Fun fact: planes that fly here from South Africa need to carry enough fuel to fly back to South Africa, since that's where the nearest diversion airports are located.

@@BanesPlanes Airlink, the South African airline that flies to St Helena in E190s, actually runs a monthly flight from St Helena to Ascension island... they recieved special permission to fly commercially to and from the military base... the only other "commercial" route from Ascension island is serviced by an RAF A330 that flies regularly to the UK.

Usually scheduled flights to St Helena land with a tailwind and then take off in the opposite direction avoiding the end of the runway with the turbulence issue. The Titan Airways 757 that first flew there did practice landings in both directions and managed ok, as noted here it is effected less by the wind sheer and has the power to go-around easily if something comes up.
Embraer 190 is the main plane that operates in this airport

Titan Airways has flown there with both a A320 and a 757 as well. Basically the only plane that could land on a runway of this length that gets upset by the turbulence is the 737.

Next video you should try either RAF Mount Pleasant or Port Stanley Airport in the Falklands. The latter now has a 918m runway. It had F4 Phantoms based there, with an extended 1900m temprary runway and land based arresting gear system. Quite unique if you ask me.
At present due to the current circumstances of the pandemic, flights are going directly from the UK with a technical stop in Accura. Landing can be at times challenging due to the wind sheer aswel as depending on season can also be heavy fog on that side of the Island. After arriving to this unique Island that is one is currently remaining Covid-19 FREE and well know for where Napoleon was exiled too and later died with his resting Tomb there - this is an amazing Island which is a unique gem in the South Atlantic Ocean. X
