I’m 26, my first car was a 65 mustang. Actually, it was 3 mustangs my dad saved from the scrapyard. He told me at 15 that I had to build my first car. Spent the next 2 years every night and weekend turning those 3 into 1 good one. So all my love for cars and working on them started with that mustang. Still have it and going to put a toploader in it next.

I don't blame you for that I love my 2011 5.0 but I would trade it in a heartbeat for a 60s mustang fastback but I'm looking to get a 65 or 67 coupe in the next few years to go with my 2011 5.0 and foxbody lx
I just bought a 64 1/2 Mustang a couple days ago at 20 years old and it’s been awesome so far! Lots of great reactions and simple mechanics to make for a great car.
Unpopular opinion: the new generation has a HUGE love for old school cars, it's just that the economy makes it tougher to restore cars. Classics are expensive and parts are as well. Combine that with how cost of living has increased over the years, and it becomes extremely hard for most people in the 15 to 25 range to try to rebuild cars. I has a 68 camaro and a 72 Chevelle that I spent all my childhood savings on. When my family came on hard times, I had to sell the 68 and the years later I lost the 72 in the large 2016 flood in Louisiana. At that time, I couldn't afford another as I was paying for college. Now I currently have a 64 mustang and a 66 caprice Classic. My love for classics will never fade ❤🙏🏿
i’m in the same boat i’m 20 and i’ve had my 68 f100 shortbed 390 4spd since i was 16 and have been slowly restoring it. check out Thecraig909 he posts a ton of awesome f100 content
I just turned 40 and when I was 7 I rode in my uncle's restored 67' mustang coupe. So my first car at 15 was a 66' coupe. Body was pretty good because it was a Florida car and I spent the next three years tearing it apart and making it better than it had ever been! It was some of the hardest learning curve and hardest work I ever did and it was 100% worth it. It wasn't a drag car but it still ran in the 12's on a 289 hi-po from Jasper racing motors. I love lot's of cars but nothing beats an American muscle car for feeling and fun. I wish more kids got to have some of the experiences I had because it really is a great marker in history for making a car be whatever you want and looking damn good doing it. Nice video and Cheers!
I’m 25 and I LOVE classic muscle cars more than new modern cars! Doesn’t matter what car, corvette, Camaro, Charger, challenger, c10, f100, Apache, GTO, impala, chevelle, nova, etc! My dad owns a 4 door impala, I wanna get a 60s Mustang someday
Haven't watched the video yet, but ever since I was 4 I've wanted an old school mustang and don't care how good or bad a car they actually are. I'm not even 20 and definitely an exception to the modern jdm thing
@@JimmyTheNuge It doesn't matter if you set are record lap at the nürnrugring or drive 5mph. It's all about the experience, the engine rumbling, and the manual gearbox. A perfect match and a piece of history. Go and drive your boring Prius

I'm huge into classics too. However, I haven't really bought a classic yet. I think one of the biggest reasons that our generation doesn't like the classics is because its too foreign and special. We grow up on fuel injected modern cars with creature comforts, 60's cars are totally different beast. I think there is a 'feeling' of driving a car. A 60's car drives SO much different than a 90's car. At-least with a 90's car I feel like I can everyday drive, it has some safety features, drives decently in all weather conditions. etc. It requires less effort to drive. It has an ease about it that a 60's car doesn't have. Its familiar and modern. You can also daily drive it and not worry about parts, maintience, or even just dealing with the car, you can simply enjoy the car. On safety, Cars from the 60's don't have ABS, traction control, etc etc. I mean yes, we can drive cars that are less safe, but its still LESS SAFE at the end of the day. Its a risk to consider. Even on regular needs, cars from the 60's don't even have power steering usually, and other creature comforts. Cars from the 60's, while fun, are also more of a chore to drive. 60's cars are more like weekend cruisers, special-event type cars. They're of a different status and usage. A delicacy. 90's cars are something you can take on a cross-country trip and actually enjoy it due to it being no hassle, you can daily drive it, pull it out in different weather, rack up miles, and its way easier to own, fix, and maintain. 90 cars are maximum enjoyment with the least hassle. They're kind of the pinnacle of that in my opinion.
I had a 1965 Mustang as my first car at 18. It was fun for a bit, but I'm glad I sold it. It would catastrophically break down every month like clockwork because I couldn't afford to properly restore it while in college. Oh, and it didn't have seat belts at all, lol. I wouldn't mind having another one as a project car in the future, but I'm more into JDM cars now like you mentioned in the intro.
These videos with Detroit Speed have been by far the coolest reviews on cars I have seen on youtube, and I am saying this as a JDM guy. I wish I saw builds like these more often!
I’m 27 and currently looking out my window at my 1966 mustang 🤤 this generation not being as interested in the older mustang are really missing out! By far my favorite car in my driveway
Howdy, millennial here with a 1968 coupe that my dad and I started putting together as a restomod when I was 14, my first car and I still love it to death.
I have a 1967 ford falcon that I drive. Just drove it 370miles in 2 days back and forth from the James Dean festival. Mild built 302 c4 trans. I wish more people of my generation and maybe kids slightly younger gave the classics more love. Its a different experience for sure.
They can be easy to work on, if its in good shape. I think they get a bad name more so due to people trying to use old worn out ones instead of getting it rebuilt or getting a replacement. When they ware out, they are a pain to keep any consistency from them. Also they need to be cleaned way more often than a modern age guy would think. Also, rebuilding them is the noneasy part, which I feel turns some people off to them. Just a lack of understanding that carbs need special attention once and a while, and they probably need to be freshin up if they have been sitting for 20+ years lol. Something that would be common knowledge to someone 40-50+ years old.
@@RealJerb that’s true but a good carb will make an old worn out engine scream! Aslong as the carb itself is in working order your good. People act like these modern fuel injection cars won’t be a nightmare in 20 years

