    Today, we finally get started on the process of prepping my S52 engine for my BMW E36. Despite being fairly low miles the engine looked like it had seen better days. Rust, oil, grime, old paint, you name it, this engine had it stuck to it. I started by stripping all the accessories and begun the process of endless wire wheeling to achieve as clean of a block as I could get. When I say endless, I really mean it haha, the video doesn't do it justice, that took forever. Once clean I applied semi gloss black paint to the block to match the factory finish, and silver to the rest. I am very happy with those this turned out considering it was a DIY and the engine was still together. Really looking forward to slapping on new accessories and tossing this thing in the bay! More soon, much love.

    There’s that S52 content! Excellent work on the restoration, that was a ton of wire wheeling. Lots of satisfying ratcheting too. I love my power tools but manually ratcheting just feels right. Engine looks mint.

    I know this feeling of accomplishment. i too have spent countless hours tinkering with many engines and there is nothing that compares to the satisfaction in your heart after seeing all your efforts make such a huge difference in this new "piece of art" as my dad would tell me growing up back when I would buy an e30 for 1000 bucks, and do exactly what you are doing. taking every individual piece and making it spotless, because of the love. keep on loving brother! 🤙🏻

    Was this a known 100% good engine? I'd be worried about timing chain wear, cam/crank wear, and piston ring wear. Head gasket failures have plagued two of my BMWs. You're a few steps away from taking the whole thing apart, getting it cleaned, machined, painted, and reassembled! No, not a "few" steps really, but with the work it takes to install an engine, why not fully rebuild it while it's like this?

    • @ChromaticGarage
      @ChromaticGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had it compression tested before doing this. I’d say I’m quite far from doing all of that, would be a little extra at this point. But I’m sure I’ll do that to another engine soon

    Also a steel wire is not suffecient at getting all the corrosion of, the correct method would be blasting.

    Сбивать шкивы молотком и покрасить говно-краской мотор из баллончика, перед этим не подготовив покрытие- это действительно great restoration

    Может я чёт не понял, но не проще отпескоструить!? Это намного проще и результат в разы лучше! Через года 2 краска слетит и с блока и головки....

    First off, how many hours of work did this take you (roughly) not including dry time on the paint? Frickin amazing work, the fact that you were able to accurately remove everything is my fav part 😂 really awesome
    Second, man you made this look way easier than it is 😂
    I’m currently on day 1 doing this on my m54b30. Like the tape over the holes, that takes me 1 minute minimum each one 🤣 don’t get me started on getting all the crud out of the crosshatched patterns. I thought it was gonna be a nice, enjoyable cake walk 😭
