    Thanks for the video!!
    I powered up the UXG Lite and connected the lan port to the my network. Plugged the UXG and connected . I saw that the UXG was recognized . Then I removed the USG with the app, plugged the wan connection into the UXG and then adopted the UXG with via the UniFi app. Easy peasy!!
    I immediately notice that my web pages opened faster. I ask my wife who did not know what I was doing and she said that she noticed that the web pages loaded much faster.
    Way to go Ubiquiti!!!

    Would it be wise to move from my Edgerouter 4 to a UXG, I'd rather have a UDM SE, but I am working out of a 10 inch rack intentionally (Kinda like the SFF build of the networking world). I have a couple of VPNS to a couple of cloud providers, 10 VLANS, tons of firewall rules and a concurrent 1gb internet connection. I did see there was anew beta build for the ER-4 with a complete redesign of the UI making me wonder if the project is still alive again or if they are just worried about a reskin instead of potentially adding more features.

    Thank you for this review from Montreal! You're the first I've seen that's provided data on routing performance with IDS/IPS and Smart Queues. This is all anybody really needs to know. If it works for your application, great, if not, move on. We have deployed literally hundreds of ER-X because of the high performance in a small package (compared to original USG). This comes in at double the price, but at least stays within the UniFi ecosystem. Decisions decisions!

    • @JacksonCampbell
      @JacksonCampbell ปีที่แล้ว

      I just found out the ER-X only does 500mbps because of something with the chip or something on the ER-X and ER-X-SFP. I was disappointed, because I had thought they were gigabit. There's not a different EdgeRouter in that price range or size, otherwise I would be using a different device to ensure gigabit availability.

    • @cmoullasnet
      @cmoullasnet ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JacksonCampbell They can route at gigabit speeds. Google “er-x hardware offload”. You just need to run a couple of commands and it will work at line speed just fine. You can’t do that with software features like smart queues or DPI though.

    • @yuriykorenyak2351
      @yuriykorenyak2351 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JacksonCampbell ER-X can do simultaneous gigabit, and UXG-Light can't. As usual, Ubiquiti will not have regular releases for entry line products as well, which is comparable with edgerouter support. Honestly, both of them is a waste of money in 2023.

    • @JacksonCampbell
      @JacksonCampbell ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yuriykorenyak2351 You're wrong about all of that. ER-X is limited to 500mbps because of a limitation of the link to the switch or something. UXG Lite definitely does gigabit. Not sure what you mean about support for them. They are both getting updates. And they are both good deals for what they are.

    Anyone knows if it's possible to disable the NAT between WAN and LAN Port? Since i need to have NAT been done on the device infant of the WAN port and set a fixed route. This is how I do it on my USG. But the USG hat console access, so it was passible to manually change firewall rules. AFAIK you do not have a console access on the UXG...

  • @EastyUK
    @EastyUK 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Seems like a catch22 on installation if you use a lan based unify server.
    On setup it wants me to switch the wan connection to the uxg-lite (as you showed) then for console it says offline as we obviously unplugged the original dhcp server, and it’s not yet assigning IPs for the lan.
    Do I need to have it as a different subnet and then somehow allow it to see the original network just to get it adopted?
    Seems like if they had it default as a dhcp server this wouldn’t be an issue. Any tips?

As is I would honestly recommend the Unifi Dream Router for most configurations even if you don't need the integrated wifi. After all it's been about 7 years since I put the USG-3P into service and I can't remember what I did. So from your video, it appears that the only thing you need to do is unplug the USG-3P and power up the UXG-Lite and swap the LAN and WAN cables, and make sure you remove the USG-3P from your network before you adopt the UXG-Lite, and that's it???????? You sure there isn't anything else that needs to be done to ensure everything stays the was it was with the USG-3P???? If not, that's relieved a lot a concern I've been having about getting one.

    As much as it has been a long time coming, the long time also shows Ubiquiti's commitment to the hardware they manufacture. The USG and USG Pro have been supported for 10 years and even though they are now (as of this comment) moved to legacy, they are still working and adotable in new systems. Not many companies provide FREE support for hardware for that long.
    The new gateways that Ubiquiti have now (as of my comment, not time of the video) now fill those holes that were previously present. I think there is now an option for everyone, whether it be the mum and dad wanting a plug and play all in one, or the enterprise network engineer and everyone in between. The previous complaints about limitations of the Unifi gateways, and what led many people to use third party gateways, have pretty well been addressed now. I think now you could go all in and have a UniFi gateway, to make it all the UniFi ecosystem and not have complaints about the speed, capacity or feature sets.

However I see quite some issues with the lite on the Ubiquiti forum. Loopback/hairpin not working, SSH stability issues, adopt loops of all network elements after adopting the UXG lite, etc. So I'll wait a bit till we have more stable firmware & controller software. Additionally I still can't fully figure out how to exactly adopt the new gateway when the controller is on a different than default subnet without loosing all my settings.

    Does the controller need to be running 24/7 for the equipment to work? Or can I just run the controller on my laptop to get the equipment up and running and for when I need to make modifications and then shut it down? And all my equipment will still work? What is the point or need of running the controller 24/7?

    • @ananamusly

      No it doesn't need to run 24/7. It's just for monitoring, really. I've had one setup on my laptop. Worked fine. Nowadays I bought a mini pc from Amazon and put the controller on that and let it run 24/7. It's just good to have something you can remotely access if you are away and check on things.

      This is more for MSPs and similar use cases, as you would need a console to connect it to.

      @@kensingh9527 Yes, for an all-in-one, it's great. By 'step up' I meant away from the all-in-one units, in which case it'd be the UDM Pro which is just unreasonable. I think the biggest complaint for me is the gigabit ports. I think the ports should’ve been 2.5, at least. We need to start ditching gigabit because multi-gigabit is the future. No affordable products(under $200?) have 2.5 for WAN and LAN yet. I recently got fiber for the first time and my ISP has a router with a 2.5 WAN port, but the LAN port is 1gb so I think that’s a waste too. The industry is moving so slow for household multi-gigabit.

      I'm on the fence. I've had multi gig available where I am for the last year or two. Still haven't upgraded due to the additional monthly cost, as well as the need to upgrade everything else in my house.
      Having said that, the Brume 2, which has a 30% faster processor, is like $70. It also has a 2.5 gb WAN port.

    The value of this new router isn't as good as a Dream Router with its built-in controller, AP, and switch. If you are running your own Unifi server in the cloud for a lot of devices, it could be useful, but it seems like they could cut $30 off, and it makes more sense.

    No PoE, only 1 Gbps. In addition the current software is broken beyond believe. Create a VLAN, create a SSID. It should be a guest / isolated network. But turning this option on, that worked in the old USG well, will make your clients on that SSID not get any DHCP addresses and not get internet. Only workaround currently is to make the network not a 'guest' network. Which means it will be able to talk to all other devices. The hole guest / corporate network shizzle makes the actual configuration of that brick even hard for network experts because ubnt tries to hide complexity behind proprietary gimmicks that make the actual effective configuration as un-transparent as it gets. And then they don't even work the way they should on release day because the customer is their alpha tester... Ubnt is only successful because the other network vendors for their customer scope are even worse (hard to believe...)
