    Niccolò Paganini, born October 27, 1782, is still considered by many the greatest violin virtuosi to have ever lived. While the 19th century saw several extraordinary violinists, the Italian Paganini was so beyond his peers that it was rumored by his contemporaries that he had sold his soul to the devil.

    • @izharhaque2851
      @izharhaque2851 6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      He also apparently rejected to have his last rites recited to him before he dies, so those people who thought he sold his soul kinda too that heavily. Toe a couple decades for a new kind to decide to give him a proper burial.

  • @RichardFeynmanRules

    Niccolò Paganini was amazing composer *and* performer -- and kind of a rock star of his time. What they show in this scene from the movie is accurate to accounts of his concerts. Women screamed, fainted. It was said by some that he sold his soul to the devil to play that well -- thus, the part with the devil's silhouette behind him. Paganini played it all up for all it was worth! As for the piece, it's astonishingly difficult to play, as Wikipedia notes:
    "Widely considered one of the most difficult pieces ever written for the solo violin, it requires many highly advanced techniques such as parallel octaves and rapid shifting covering many intervals, extremely fast scales and arpeggios including minor scales in thirds and tenths, left hand pizzicato, high positions, and quick string crossing."
    This movie is great fun! The music is for the ages.

    • @zzlai6235
      @zzlai6235 10 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Well, It was people who refused to believe Paganini had that amazing talent who said that he sold his soul to the devil. People think that it is not humanly possible for someone to play songs like Paganini, so back in those days, the 'logical' explanation was he sold his soul to the devil, hence the name the 'Devil's Violinist'. Though he was said to be extremely charismatic and the music he played was very mesmerizing, traits of a devil, wouldn't you say?

    • @RichardFeynmanRules
      @RichardFeynmanRules 10 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Damion Lai Or traits of an angel! lol! Great comment - he was extraordinary, for sure. It was also said of blues great Robert Johnson that he sold his soul to the devil to play as he did. Interesting and ancient meme, this idea that a "devil" can give one talents and gifts and that such goodness and talent could not be inherent in someone.

    • @zzlai6235
      @zzlai6235 10 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      That's called jealousy, when David Garrett first broke the world record, many people also would've said he sold his soul to the devil. Nowadays, people have a new term for the phrase "selling one's soul to a devil", people call it 'cheating'... When people achieve great results, people who are jealous will claim that they cheated...

    • @RichardFeynmanRules
      @RichardFeynmanRules 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Damion Lai Yes, sadly, that is common, and alas, too often, real cheating too...Lance Armstrong comes to mind, in a sport where arguably nearly *everyone* cheats in some way, if they can...

    • @veevintage2619
      @veevintage2619 10 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Damion Lai Every time a person does something extraordinary the prudes attribute it to it being "ungodly" because there's no one else in the world who can do it. David garret is an EXCEPTIONAL talent and I can see why they'd pick him for the role of N. paganini. I watched the movie and I have to say he's no great actor, but I'd watch it again and again because seeing him and listening to him play those "devilishly wonderful" pieces is a delight to ALL the senses!!

      Paganini only published the 24 Caprices as violin study pieces, but to make a living he had to tour Europe and orchestral pieces were written to accompany him-however as you can see, the notes on the page are inferior to the man himself, with the first chair and conductor struggling to keep up

    Whenever I hear beautiful music like this I close my eyes and imagine it is Erik from Gaston Leroux’s Phantom Of The Opera playing for Christine.
    I have read the book over 60 times since I was 14 years old and I love all the music that the author mentions in the story. I can picture Erik playing the violin or a piano or organ. But I can especially imagine him singing with the voice of an angel.
    My favorite part of the book is when Erik has brought Christine to see his rooms below the opera house. He shows her his bedroom and Christine sees the notes to Dies Irae written in red all over the walls. Then she notices the coffin and Erik tells he that is where he sleeps.
    Many people would be scared to see such a sight but I would be enraptured as I am sure Christine was.
    I hope this has inspired many of you reading these words to read the book. Please. You won’t regret it.

      Levente Molnár scuse me!!!
      I am Italian I hi hi hi. ..
      Niccolò is the best violinist for ever.
      Heifetz not is the best violinist maybe the best violinist in 1900...but there are many violinist similar heifetz for example milstein, menuhin, stern.....
      Many regards! !!!!
      ;---)
      Niccolò is God of violin and your music for me is the best is this world because is so malinconic , lyrical and violinistic for example concerto of bramhs not is liric and violonistic....For me there are many beautiful concert for violin but music of Niccolò is simple Unic and super beautiful absolutely.

    This guy writing down Paganinis works can be Franz Liszt.
    He looks very similar to his portraits from 1830's (exept of the hair color, but maybe because of the lights...)
    Liszt has actually rewritten some of Paganini's works (called Grandes études de Paganini) so this could be a reference dedicated to pepole who know it.
    I'm not sure, if it's true. Correct me, if I'm wrong.

    David Garrett é um virtuoso violinista teuto-americano que nasceu em Aachen, Alemanha, filho de uma bailarina americana (Dove-Marie Garrett), e um advogado e leiloeiro alemão (Georg Peter Bongartz). Aqui ele interpreta o "lendário" (porém muito real) compositor e violinista italiano que revolucionou a arte de tocar violino, e deixou a sua marca como um dos pilares da moderna técnica de violino, Niccolò Paganini, no filme The Devil's Violinist (ou, O violinista do diabo). Talvez tenha sido assim que, verdadeiramente, nasceu o moderno Showbiz (e a tietagem desenfreada).
