I remember a lot of people saying this version of Gordon was boring. Idk how a commissioner running head first into a burning building to save kids lives and also not afraid to run some hands. Not sure what boring means for those people.
Boring is probably my least favourite adjective because it doesn’t actually mean anything specific. It’s so vague and nondescript, if anything it says more about the person using the word than the thing they’re describing.
The only times the word boring can serve a some criticism is when a story seems to set up something cool but ends up delivering in a worst way then what could've been, and even then it requires elaboration, out of the top of my head my first example is spider-man 2 for the ps5 handled venom, the marketing made it seem like venom was gonna be a new and interesting thing, being very secretive of who it was even gonna be, only for it to be the most obvious pick, that's fine on it's own but, thanks to the marketing, it kinda fell flat

I think it's impressive that Gordon actually managed to unintentionally sneak up on Batman. Normally, you'd think Batman would already be halfway out of the room and only allowing a glimpse of himself at best when someone walks in on him.

After watching Serum Lake’s latest video on BTAS’ Scarecrow, plus reading some people’s comments on that video, I have wondered whether a Caped Crusader’s Scarecrow could have these additional gimmicks besides the fear toxin: 1.) I recall one person suggesting that Scarecrow could be given more to do, by having him sometimes utilized as a Hannibal Lector-type villain who can psychoanalyze other criminals. Building off of that, I started to imagine how such a version of Scarecrow could interact with Caped Crusader’s Harleen Quinzel and/or a hypothetical CC’s version of Hugo Strange. 2.) As a nod to the Penguin sometimes using birds and Batman sometimes using actual bats to assist him (like in “Batman: Year One” and “Batman Begins”), I wondered if Scarecrow could sometimes have flocks of crows and ravens with him. If so, then I can imagine him using the fear toxin on someone, then sicking the birds on them so the victim also hallucinates the attacking birds as whatever he/she fears.
I feel like Scarecrow is going to end up being a woman if they do appear next season. It was only ever done once in the Future's End comics. Also predicting now they introduce Ra's so they can bring Harvey back with the Lazarus pit.

To me one of the ultimate Jim Gordon moments was in Detective Comics #741. Jim Gordon confronts the Joker, gun drawn, in front of a crowd, and says, “He’s gone too far. He paralyzed my daughter, my little girl… He just murdered my bride, my Sarah… too much… too far…” Batman says, “We’ve all gone too far. Look at them. Look at us. They can’t take any more. It’s time to bring our people back Jim.” “I won’t stop you.” The Joker then adds, “You have a little boy too, don’t you.” And Jim Gordon shoots the Joker… in the knee. I'll be honest while this show's take on Gordon isn't my favourite, I do see great potential in fleshing him out in future episodes, and he has moments like when he helped Batan save the kids in the burning building, and I can see them flesh out his dynamic with Batman naturally. I do think its unique how we see him start out as this pessimistic head of the police force who felt guilty over how much corruption was in the GCPD and the Mayor's office, and we see him argue with Barbara over the morality of criminal cases seeing things from a black and white perspective, however when Batman shows up he starts somewhat agree with Barbara's viewpoints about how morally grey people can be, so I think it would be interesting to see Gordon begin to have more hope in uprooting the corruption in the system with help from Batman as we see Barbara possibly begin to question whether working with the system truly helps especially after the multiple complex situations she was put in like what happen to Harley Quinn, Onomatopoeia going after her after put out on her, Bullock and Flass trying to killer and Harvey Dent's downfall and death as Two-Face
They wrote Gordon to be an Ayn Randian, Objectivist, with a black or white/good or evil view of the world, because that belief and Ayn Rand herself, was so popular around the time period. Spider-Man co-creator Steve Ditko was also an Objectivist for instance, and his later comic characters would start to reflect that to an extreme degree.
He may have started out like that, but I think he realises that his views don't hold up to much scrutiny, especially when he starts to embrace working with Batman.
I'm surprised that there aren't that many analysis videos on Jim Corrigan alone, especially given the fact that he was supposed to represent two prospects of Gotham PD. Yet, aren't the same person. Corrigan we seen in the modern GCPD is often played up as a red herring to the Golden Age Corrigan (aka The Spectre) as a way for the authors to disguise him as possibly the past life of The Spectre or setting up his appearance in some shape or form. I feel like he is practically a comic trope incarnate when it comes to dissecting his character in both iterations with one representing lawlessness and corruption with the other representing the true form of Justice to a divine degree. Heck! Even in the episode itself, they did play with people who had ongoing knowledge of the DCU by even introducing the modern seperate Corrigan in this golden age atmosphere just to mess with the audience. That is top-tier creative trolling at its best!

