I’ve had this thing for a month… it absolutely rips. Only downsides IMO are no shadow mode, and no option for redundant power supplies. But honestly, that’s not needed for residential use, and it’s absolutely perfect in my setup
I agree, I purchased mine the moment it dropped because it was exactly what I needed. The UDM-Pro (Base/SE) were both just a bit more than I needed (Home)but I also needed something that would allow for higher than 1Gbps speeds because my provider pushes 1.2Gbps to my home. So this thing was a God send, I do wish there was at least 1-2 PoE ports and having the redundant power would have been nice as you mentioned.
This little boy just sits in my rack being ready to switch over replacing my UXG Lite. I will do so tomorrow as I have a day off. I am using a self hosted network controller and defined a 2nd site where the UXG Max has been adopted to. Will remove the UXG Lite from my main site and move the UXG Max then over. That's the plan. Hope that works better than my switch from the USG 3P to the UXG Lite which was a pain (due to my own stupidity I would say). Great videos Cody 👍
For $40 a month for Unifi Network hosting, you could run your own baller Droplet server on Digital Ocean, which supports more than 100 devices and multiple networks. It's nice to see a refresh of the USG line.
I would love to see a comparison video, making sure to cover the limits of each (how many Unifi devices and how many client devices can be handled), which will help us know what deployments are valid for each unit. Thanks!
I currently have an edge router max with the first gen cloud key. On another video I was told that the cloud key and the gateway Max have to be on the same software version in order for me to migrate my settings. Is this true?
2:28 "I am going to call it Gatewaymax" ... and then proceeds in calling it Gatewayman. Classic typo! I have a ftizbox at home right now with incoming vlan6 for internet and vlan4 for iptv. Does the Unify device support multicast routing? Will I need any extra configurations to get iptv working over the same line that brings internet to my living room? Or will it just be plug and play and work straight out of the box for my internal network? My wife will do bad things to me if the TV stops working after upgrading :)
I know this came out before the cloud gateway max, but what's the point of these non-cloud versions when they're making cloud equivalent models for the same price?
I am relatively new to unifi.. Although I do have the 10gbit switch from the. Will this UXG max serve as a full firewall / router? To replace, say a pfsense/opensense box? Does it allow for full custom firewall rule definition and the likes?
I also really wish that this had a couple of poe ports. I just got a couple of U7 Pro access points in February and have been happy with them so I've been looking to complement them with a new firewall/router. Just not sure which would be better...this or the cloud gateway ultra...
Please do a comparison. Cost aside, is it worth it to have a separate Gateway Max or Gateway Pro over a UDM? Do you get any more security features in a dedicated gateway?
Does anyone know if the UXG max can run 4 U7 APs? Can I use the device as a cloud gateway to run network? The cloud gateway ultra is currently sold out in the US and the unifi express just isn't powerful enough for my deployment. Thanks!
Wow you really have to be careful about checking the feature set when choosing through the myriad of Ubiquiti offerings now. Any reason why I couldn't add a UXG Max to my UDR network? Could the UXG Max could handle my 1Gb x 1Gb fibre connection and IDS/IPS routing with 2.5G networking etc and use the UDR as controller and still use the on board PoE and Protect app? Not sure if we can split duties like that!
Hey Cody, Do you know if Ubiquity has VMs devices available to download so that we can adapt them to simulate hardware devices to a Server Console to learn with?
I don't understand your routing/speed tests. I have one and while it appears that is accurate about ips/ids up to 1.5gpbs the routing bandwidth without that on seems to be about the same. I see no difference when turning on or off adv security when testing routing speed across vlans on this device. both are typically in that 1.2-1.5gbps range.
@MactelecomNetworks at th-cam.com/video/JlEzxfFbmRY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=2SA044tHJOoyvV3-&t=145 , the $39 CAD for 100 devices mains Unifi Devices or total connected devices?
Total Unifi devices connected to that controller. You can make it multi-site . If you had 10 locations you could have 10 devices at each. Also the $39 a month is Canadian price
I love your cat. IT people that are dog people are dangerous. Only cat people can be trusted. Cody could you do some iperf tests on udm pro max and show us? 3 lan to lan simultaneously with 3 lan ports using internet to see lan to wan. I'm still trying to see the logic how exactly it performs. I have one pro max on it's way to me, that I'm going to use to replace SE that isn't handling 100 unifi devices and 350 client devices on 5 vlans at once.
Someone invested in the unifi ecosystem with a cloud key and an original usg can finally get a real router. But yeah, aside from a few niche cases, the gateway ultra makes more sense. It doesn't do 2.5g though.
Comparison video please. At this point it’s very confusing.
Yes please on the comparison.
Also nice cat😂
Cat FTW

