Markov does not only play Paganini. I can feel him and convey the emotional state of this old master. By this, he surpasses so many maestros who are trying hard to emulate what Paganini wanted to tell us. We are fortunate to live in this time. I believe the composer would be proud to hear this. Perhaps even weep of joy.
Yes this is correct. Vieuxtemps was in that lineage of violinist-composers that started with Paganini. Berlioz said, "If Vieuxtemps was not a violinist performer, he would be a great composer." Well - he was both, although his output of compositions was smaller compared to Wieniawski and some others. And yes, Markov may be known as a Paganini specialist like Accardo and Ricci but he is very versatile actually and plays a lot of other things. In fact there is a new disc out with some more of Vieuxtemps works that he is playing. I first discovered Alexander through his disc of the Vieuxtemps Concertos #2, 4, and 5 which he made many years ago. And after seeing his Paganini Caprices Complete live performance, I really took interest in his musical activities.
Whenever I listen to the pizzicato by Markov I'm under the impression that there must be some trick to it, like a violin can't sound that way doing that.
I really think with the hair, dress sense, and exaggerated movements .... he really *does* think he's Paganini reborn.... and I don't know how to feel about that :/
@@mikhaillindan9091 I didn't mean in a good way... I meant it's more like an Elvis impersonator. Yes, with talent, but not the original. There's no charm in my opinion.
Wow wow wow! I can’t fully describe how wonderful this concert is to me! The musicianship is outstanding and the playing is so moving. The concerto has to be one of the best compositions in the violin repertoire, brilliantly played and the caprice is out of this world!
Vieuxtemps #5 is not one of those pieces that you would ordinarily hear on a major orchestra subscription concert series. Instead, it's more one of those "contest pieces" - and in fact, Vieuxtemps wrote it in about 1859 as an examination piece at the Brussels Conservatory. It is often heard in something like a Sunday afternoon concert nowadays actually, but in past times (100 years ago'ish), violinists played it on recital programs with piano. In one movement, it literally encompasses everything that a great violinist has to be able to do. It is not as difficult as the Paganini Concertos but it totally gives the opportunity for the violinist to show how much technical and musical equipment they have. I personally love single movement concertos and this one is just amazingly good. It's not long enough really, but so fun to play. I learned it when I was about 17 and to this day, I play it through sometimes just to make sure I still have it in my hands. Or just play passages from it as exercises - there are four or five really good exercises you can do with the arpeggios and chord passages. And the cadenza...one of the best ever written. Markov is an outstanding performer and I have listened to his discing of Vieuxtemps Concertos (#2, 4, 5) forever.
Paganini propably would jelous this. Once u meet this guy is hard to forget him. Paganini no2. Lucky us to see this exceptional perform. Alexander.. u have my respsect.
Absolutely God. = the expression of the strings in terms of signals amplificated, moving it around of a rithmical resonance sounds and vibrating like an electrical field and at the same time, oscillating in a determined frequency wave... IT makes that the Moment be like a incredible miracle.

@@BenjiOrthopedic -- EXACTLY......Bravo from Acapulco!
Still the best.
the pizzicato always gets me, he was and still is - in my opinion, the best performer of all of Paganini's Caprice
Couldn't agree more
Whenever I listen to the pizzicato by Markov I'm under the impression that there must be some trick to it, like a violin can't sound that way doing that.
Meraviglioso!
I saw his performance of like 20 years before this and this one is just as striking
His pizzicato variation is hands down the BEST on the market
I love him, he just came to my school today to perform. It was awesome!
You are very lucky!!! Is he doing that as a world tour like travel, or is he just performing in a few specific regions?

With all due respect, The Son of Paganini himself, Alexander Markov.
Please give us more of this beautiful orchestra and soloist!

Alexander should do the rest of the Paganini concertos. 3, 4, 5 and 6.
