Not easy while taking care of housework and kids but I know it's difference between hard or easier pregnancy
This was very helpful, thank you. I'm on my 4th pregnancy, the 3rd recently ended in a miscarriage. I was exercising regularly and intensely back then. When I found out about this pregnancy I immediately stopped working out lol because I thought I did something wrong that led to the miscarriage. I think I was just acting out of anxiety. Going to start some light exercise today!
Chrissie, I am so so sorry to hear about your miscarriage. They are hard no matter how far along you are in pregnancy and it was absolutely not your fault or because of something you did. Congrats on your rainbow baby-will be praying for a smooth and healthy pregnancy for you. Hope you had a great lil’ workout!!
Very informative and helpful video. My husband and I were concerned that if I continue exercising it might have adverse risks on the unborn baby. Very reassuring and useful!
I'm currently 22 weeks, and I'm finding myself getting more easily out of breath whilst doing simple things like walking and I don't think that's healthy. So I'm considering going back to the gym, and attending the group workouts, but doing them low impact. I find that going to a schedule that's already set, will help with removing some of the stress of trying to put a plan together and group workouts are really motivating ❤️
At the beginning of the video you all mention cardio and weights. But around the 10 min mark he mentions just light weight training. Would you all recommend 75% cardio and 25 % weight training. Or he meant light in terms of weight per machine? Great video, me and my wife loved it! Very helpful
After 3 miscarriages (6th pregnancy), I am very cautious when exercising. Right now I'm in the throws of morning sickness and exhaustion (6weeks), so I'm aiming for 20min every 2 days. Sometimes it's cardio, other days like today it's yoga for exhaustion. Listening to your body is the most important thing for me. I also take into consideration that I live at higher altitude (around 6500ft) which is increasing my light-headedness when I do exercise.
I’m beyond impressed that you are getting in your 20 minutes every few days. I was so tired a lot of days I couldn’t get my buns off the couch. It is so tough and SO important to listen to your body. But it sounds like you are doing an amazing job and I definitely feel inspired to get up and get moving!!
I feel like y'all should share about what specific exercises to stay away from, because there are certain things/positions that can be harmful during pregnancy
I am so thankful I was able to maintain my workout routine throughout my entire pregnancy. I’ve always been physically active throughout my life as I grew up doing gymnastics. When I graduated high school I strayed away from working out and started having anxiety attacks. I tried multiple mediations that had horrible side effects so I gave up and decided to quit cold turkey. I knew I had to make a change so I started weight training. It is now my new lifestyle. So when I got pregnant I was worried if I wasn’t able to work out that my anxiety attacks might start again, but luckily I did not have a high risk pregnancy so I was able to maintain my exercise regimen. I started Orange Theory to help keep me accountable on those tough day’s when I just didn’t want to get up off the couch. I also continued with my weight training. I listened to my body and made modifications as needed. I did experience Braxton Hicks at times, but that mainly happened when I was running a lot. I would like to believe exercise helped decrease the unwanted side effects of pregnancy and also helped me recover quickly after birth. I definitely encourage every pregnant mama to give it a try! Believe it or not I think I had more energy during my pregnancy thanks to exercise.
I did Orange Theory one time in my life and it KICKED MY BUTT. Awesome workout. Loved how it incorporated cardio and strength training! And thanks for following along here on our channel--we love having you!
I’ve been thinking of starting Orange Theory as well but I was scared that it might be too rigorous/intense while pregnant. Did you feel the intensity was okay/safe during your pregnancy?
I wish I found your videos when I was pregnant. I just had my baby 5 weeks ago. But I am definitely going to be watching all your other videos and keeping up with your pregnancy videos for my next baby (:

This is definitely easier said than done, especially in the first trimester when I couldn't eat properly due to nausea/tiredness/fatigue. I understand if you feel you are able to do it that's fine, but I had to stop my running and was very disappointed.
Thanks Doctors! I'm 6+ weeks in and I'm so so sleepy everyday, can barely focus on work. I used to be very active, should I fight the sleepiness and work out, or should I just let it run it's course until I'm out of the first trimester? Thank!