David, that should be your next Mustang build...a 3.5L EcoBoost...you have mentioned wanting a vehicle with that engine in a lot of your videos...perhaps if a vintage one would be too much money up front, maybe look at a fox body or S95 gen...that would be seriously epic. The other cool thing about the EcoBoost, is they are pretty quiet, but can have lots of power, especially if you put larger injectors and tuning (before the next evolution, bigger turbos).

The fastest I’ve ever gone in a car was 160 in a 66 Mustang with a built 289 in it. It was red with black interior and was my friend Ricky’s car when we were in high school back in the early 90’s. Have so many good memories from that car and those days!! The good ole days.👌🏽😂😅
2:50 FYI; the Edsel wasn’t “sloppy,” it was AWESOME! It wasn’t marketed correctly AT ALL!! The Edsel was a premium piece; slightly above Mercury, think about it as if Ford made a line of cars to support the T-Bird. Think Toyota Avalon, not a Lexus, but is some ways better! America wasn’t ready for that type of differentiation yet. Edsel Ford had been dead for several years from the ulcers he’d accumulated from dealing with his father. Do some research; Edsels were hella nice Bro!
I LOVE IT!!!!! That is the best part of all!!!! I LOVE TO RETROFIT NEW PARTS ON THE EDSEL. THAT BOLT ON AND LOOK FACTORY!!!! SO SIMPLE !!!! AND SO BEAUTIFUL!!!! GREAT VIDEO & THANKS FOR SHARING!!!
I disagree with that statement, I live in the UK and have a 66 Mustang Coupe. I'm 21 and bought her when I was 19, every show I go to people adore them and have a deep passion for them. From my age to the older people, but that might be because there a lot rarer in the UK 🇬🇧 🤔
I love making old stuff relevant, the 3rd gen camaro is about as expensive as I want to get, but I took a rebuilt vortec 350 with a 4barrel intake and multi port bungs from “Marine power” ( intake comes setup for a carb with pipe plugs in the injector bungs ) so I got some Chinese fuel rails, and 4150 style throttle body and I’m controlling it with an eprom emulator and tuner studios software that allows the use of a wideband so that this ancient ecu can now “auto tune” its base map and I can build the motor into whatever I want. And the great thing is that the tuning changes can be done while the engine is running so you can see in real time what your changes are doing
My son, who is 22, is into that JDM scene. But he cut his teeth and still works on the old school stuff. He works at a little restoration shop and he can do it all!
We have a 70s Mach 1 fastback for sale around here in my town in missouri for $2500. Full Mach 1 shell and I think interior that I know of. I live in Springfield. There are also fully restored mostly or all original ones around here for sale too. See a nice blue one almost every day and a black one that can see the road again one day if someone wanted to put in the work.

Have a 65 289 that belonged to my Grandmother always was in the garage in process of upgrading the brakes and suspension everything else is in really good shape repainted once in mid 90s candy apple red with black vinyl top
hahaha I was parting out one of those at work today. took the fenders, bumpers, seats, gauges, carburetor, etc off/out. My boss has like 4 others that the parts will go into
Well, ever since I knew about cars and looks I was automatically hooked onto classics, not into 90s jdm as much. 60s pony cars or muscles are the best.
David talked about not being able to find shells in great condition, you can find brand new shells for 65 to 68 mustang for $18.5k from Dynacorn Body Shells
@@fastec5 I mean, depends on things like: inline 6 cars vs v8 cars, makes a HUGE difference, inline 6 cars running can be had 5k-10k. And what someones definition of "good condition" is. Still, I have seen the brand new dynacorn bodys for sub 15k in the past. Definitely shells from peoples unfinished projects can be found for way under 10k if you look hard enough.