I draw the conclusion from making parallel between this gordon and the commissioner Frank Reagan from Blue Bloods (played by Tom Selleck). They have power over their officer, but a commish doesn’t just a king of his own. He still has someone else to answer to, the Mayor, and they never agree to their boss. In addition, both commissioner have officers go behind their back and they are the one who have to sort things out and get pressed. This is what this Gordon is more interesting, it shows the bureaucracy on the upper floor, it shows that there’s more happen behind the scene than just police and a hero defeating the villains. This, to me, opens up another interesting things, in both Btas and the arkham games, and some comic, the present of the mayor was never mentioned or has influence or says in the state of the city. This would open up a whole lot of questions for discussion. What more, the commish can’t just go out on the street by his own all the time which is my gripe, since this never seems to make Gordon a true boss. if he was captain of the precinct, then yes, he can go, work as a beat, but a commissioner going head first into action? Doesn’t he have ton of paper works and stuff to do as commissioner?
@@phucletran2860 Perhaps the good press is at least giving him some protection? Not a lot, just enough. He was overshadowed by the two defective detectives but still made the paper. That was the whole reason why he was commissioner to begin with.
I liked Miller's Year One having Gordon being lower level and having his aucces, by the end, tied to Batman. A reason for them to begin to trust each other. If they did that in Caped Crusader, you would, of course, have the complaint they are just copying. But you also wouldn't really be able to have Barbara as an adult lawyer. Though I suppose you could have a Gordon who has been held back , so I guess it could work. I like this Gordon, though, who, while he is trying to make things better, is a bitbto trusting the other police are ALWAYS doing the right thing for the right reasons. It gives him an interesting dynamic with Barbara and with Bats.
What if they killed Gordon and made Montoya commissioner? This would certainly be a bold move (!) but since Montoya is pretty much mirroring Gordon from Frank Miller’s “Year One” she will need progression some kind of way. Probably won’t happen but damn wouldn’t that be a shake-up?
A more good ending version of this would be that Gordon either retires due to realizing he's no longer fit for duty or he becomes mayor, similarly to how he did in the Arkhamverse and Absolute Batman.
The only problem I have with it that it is always the ginger guys who get their skin and hair color changed. Also I don’t think that in the time period and with the social criticism the show tries to convey the change makes much sense. But hey it’s not that important.
I think my favorite moment from the whole show might have been Gordon walking in on Batman reading their bulletin board about him and slowly turning to look at Gordon over his shoulder, and Gordon dropping the coffee mug to reach for his gun😂 it’s just so funny.
Since it follows "Year One"s story, I hope they also cover year 2, aka "The War of Jokes and Riddles." Making batman pick the lesser of two evils, makes for a great story.
I wonder if Gordon and Batman's relationship is going to evolve in a way that he formally takes Batman on as a partner of sorts at the end of the series. Like we see the bat signal in the sky for the first time as a symbol to the entire city of justice and safety.
Will Thorne be able to keep the two out even for killing Dent? I remember him on the phone about it at the end of the season, and I think he might, but Season 2 is going to escalate where he might lose his power much like how it does in Year 2 or 3 of Batman’s career.
Considering Thorn has proof that Dent broke into his house, killed several of his employees and attempted to kill his son, I think he's got a pretty strong case.
But not the attempted murder on Barbara and since Dent was in custody and died shielding her, they are screwed Bullock and Flask would rather take life in prison over regular games of 'tag' with Batman on the outside
the thing is that the existence of batman is testament to the powerlessness of Gordon and the corruption of the police. if the mayor were to give gordon to clean house and the ressources needed to do the work needed Batman would vanish or at least stop being such a public figure. Batman is a symbol of the corruption of gotham. he fights it but he needs it at the same time. if gotham was cleaned up in truth Batman would have nothing left to do and be forced once again to find a way to deal with his rage and grief. and he probably couldn't.
I like the new Gordon. Can’t wait to see the dynamic. Not sure what the complaint of him being boring is about Bunch of bell ends whining on the internet