What kind of speeds can it achieve when Smart Queue QOS is enabled? I’m maxing out my Edgerouter 4 smart queue processing power and need MOAR POWAH
Yup, a comparison would be nice!

hmm don't understand why iperf is only 1gb, assuming you have >2.5gb nic or just the built in one?
Hey Cody, yes please do a comparison video. Thanks for all the fun new videos of gear.

For sure you can host one for cheaper. I was just doing there’s for ease of use 😂
Ya I’m glad there is a refresh on the USG line
Got mine just a couple of days ago. So far so good. Need to explore more to take full advantage of it
I would love to see a comparison video, making sure to cover the limits of each (how many Unifi devices and how many client devices can be handled), which will help us know what deployments are valid for each unit. Thanks!
It needs just 1 or 2 POE ports and it would be perfect. Then you could power an Ultra switch or direct to an AP.
Could you by any chance do a comparison video on the UXG Max vs Cloud Ultra? I think that would be a very good video to see side by side
Question why do you need the cloud service ? Can you use the product with out getting the cloud service??
I currently have an edge router max with the first gen cloud key. On another video I was told that the cloud key and the gateway Max have to be on the same software version in order for me to migrate my settings. Is this true?
comparison video would be helpful
What’s the throughput with the Smart Queue enabled? That’s the one piece of information I need to determine if I should upgrade my ER4.

Witch unit i can used as a Modem?

is it really capable of manage a fiber 2,5 gb link ? I've read some limitation about upload speed on big data because it hasn't a big buffer.
Can i use a udm at another site as the controller? Effectively bridging the networks?
You could not. The UDMs are single site
Please do a comparison. Cost aside, is it worth it to have a separate Gateway Max or Gateway Pro over a UDM? Do you get any more security features in a dedicated gateway?
Very Interesting, Thank You!

does the UXG Max have the ability to run the controller without the hosted management ?
You would have to run a separate controller if you want the UXG Max. If you want a controller built in I would go with the UCG Max
Hey Cody,
Do you know if Ubiquity has VMs devices available to download so that we can adapt them to simulate hardware devices to a Server Console to learn with?
Unfortunately they do not
Could you have 4 offices with 4 USG MAX, their AP's and 1 controller?
Very Nice!
Please do a comparison video.

So is that acting like a router ? Can it be used instead of an Edge router ?
Yup it’s a router/firewall. You could use this instead of a edge router
@@MactelecomNetworks Thanks. And for events with 300-400 users would that do the job, is it enough powerful for routing all packets ?
I need a video showing how to migrate from a usg 3p
The numbers are all over the place. Everyone seems to be reporting different speeds. This is the most confusing gateway released =X
Please on the comparison.
2.5Gbps ports all around, but can't route 2.5Gbps with IDS/IPS?? Seems like a missed opportunity.
It can be controlled/adopted by a Unify Express can't it?
Probably not . If you did that then there would be two firewalls.
Although I didn’t try it out
Hope these HA mode, can't see any reason why they couldn't, only barrier would be UBNT themselves not wanting to do it.
Please let’s do a small house setup with the UGX max and No subscription.
$40 a month for a cloud controller. OUCH !!!
Not bad at all compared to others
Can't you still host your own local controller?
Ya 100% the cloud hosting would be more for MSPs

So "cloud" now means it has built in controller? Except that Gateway Express also has built in controller? Could the naming be more confusing?
Unifi gateway max has no built in controller same with the uxg pro and a few others.
I probably should do a comparison so it’s easier for people to
@@MactelecomNetworks Thats exactly my point. There seem to be no logic behind the naming.
At 39/month you're cheaper buying a new CKG2+, break even in about 8 months
