  • The UXG-Lite is here to replace the old USG! In this video we look at the specs of the UXG, see what comes in the box, compare it to the Apple AirPort Express (because they look similar) and then compare it to the USG.
We then take a look at the GUI of the UXG-Lite, set it up and get it adopted to a HostiFi UniFi Controller. Before you get started, make sure your UniFi Network Application is running 8.0.7 or later as this is the minimum version that the UXG-Lite supports.

Just migrated USG to UXG-Lite. Did not really have to do too much. Replace the physical unit with new one. Open a browser to my UCK's IP address, remove USG, and adopt UXG. All previous setting remained intact. Running IPS/IDS without performance impact. Speed test went from 100MB to 900MB. Gateway CPU utilization went from 80% to 30%.

Good job Alex. I just got a new one to test. There's a big need for these.

Is this the same as the UniFi Express?

Hey Joe, thanks for watching. While the UXG-Lite and UniFi Express (UX) look similar, they are very different devices.
UXG-Lite is a replacement for the USG and can be adopted to a UniFi Application, like HostiFi. It doesn't run any controller software on device.
The UX (UniFi Express) meanwhile is an entry level Cloud Console and runs the UniFi Software on device. It can manage five UniFi devices and can be adopted to an external UniFi Application. Howrvwer, once it is adopted to another Application it only runs as an AP.
      Hope that helps!

Some really curious how do I do this if I’m running a self hosted controller? The part that tripping up is the controller is getting its IP address from the existing UDR if I remove the UDR I lose access to the controller, so how do I onboard the UXG in that scenario? From the USG to a UDR last summer, and it was fine because the UDR active as its own controller, but moving to a UXG is a little bit baffling.

If replacing USG will it migrate the port forwarding rules through the Cloud Key?

That's a good question. Has someone tested this?

Yes I have tested it migrate all configurations

Thanks for watching - When migrating from the USG to UXG, the UniFi controller saves that configuration so when you migrate all of those settings will also move across.

UXG throughput 85 mbps ... interesting, in the Zywall firewall throughput is 1600 mbps, why?

    • @hostifi
      @hostifi  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thanks for watching, the USG can do around 900mbps. 85mbps is if everything is turned on (IPS/IDS, QoS)

Not really too surprising on the form factor now as the founders of Ubiquiti are former engineers from the fruit company (Apple)

Waiting 20+ years for some genius to just start making 192.168.2 or any other number other than 0 and 1 as the default for a router. Am I really so much smarter than ANYONE at ANY of these companies. Just change the freaking default IP to something that won't conflict. 🤣🤣🤣

A lot easier to only have to guess between 0 and 1 when first setting up, or after you’ve needed to reset a device.