Let's be thankful some companies now sell full reproduction shells with the firewall, doors and trunk. It's more expensive, but it saves a lot of time and trouble. I'd love to build a fresh one myself.
I daily drove a 65 Mustang for like 6 years now. And yes, it had issues. But the shell is still good with no rot anywhere and I even drove it on long road trips a few times. And the mod list I drempt up for it is endless. I even considered a 2JZ engine swap but with those going for 6 grand used now for the vaunted GTE version, its pretty unlikely. So if I was gonna do a Japanese engine I figured I better make it a V8 like a 1uz or VH41 or something. Definitely want a manual overdrive transmission and definitely want AC. Also considered new lights. In stock form, the 200hp V8 and 3 speed auto combo is sluggish off the line but they get the job done (most of the time). The stock Ford carb is ehh. All 4 drum brakes non assisted aren't great for high speed stops but they do work. I had it radio swapped because I dont like AM radio and the fact that it still looks stock is nice. I run the stock suspension and its very soft which is a double edged sword. Yes its a nice ride, but it also doesnt handle corners well. Typical for back then.
I used to have a 64 1/2 mustang but the floor was completely rusted and didn't have the money to restore it so I had to sell it. I really want another one some day
I'm 58, my Dad pulled up for child visitation in a beat, 65 coupe, 289/with a C4. This began my restoration skills training, and car mania then started at 11 yrs old. We did that restoration, and then a daily driver 66 coupe/with a 3 speed stick. I still have his 47 Ford street Rod, and especially that 65 coupe, which now has a 302 and an AOD. Currently building a 65 GT350 clone, its still a ways from driving... The point is, if you get into this at a young, and impressionable age, it could become a lifestyle, if yer not careful. No regrets. Be passionate about something, otherwise what's point of being here 😉?
I once spent all night hotwiring an abandoned rubber bumper MG Midget sportscar. Once I got the steering lock off, I ran into my next problem - the battery was dead. I walked down the street and popped the hood on a 65 Mustang to steal the battery. It was from there on zoom zoom down the street to pump up at the gas station that had just opened at 6am, then back to put the hood back on the Midget... pick up my girlfriend, and by noon we were headed south on the interstate.... Yep, I passed up a running classic mustang for a british piece of cr@p! The Mustang looked like a sedan to me, I had no interest... I wanted a hot little sportscar... and it turned out to be the right pick, too, because that sucker got 50mpg highway!
When I was a kid in the late sixties early seventies older kids of driving age would raise the rear end of most every muscle car. I never see that anymore.
I've got 2 dream cars, neither of which I'll ever be able to own or do what I want to them if I managed to find one at a decent price. I want a 49 mercury coupe, chop top on air bags, matte black paint, fat white wall tires on classic style rims. Red interior. ORRR I want a late 60's impala sedan, yes I'm a supernatural fan and no my love for old impala's didn't stem from the show.
Personally, I prefer the late 90s to early 2000s vehicles. In a way, those are classic cars nows. The 60s and 70s era of vehicles have been classics since they were 20 years old, so it's only fair to think of the 90s cars as classics now.
I'm 22 building a 1979 mustang coupe and it's getting a big block 460 with nitrous and a 3 speed auto behind it. I'm thinking mystichrome for the paint