Awe thank you guys so much for this video, you guys are the cutest, and congratulations mama! I also happen to be pregnant, 6.5 weeks along and I was really worried about exercise and was scared it could hurt baby. I'm 28w and walk 6 miles a day, 4 days a week. And about 2-3 miles the other days. I also do some yoga and a little bit of calisthenics. Walking feels worse the first half mile, then feels great once I get into the groove.
Rose you are AMAZING!! Keep it up--seriously it the best thing you can do for you and that baby. I am willing to bet you have an awesome labor--you are going to be so strong and ready to crush it!! You're my inspiration to go get on the treadmill right now!! THANK YOU!

-use a mineral sunscreen, be forewarned though…they don’t smell good and they’re HEAVY
This is so important. I hate how there is still so much "old views" with exercise during pregnancy. So much mama to be shaming if you're active while pregnant.
totally agree 🙄
Note that the opposite happens as well. As more of these videos come out it makes it harder for mommas who aren't athletes to get exemptions from job expectations that can endanger them and their baby.. For myself that includes an annual physical test for work I need to pass which renders me dry heaving, extremely high heart rate, unable to talk, overheated, and almost passing out. I invariably need to do this test more than once in order to pass as well (when NOT pregnant). Try to talk your way out of that when all the employer hears from these videos is "exercise is good for the baby and mom", even when given a doctor's note.
Im over 4 weeks and 40 in two weeks . Going to do everything I can to make sure me and baby stay healthy
I lost it at 6 weeks but trying next month
Any updates? How are you doing?
Iodine & zinc!
Hello dear doctors!
Greetings from across the Ocean. We are writing to you from Bulgaria. Last week my wife went through cervical cerclage (week 17).
Could you please , tell us more about this procedure , accordig to your experience. We will be very grateful!
Cheers,
Ivo and Stella
Thank you for this great info!!! I loved walking while I was pregnant❤️ I gained between 25-30 pounds with each baby.
That is awesome! You should be proud! That's the exact recommendation and you crushed it--and it's no easy task.
This is making me feel motivated to work out and I'm not even pregnant! Definitely want to stay active when I am someday, especially to manage my increased blood clot risk from Factor V Leiden.
I’m 9 weeks pregnant and my first pregnancy. 😊😊😊😊I just subscribed😊
Me being 17 weeks now , all I do is walking and try to get out and go to a park every 🥲 I get kinda stressed when I’m not active
@@TheDoctorsBjorkman can I run on the treadmill? What if i am doing 2 jobs
Congratulations mamas
First of all, you guys are the cutest! Congratulations on the little one! ❤️ Thank you for sharing this video with us all! God Bless
Thank you!
Week 16 going into week 17; starting the gym tomorrow. Wish me luck!! ❤❤
Loving to watch your channel! I am wondering, in about 6-7 weeks, what kind of exercise consider safe? Thank you!
Oh thank goodness. I workout everyday and I was worried I'd have to stop. I want to be healthy for me and baby.
Did you walk on a treadmill or outside? I want to incorporate walking daily but not sure if I can do an incline
@@ddeniseee08 I walk outside, natural incline, up and down hilly street. When you look at trees and birds it's easier
Okay but that animation in the beginning. So cute! 😆
This is SO informative, the benefits of exercising during pregnancy are highlighted so well. Thank you for sharing.
How about you’re over 40? Are weights safe ? Hiit? My doc has cleared me for most .
Are you able to do a video on spotting / bleeding during pregnancy and what’s normal/ when to seek help in first trimester and further trimesters?
No promises on when, but I will add that to our list of things we need to talk about! Very common question we need to go over!!
This is such a great breakdown, and so comprehensive, too!
I’m an RN transitioning into OB/GYN, your videos are so interesting and informative! Love learning more
That is SO awesome! You are going to love it! Never a dull moment in OB/GYN. Thank you for being here and glad you are enjoying!