Forget Batman, the Multiversal constants and variables of any Jim Gordon sure are something to behold. Guy really can't catch a break, and yet he still does what must needs be done regardless. Of course Gordon's one of those ultra-rare frontline chiefs. Who knows if he was a Stonewall Jackson type of general in a past life or two. Hmm, Mayor Jessop sure has lots of pull and string in Caped Crusader. Would like to see him follow the footsteps of his The Dark Knight iteration, if not Commissioner Loeb from Batman: Arkham Origins come Season 2. 4:32: The very same reason I'm bored of seeing more out-of-context "waah, the cops did another George Floyd, please disband them" sensationalist newsflashes... believe me, not even civvies should be immune to scrutiny nowadays, as we've seen with engineered river puppy rescues on social media, pro-Trump insurrectionists, and the infamous Logan Paul out there. Then again, I may have been spoiled by a decent police force back in an old home in real life, shows like Patlabor, and games like SWAT 3 and 4. 5:09: I would like to see another Gordon iteration who's not actually a Gotham native, and yet is still wholeheartedly willing to serve and to protect his newfound home. So far, best Alfred is The Batman 2004 Alfred, though the choice of favorites may change depending on personal mood.

Hear me out, i do like Jim and barbara gordon and the topic of race is going to be an issue but as a black man. I prefer we have our own characters that can rival or be better than the original like miles and peter for example. It's like the dumb Bruce timm line where the reason why he made the penguin female is due to the lack of female villains when there's a plethera of DC female villains that exist even in the comics. Not to mention he creates new characters all the time. If they called Jim and barbara someone else i'd be fine Black people aren't stand in for white people nor they are reskins for white characters
I get what you're saying, and don't want to dismiss your view. My only counter point is characters like Ethan Bennett and Ellen Yin from The Batman (2004). These were original, ethnically diverse characters, that were well written, but "the fans" (bigoted morons on forums) said their inclusion was forced and they shouldn't be used. As a result of this feedback they were phased out of the show, and haven't transitioned to the comic. I don't think there's an easy solution to including diverse characters that will please everybody, but I personally only view race swapping as problematic if the character's race is an intrinsic part of their character. An African American Red Skull, for instance, wouldn't really work, nor would a white Black Panther. At the end of the day, this version of the characters doesn't replace anything. It's not like Bruce Timm is coming round our houses, burning all of our comics, and DVDs of every other version. It's just a different take.
Bruce Timm said Batman lacks meaningful female villains. It's only ever the same 3 Ivy, Catwoman and Harley and that's it. All of Batman's other female villains aren't memorable enough or cool enough to be an option. The rest are too D list or too lame or just repetitive femme fatale characters.
@@SerumLake Wow that's why I haven't seen Yin and haven't seen clayface since Batgirl came. (I'm in the middle of watching season 3 as of right now). Personally I don't find characters like Ethan and Yin to be "forced" because not only they were well written original characters but they felt like natural characters that fit within The Batman cartoon. I understand that not everyone is going to be pleased but it is still preferable they make new characters or even use the already existing characters who are diverse and if there are racist/bigoted people who cares we don't have to play nice with them. And don't get me started on the people who cry "woke" when they don't know what that word means I could carless if words change. For instance for the upcoming superman movie if they were to make Clark kent black it's kinds of insulting considering Icon and Val zod are right there at their disposal or Diana prince when Nubia is right there. This would certainly be a bold move (!) but since Montoya is pretty much mirroring Gordon from Frank Miller’s “Year One” she will need progression some kind of way. Probably won’t happen but damn wouldn’t that be a shake-up?
A more good ending version of this would be that Gordon either retires due to realizing he's no longer fit for duty or he becomes mayor, similarly to how he did in the Arkhamverse and Absolute Batman.

The only problem I have with it that it is always the ginger guys who get their skin and hair color changed. Also I don’t think that in the time period and with the social criticism the show tries to convey the change makes much sense. But hey it’s not that important.