I feel you on the whole old car look. I had a Dodge Dart RT with hemi the inside matched the outside . I miss my 74 Dart RT hemi, it was my first car.
I think there will always be enough people to keep the classics going. I don't know many old people that own classic cars either.
I’ve been around the track with Kyle tucker, he’s a really nice guy and Detroit speed is an awesome company.
Sounds amazing and that tire/wheel fitment is 🔥🔥
I love making old stuff relevant, the 3rd gen camaro is about as expensive as I want to get, but I took a rebuilt vortec 350 with a 4barrel intake and multi port bungs from “Marine power” ( intake comes setup for a carb with pipe plugs in the injector bungs ) so I got some Chinese fuel rails, and 4150 style throttle body and I’m controlling it with an eprom emulator and tuner studios software that allows the use of a wideband so that this ancient ecu can now “auto tune” its base map and I can build the motor into whatever I want.
35 and I want a 71 Mach 1 or a Torino.
I’m from this generation and that mustang is my dream car
Cool dream car to have for sure brother. If you love Mustangs. I do a lot of Mustang videos. Subscribe to get cool content. Have a lot of things coming up
In 1968 my dad must have been a bad boy. He bought my mom a coupe. I was twelve. I would take it out after midnight. The canonical joy ride.
I bought my 1st car at 16 (2 years ago) and I’ll never sell it and got a tattoo of it for my birthday
Cars become sentimental. That’s when they aren’t just cars anymore
Have a 65 289 that belonged to my Grandmother always was in the garage in process of upgrading the brakes and suspension everything else is in really good shape repainted once in mid 90s candy apple red with black vinyl top
I’d have to say I’m loving the restomods. Interesting and new!
hahaha I was parting out one of those at work today. took the fenders, bumpers, seats, gauges, carburetor, etc off/out. My boss has like 4 others that the parts will go into
Well, ever since I knew about cars and looks I was automatically hooked onto classics, not into 90s jdm as much. 60s pony cars or muscles are the best.
There is a 65 mustang in my garage that was my grandfather's but it's a roller now in a million pieces lol
Jymmi Newtron you got time.. put it together and drive it
I never liked these sort of mustangs , but this one looks bloody sick
David talked about not being able to find shells in great condition, you can find brand new shells for 65 to 68 mustang for $18.5k from Dynacorn Body Shells
Around me full blown running ones are going for 25 grand. I won’t list my location done want any of you taking them!
@@mercury0214 lmao
Ive seen them run for less at times too.
Bro what? Guys I'm constantly seeing them sub $10k running driving cars down near me lmao
I'm currently building a restromod 1986 Mustang four eye! When I'm done I'd love for you to take it for a drive!
Cool Mann. Mustangs have something special to it. if you love Mustangs. I do a lot of Mustang videos. Subscribe to get cool content. Have a lot of things coming up
Let's be thankful some companies now sell full reproduction shells with the firewall, doors and trunk.
I love watching all your videos I just wish more people liked the old cars I do
I have a 65 Mustang and it's funny. People either love it or they skip over it to look at a bagged S550
I used to have a 64 1/2 mustang but the floor was completely rusted and didn't have the money to restore it so I had to sell it. I really want another one some day
You said younger ppl dont like them, I love jdm but i love my 65 mustang so much more
Before I even watch yes. Yes it is
I’d say my mustang is my favorite classic I have a white 66 mustang coupe I love it
Currently saving up for one of these
nice stance, nice rims and good size etc...
Been looking for a video like this for a while 😂 dope vid man!
Check this out! If you love Mustangs. I do a lot of Mustang videos. Subscribe to get cool content. Have a lot of things coming up
TJ hunt taking inspiration from you again.
Loving the classic vibes! We need you to combat the mustang with a clean second gen chevy corvair episode!
I mean that's because we didn't grow up with those cars on the front pages of magazines and commercials. Still wonderful cars!
The first time I drove my 66 mustang to school, man you should have seen the looks I got
Saw this one and immediately clicked
I own a 66. Love it
I love this video so so much nostalgia in it classic is Gold in my eyes 👀 this car was the birth of a legend 🔥💪🏼💪🏼🔥🔥
The 67 and 68 Mustang. My very favorite is the 69 Mustang 🐎
id love any car before '09, i dont dislike modern cars, just fine they a bit over done but alot are still cool AF
60s fastback mustang is my dream car
Younger generation is interested but, a 200sx costs 8k here and an old mustang 60k so... yeah
71-73 needs more admiration
Who else trying to start a TH-cam channel in 2020. Let's build. ❤
My younger brother just sold his red 66 restore and he's going to cry when he sees this video 😭
my favourite generation mustang
Same. Such a beautiful design. If you love Mustangs. I do a lot of Mustang videos. Subscribe to get cool content. Have a lot of things coming up
Personally, I prefer the late 90s to early 2000s vehicles.
2:45 I'm not sure you realize what an understatement that is. In the first year and a half of production, Ford sold one MILLION Mustangs!
hi David. nice vid. liked b4 watching b/c I knew it was going to b good
My all time fav!!!
I daily my 64-1/2 mustang no issues
awesome car. Nice review
My grandfather has a 65 fast back in red
Love the classic content thx
Mustangs have something special to it. if you love Mustangs. I do a lot of Mustang videos. Subscribe to get cool content. Have a lot of things coming up
There’s actually one before this the 1964.5
The 64 and a half were really 65s released in 64.
Eric G yup
Yeah, as far as the title would be concerned, they are 1965's. But the "real ones" know
Not a fan of those rims, but the car is gorgeous.
