  • It's one of the most isolated -- as well as intriguing -- places in the world. It remains a British outpost smack in the middle of nowhere, deep in the South Atlantic. And while it's difficult to get to...this is a place you definitely want to visit. Welcome to the brave...old...world of the island of St. Helena. Watch our special segment, from an upcoming edition of The Travel Detective, on PBS.

    I recently visited there with my 88 year old mother, a Saint herself. This was my first visit and what struck me most apart from the scenic views, was the friendliness of the islanders and the very laid back way of life. It is isolated but if you really want to get away from it all, then this is the place for you.

      Definitely Jo'berg - but none at the moment due to coronavirus. I'm going for 2 weeks in October so hope the situation has improved by then.

      The Eglish are from what is now norther Germany .They are a germanic folk like the germans ,the dutch ,the frisiians ,the danes ,the norwegians ,the icelanders ,the goths ,the vandals ,franks. The Irish are Celts as the Scots ,the Welsh ,the most of the toda's french *or the gausls more rightly said) ,as the spanish (or iberoclets ) as the most of the belgians and the most of the northern italians and the southern Swiss. The Germanic foilks are clever and great in many ways but the Celtic folks also are worthy folks and if you Celts wish dearly all other folks to deem you worthy you should speak and write on Celtic not on english or on late latin. As for Saint Helena it is a so wonderful island amidst the endless ocean ! I loved its wonderful landscape and native trees and plants and If I could I would love to live there forever and take daily walks in the heavenly stillness of its so spellbinding natural settng !

    why does this place look freezing

    • @williamfulgham2010
      @williamfulgham2010 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't know about the freezing, because the coldest it ever gets is in the 50s (Fahrenheit) up on the higher elevations, but it may feel cold because of the constant wind.

    • @bridgetthompson2068

      The warmer months are Dec to March and it is warm all year round. It is windier the higher you go but I far from cold let alone freezing.

      @@bridgetthompson2068 the island is my dream destiny. I first started looking at it in 2016 when I was afraid Hillary Clinton was going to win the Presidency here in the US, and it scared me to death. I have been following the developments on Saint Helena ever since, and I agree with Peter Greenberg who produced a great video that there is no other place on Earth quite like Saint Helena, or as the Saints pronounce it, Santalena.