This was very informative. U guys looked at each other a billion times
Congrats on your sweet new baby! Postpartum is SO TOUGH so hang in there and ask for help. And snuggle that baby all you can.
You guys are gonna be the best parents ever, what a team 🥰💛
You’re so kind. We’re really hoping we will be able to teach this kiddo to work hard and love big!
I hope I am not being intrusive, but it really seems you have goiter in the vídeo Mrs Dr Bjorkman!!! Just making sure you are aware. Unfortunaly recently had a miscarriage and I am kind of worry to do something wrong regarding exercise in a next pregnancy. This vídeo really helped in that regard. Thank you so much! Really invested in seeing more of your content
I just found out over the holidays that I am pregnant! We are thrilled :) I found your channel and have been catching up with all your content. Thank you so much for your very informative videos and all the work you put towards your channel. I plan on using more our rowing machine in order to exercise during the pregnancy and I was wondering if it was a good option. Greetings from Montréal.
Welcome to our channel and CONGRATULATIONS!! I am so excited for you--new adventures for your family in 2021!! :)

I was scared to click on this video and feel bad of not doing enough but you guys are so encouraging, thank you so much, from what I heard hear seem like I’m exercising enough, hope I can do more tho, it’s a little bit hard because I work basically all day
I am 11 weeks and this video is so apt for me ! Such great content !!
You two are so cute! I love these videos and love the support you have for each other ! Thanks, I really have been getting mixed information about my gym workout from concerned loved ones. This helps so much!
You guys were so great with the information! Thank you! I do have a question how about for top elite competitive athletes ?
This is a random comment, but I hope it encourages you. Sarah, I love how you styled your hair!!
Awesome video!! Just subscribed. My husband and I just got married, and will be planning to have a baby in the next two years. I’m already very active, and have always had plans to remain active while pregnant. Really love all of the information, and I’m excited for our future journey, especially with the advice we can always come back and get from your channel. Congrats on your bundle of joy you look great! ♥️
I probably won’t be pregnant again but I would’ve loved these videos during my prior pregnancies!
Well it is great to know you think they would be helpful for pregnant mamas. We so appreciate the support!
I have enjoyed watching your pregnancy personally being pregnant myself and professionally as a PA and learning/reinforcing what to say to patients. Thanks for doing what you do!
Same to you Sarah! Congrats on your pregnancy and pleaseee stay safe!! 2020 has been such a crazy year to be pregnant.
Great advice! I’ve loved learning week by week as y’all share your journey and knowledge!
Thank you so much for being here Amy! We have enjoyed sharing the journey and hope it helps some of the other moms out there who are in our shoes!
Being a strong healthy momma for your babe is critical! Love this topic and I'm super passionate about it! 😍
Me too! Though I find it harder to workout than I expected some days. My mind knows how important it is but my body says IM TIRED lol. Finally getting some energy back and getting it done. Thanks for being here!!
Love your videos! These videos have been so informational and helpful to me!
Does anyone have any suggestions on playing volleyball? I’m over 5 weeks and just want to make sure I’m staying active but not putting the baby at risk. Thank you so much!❤
As a medical student who is interested in pursuing OB/GYN, I found this video very informative and an important topic to discuss with patients!
That's awesome! I know I am very biased, but OBGYN is an AWESOME specialty. If you ever have more questions or want to discuss-let me know! Happy to chat. I was STRONGLY discouraged from pursuing OB when I was in medical school because of the lifestyle, "it's impossible to have a family", etc. And it's just not true!! It's a great field and I wouldn't have been as happy doing anything else! Good luck to you as you are figuring out where your passion lies.
Oh good, this video has given me motivation to start working out 😅 I'm, currently 10 weeks, thanks!
I love this session on exercise in pregnancy! What great medically sound information. This a question I get a lot from my moms and now I can show them your resource! Very informative
Thanks lady! Keeping you in my thoughts as you start your next journey!
Very helpful! Thank you so much!! Found out I’m pregnant with baby 4 and was hoping to keep up with my resistance training. 🤗
Love that you are encouraging healthy and active pregnancy!
