    Club World is British Airways Business Class.
    Come and fly the British Airways Boeing 747-400 With me in Business class from San Diego to London Heathrow.
    Flying on the Boeing 747 Upper Deck is always a fun experience.
    I picked seat 64K which has direct aisle access and is also a window seat.
    The flight was enjoyable, though we did have turbulence for about five hours during the first part of the flight and during the meal service.

    My first flight on an airline was on a 747 in the early 1970s with TAP. I was a freshman in high school, and sitting in that upstairs lounge on a flight from JFK to Lisbon was a memory it has always stayed with me.

    • @Whenitraveltheworld
      @Whenitraveltheworld  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh that sounds amazing, I wish I could have experienced it. My first flight on a Boeing 747 was not until 2008.

      @@Whenitraveltheworld There being no age limit for drinking in Portugal I enjoyed several glasses of wine while sitting in that lounge as well. After doing the math I figured it was the spring of 1973 and I was 15 years old.

      I used to live in OB back in the 90's, went back recently and I couldn't believe the traffic!

    Nice video, it is very cool seeing a 747 in San Diego and that must have been a powerful takeoff! Because I like your style of trip report as well as your channel, I have a request for you. If able, could you fly the Lufthansa inaugural to Austin this May. You could experience the new extension in Austin as well as Lufthansa service that I don’t see very much of on TH-cam! Austin has a new SkyClub opening this year (don’t know when) but that could be an interesting add as well if you have an AMEX or some other way to get in without a SkyTeam ticket.

    I've always wondered why the forward slats of a 747 retract upon landing and engine reversal, and then redeploy after reversal. Someone have an answer?

    • @Whenitraveltheworld
      @Whenitraveltheworld  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      A good question, something I don't know about i'm afraid..hope someone can help.

    • @Honest300Al
      @Honest300Al 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      After a quick research it appears that the leading edge flaps retract when the engines are put into reverse. This protects the leading edge flaps from being damaged by debris being kicked up and sent into the flaps. When the engine comes out of reverse the flaps return to their normal position.

    Why do BA have such late departure times from the West Coast of North America? This flights leaves SAN after 8pm and I know both BA84 and BA268 leave YVR/LAX after 9pm! All these flights don't arrive into LHR until mid-afternoon, a really odd time to arrive especially if you have an onward connection and/or you are trying to combat jetlag.

    • @Whenitraveltheworld
      @Whenitraveltheworld  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could be the slot times available to land at LHR. Could be large number of factors.

      @@Whenitraveltheworld I recall that experience, distinctly. It was August of 1971, on TWA 904(?) to Madrid; I was 13. We flew out of JFK and that amazing terminal.
      We got "dressed up", had menus, lounges and this quirky seating plan / schematic with coloured peel off / on stickers.
      Of course, this was before deregulation so, the airlines out did themselves on service.
      Fond memories.

      I have only seen photos of the TWA terminal at JFK, looks amazing.

    The less said about the San Diego lounge, the better.
    Comparing this to the First Class video, the seating accommodation seemed as comfy and convenient. The amenities might have been fewer and dinner presentation lacked the elegance of FC, but I imagine that the food was as good. • @Whenitraveltheworld
      @Whenitraveltheworld  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The length is not short, but there is a large amount of dead space you can't use on the run, for example when you land, a lot of it you miss due the intersection and steep incline as you approach, and on take off you have to clear point loma and lots of houses sitting in your way.
