Standard primetime weekend TV when I was a teenager. Musical variety shows like Jackie Gleason, Steve Allen and Ed Sullivan. Great entertainment by real professionals. Those were the days.

I can't agree that King Curtis was underrated. Curtis Ousley was Aretha's musical director and very well respected in the music biz. Cut down in his prime for sure.

King Curtis was one of the warm up acts before the Beatles played at Shea Stadium in 1965! John Lennon remembered King in ‘ 71 and got him to play on his iconic “Imagine” album!

Wow! Eight trombones? Never seen that many in any big band or jazz orchestra. And as far as I can see, looks like there are two bass trombones: one at the very far right hand end of the group, and the other one is the guy 4th in from the right end.
    .
Also, I've never seen a conductor hold a cigarette the whole time! Like to see that at some symphony concert someday ... Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony ... or Bach's Bminor Mass ... guy standing there leading the orchestra .. Marlboro in his hand.
