Thanks :) Yeah it's just the access that makes the job difficult - if that cross member wasn't there (like on the e46) it would be pretty straightforward I think
Great video. Recently bought my Z4 (3.0 on an 03) and plan to do as much servicing myself as possible, so your videos are a great source of info. Thanks. Can I ask where you are getting your detailed info from? A workshop type manual would be a godsend for me as far as torque settings etc., is concerned.
Thank you! Plenty more coming. Info is from a range of sources really. Lots of youtube, z4 forums etc. I also bought a Haynes service and repair manual for an e46 which includes detail on z4's too - although I rarely refer to it. The instructions which came with the X8R VANOS kit are also pretty detailed, inclusive of torque specs etc
I seriously considered dismantling the entire front end of the car to do this (did this a few times on the mini for access) but it looked like a LOT of work, possibly involving drilling out some welds too iirc. Didn't look worth trying to me.
You're highlighting one of the advantages of the 4 cylinder 2.0. Less smiles per mile perhaps, but when they get old, they are much easier to work on.
Nothing worth having comes easy!
Great vid!!
Nice video. The vanos looks like a nightmare! Should be a nice little toy once the car is finished tho :)
Yep, I wasn't expecting the access problems. I did manage to overcome them though stay tuned for the next one 😉
Top video mate
Thank you! More on the way
Good video. 👍 I have heard the Vanos on the z4 in every engine isn't the easiest.

Have you replaced the chain as well?

It seems easier to just get a law degree so you can afford a new one😂
That doesn't sound like any fun at all 😂