We are trying! So many mamas worry or don't know it's okay to stay active. Now that I'm pregnant, I also think it's sometimes incredibly hard to do, so trying to be more disciplined about it. lol
Excellent information!!! And what about swimming, running or jogging, riding a bike?
Love your Chanel! ✨ Would be fantastic to see videos of vegetarian nutrition for twin pregnancies, how to decrease risks of common complications in a twin pregnancy. Thanks! ✨🌸
This is definitely easier said than done, especially in the first trimester when I couldn't eat properly due to nausea/tiredness/fatigue. I understand if you feel you are able to do it that's fine, but I had to stop my running and was very disappointed.
Thanks for the video but I do have a question: I was told laying on your belly is bad, yes or no?
Thank you so much for this video! You both are always so practical and right to the point!
Thank you for spending time informing us on this matter! It’s so good for personal knowledge and for patients who may have questions.
You are so welcome! We hope it is helpful for pregnant mamas and anyone who might be counseling them!
I'm so happy you two covered everything about this, it really gave me the facts and the reassurance that I needed. I am now looking forward to being able to exercise and improve the benefits for baby and for myself as well. Thank you! 😊❤
Onlnonojoj oh ho
Ive never seen anyone who so passionately nods their head to every word the other person says until i started watching this channel
😂😂
I think its sweet!
I love love the short animation at the beginning... Just beautiful 😍
Thank you for taking the time to create this video. Deepest gratitudes 🤰🙏
Hey love the video very helpful, but i found it I’m 5 weeks pregnant. Is it ever too early to exercise? I just don’t want to risk anything happening
I can’t wait to use this info for when we are at that point! Enjoying your content!! Thank you both
Aw thanks so much Blakely! And thanks for being here. :)
Please I'm currently carrying out an undergraduate research on effect of physiotherapy led exercise on physiological and psychosocial profile of pregnant.
So I'm hoping to get more tips on exercise that will benefit pregnant women.
I love this, it was so comforting. I’m new to your channel and already a fan! Thank you so so much for everything said!! :)
THANK YOU!
Thank you for sharing such great infos with us. I just found out that I'm pregnant, this is my second pregnancy as i lost the first one at 7 weeks, I've been hit the gym for the last couple of months and after i found out about the pregnancy i stopped, do you recommend exercise in first trimester?!
Thanks for the tips! Definitely easier said than done to get the recommended amount per week. Hoping to have more energy for this by the second trimester!
SO MUCH easier said than done. Trying to practice what I preach but there have been A LOT of weeks it just doesn't happen.
@@TheDoctorsBjorkman omg yes I love her! I have been doing her program for two years now. So good and affordable :) and she now has a specific program for TTC and pregnancy too
WOW, this video was so helpful! I had a giggle because I have noticed my centre of gravity has changed a lot! Question: What kind of fluid? Is it like what discharge would be like?
Thank you doctors. That was so helpful. 💖
Hey if you are trying to conceive, then Whatsapp the man DAT my aunty,he can also help you 💯💯

OB res here. Love following along and really loving all the info on exercise in pregnancy! So important!
Thanks lady. Hope residency is going well. It is the longest (and shortest) 4 years of your life. But what a great job we get to do.
I am a medical student, and this is great info to learn before clinicals!
I'm so glad it is helpful! And hope medical school is treating you well. I imagine it is a very weird time to be a learner, but hang in there, it IS worth it!
Great advice! I wish I could be fit out of pregnancy too...
Oh hush. You are. That AP diameter is considerably thinner than mine.
A lot of things are self explanatory/logical. I wanted details about weight lifting and my main concern was regarding hernias. And what exercises are ok in certain trimesters
Check out "Meg Squats". She has a phenomenal weight lifting in pregnancy program that Sarah got to help with. Her TH-cam and IG videos are all excellent as well!
I really like your video and I would like to know more about teas. Which tea is safe to drink during pregnancy? Thank you