I think my favorite moment from the whole show might have been Gordon walking in on Batman reading their bulletin board about him and slowly turning to look at Gordon over his shoulder, and Gordon dropping the coffee mug to reach for his gun😂 it’s just so funny.

I think this version of commissioner Gordon is very capable in the field and is doing his best in the office despite getting pushback from corruption
I wonder if Gordon and Batman's relationship is going to evolve in a way that he formally takes Batman on as a partner of sorts at the end of the series. Like we see the bat signal in the sky for the first time as a symbol to the entire city of justice and safety.
Will Thorne be able to keep the two out even for killing Dent? I remember him on the phone about it at the end of the season, and I think he might, but Season 2 is going to escalate where he might lose his power much like how it does in Year 2 or 3 of Batman’s career.
Considering Thorn has proof that Dent broke into his house, killed several of his employees and attempted to kill his son, I think he's got a pretty strong case.
But not the attempted murder on Barbara and since Dent was in custody and died shielding her, they are screwed

the thing is that the existence of batman is testament to the powerlessness of Gordon and the corruption of the police. if the mayor were to give gordon to clean house and the ressources needed to do the work needed Batman would vanish or at least stop being such a public figure. Batman is a symbol of the corruption of gotham. he fights it but he needs it at the same time. if gotham was cleaned up in truth Batman would have nothing left to do and be forced once again to find a way to deal with his rage and grief. and he probably couldn't.

Forget Batman, the Multiversal constants and variables of any Jim Gordon sure are something to behold. Guy really can't catch a break, and yet he still does what must needs be done regardless.
Of course Gordon's one of those ultra-rare frontline chiefs. Who knows if he was a Stonewall Jackson type of general in a past life or two.

Hear me out, i do like Jim and barbara gordon and the topic of race is going to be an issue but as a black man. I prefer we have our own characters that can rival or be better than the original like miles and peter for example.
It's like the dumb Bruce timm line where the reason why he made the penguin female is due to the lack of female villains when there's a plethera of DC female villains that exist even in the comics. Not to mention he creates new characters all the time.

I get what you're saying, and don't want to dismiss your view. My only counter point is characters like Ethan Bennett and Ellen Yin from The Batman (2004). These were original, ethnically diverse characters, that were well written, but "the fans" (bigoted morons on forums) said their inclusion was forced and they shouldn't be used. As a result of this feedback they were phased out of the show, and haven't transitioned to the comic.
I don't think there's an easy solution to including diverse characters that will please everybody, but I personally only view race swapping as problematic if the character's race is an intrinsic part of their character. An African American Red Skull, for instance, wouldn't really work, nor would a white Black Panther.
At the end of the day, this version of the characters doesn't replace anything. It's not like Bruce Timm is coming round our houses, burning all of our comics, and DVDs of every other version. It's just a different take.
Bruce Timm said Batman lacks meaningful female villains. It's only ever the same 3 Ivy, Catwoman and Harley and that's it. All of Batman's other female villains aren't memorable enough or cool enough to be an option. The rest are too D list or too lame or just repetitive femme fatale characters.

Personally I don't find characters like Ethan and Yin to be "forced" because not only they were well written original characters but they felt like natural characters that fit within The Batman cartoon.
I understand that not everyone is going to be pleased but it is still preferable they make new characters or even use the already existing characters who are diverse and if there are racist/bigoted people who cares we don't have to play nice with them. And don't get me started on the people who cry "woke" when they don't know what that word means I could carless if words change.
For instance for the upcoming superman movie if they were to make Clark kent black it's kinds of insulting considering Icon and Val zod are right there at their disposal or Diana prince when Nubia is right there.
Ya it's true but I just wished they use these existing characters or make characters that can be popular like they did with miles Morales because I feel that general audiences only have a fraction of minority characters that have yet to appear on screen. I mean people have been begging for another static shock show or movie and we're still starving.
Thankfully the MCU were able to introduce characters like Falcon, war machine, Khamala khan, Black panther, Nick fury Jr (yes his name is junior), Shang chi etc
And thankfully in the upcoming superman film will introduce Mr. Terrific and he'll be a fan favorite character for the new DCU
