  • I take no credit for the content of this Video. This is a 21 minute compilation of a series of Special Reports made by Richard Jones that were broadcast by ITV News Meridian in their 6pm News Programme between 30th Nov and 4th Dec 2015. I thought it would be nice to stitch them together for the wider world to view, especially the wider Saint Community in the UK and across the World so they could have a chance to view these lovely reports at a convenient time. The reports are currently available on the ITV Meridian News website along with interviews with other Saints and The Governor Mark Capes but not sure for how long. I hope ITV understand.
However, I live outside the Meridian Region I had to use the other channels option on my Sky Box to view - This option does not a record function - so these are taken using my Camcorder onto the TV Screen. I also was travelling in the Oxford area on the 4th segment - and was lucky to get to a TV screen, but the quality is not as good.
Those of you who watched the reports will notice that I have taken a lot of the repeat items out and the end and beginning of each report. Hopefully it flows Ok
That said I hope you enjoy this.

Travelled to St Helena last year for work. As you fly into the airport the Saints watch you come like a welcoming committee. People are friendly, the environment amazing and no fear of walking out in the evening. Have a special place in my heart for St Helena.

The Film "The last farewell" of the RMS will be available for sale in the next few weeks. The amazing film features life on the RMS St Helena which
includes the crew, the passengers and the last northbound voyage of the RMS St Helena visiting London.

I've seen and heard much criticism of the UK for keeping colonies however' watching this video the islanders have a very good structure there schools health law etc... The countries critical of colonialism are known to oppress and kill their own populations. Well done UK for the splendid care you've practiced with these and other people.

They're kept by the will of the local people, and not forced as people believe by far-left Liberals and those who don't have an inkling of how the system works. As with the Falklands, these Islanders want to remain British citizens by choice.

An island without a vessel is not an island.... I personally don't believe that they will have no vessel anymore. The cars and heavy cargo cannot be delivered by airplane.

coco. You are quiet correct. A lot has happened since this Video was published. The Airport did not open fully until October 2017. The RMS sailed for the last time from St Helena in Feb 2018 and has been replaced by a Cargo ship the MV Helena, which in fact by coincidence arrived at St Helena this morning on her 22nd Voyage. sthelenashipping.com/schedules/

Nothing much changed yet, did it? One flight a week?

    • @PaulBlake80

Not in the greater scheme of things due to metrological issues reducing the size of aircraft that can land at the airport, But has two scheduled flights per week in the Summer Season. As of this week on its 4th Anniversary of its certification, the airport has seen 190 scheduled, 29 Charters, 24 private, 6 military 7 calibration and most importantly 31 medivac flights. If you have not already seen it take a look at this video about the airport. th-cam.com/video/5-QejUTDCWw/w-d-xo.html

+Terry Kindblom Do you mean the one on the opening? If so it is 'My St Helena Isle' by Billy Ray Canfield from his Album 'My St Helena Isle' - Not available on any of the on line providers. RC as he is known is a Saint. If the haunting tune in the Meriden reports - that is Whistler Theme ny Mark Knofler - Available on ITunes that I know of

Judith Shipstad please explain how it has changed. I can imagine!

Judith. I have just returned from St Helena after a 4+ week stay there. The Airport is open but not for large commercial aircraft because of Wind Shear issues - Nothing has changed much apart from the Haul road be tarmacked and the new jetty in Rupert's nearing completion. (Issue with potential Rock Falls preventing opening I believe). I believe the changes will be slow and in keeping with Saint culture as the interim air service will just replace the RMS so no great influx of Tourists for a year or so then it will be have to be managed in line with infrastructure development which again should be slow & gradual I hope - so much that the changes should go unnoticed - I hope
