      And technically, Taylor, from what I can tell, never said to to Democratic, just to vote. But then the GOP knows that they can't win a straight up vote, so they are terrified of a large voter turnout.

    • @AdamBladeTaylor
      @AdamBladeTaylor 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Exactly. She doesn't tell people how to vote, simply to register and vote.
      But Republicans know that the more people who vote, the less chance they have to win. They have no policies and offer nothing to the American people (other than suffering). So they have nothing to drive turnout.
      It's why Republicans rely on voter suppression, illegal gerrymandering, illegal voter purges, and straight up election interference.

    Thank you for the commentary.
    There is an ACLU led case concerning law enforcement purchasing location data from app makers.
    Almost anyone can purchase this data.
    One of the fears is that states will purchase the data to track people seeking healthcare out of state.
    Carrying a phone into a medical office might not be a good idea.

    • @WBS001

      People need to realize that their phones are homing beacons for the cell towers. Yes, apps are required to ask for your permission to track your exact location, but the phone co's can pinpoint your position fairly precisely via triangulation. If your phone auto-connects to WiFi, there are records of said connection in every place that has WiFi through which you pass. Ditto Bluetooth. If you don't want to be tracked, you have the absolute power to turn these capabilities off when not in use. As Shawn said, get a Faraday bag. They work to prevent credit cards from being scanned remotely, and they can prevent signals from tracking your phone too!

    Perhaps we should treat AI depictions in media somewhat like GMOs in the food chain and require that they be identified clearly upon distribution rather than outright legislating against the use of the technology. Criminalization has never really been an effective way to control long-term behaviour.

    • @kanderson-oo7us
      @kanderson-oo7us 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      For most applications that's probably a solid response. However, using AI - or any method - to create sexualized images of a person without this consent needs to be criminalized.

      @@kanderson-oo7us To play Devil's Advocate I'll ask you if you're prepared to empty the art galleries of all the historic masterpieces? Surely the technology itself can't be the crime. Similar discussions took place about photographs versus paintings and traditional graphical creations.
      The opportunity to draw the legal line rests at the point of public distribution for profit (of any sort) or to cause malicious damage. That includes this kind of intent to cause reputational damage to a celebrity.
      I'm no legal expert but I'm sure they can find language to protect would-be victims without a sweeping technology ban.
      A couple days ago I watched an Anglo/Irish comedian's old standup act that included him showing crudely drawn sketches of their queen and her husband engaged in kinky forms of the marital act. I commented on how TH-cam was letting him get away with some of the *other* drawings but not the royal ones. The (then) royal couple literally had the power and the legal means to fight their own battle if they chose.
      We can't just make stuff illegal because it offends our personal sense of sexual propriety. Sexual or not, it has to be about the intent to inflict malicious harm on the targeted individuals. Fakes of celebrities have existed for ages. If they're illegal then they were ALWAYS illegal and that includes statues and drawings made by the ancient masters. I'm told the Vatican collection is full of nude gods, goddesses and cherubs.

FWIW, I think you might accuse me of using a false(imperfect) analogy, not a false equivalence. False equivalence is apples and oranges, not apples and sour crab apples. Analogies are never perfect. In the end, we can agree that all we need is a bit of finessing of the legal language that already exists.
      I could be pedantic and point out that some would find ALL nudity in public access (including any you personally admire) to be sexually perverted and want it banned as has always been the case. And although all agencies said that was wrong, the President (Obama) just shrugged his shoulders and signed a death warrant for the man who uncovered it, and thus shamed him.

    About the NSA thing: as I see it, the problem is not that a government agency is buying data on people they would need a warrent for. The real problem is that there is someone selling data a governemnt agency would need a warrent to get. Why is this legal?

    • @okkietrooy6841
      @okkietrooy6841 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Is handling stolen goods legal? In the Netherlands it is considered a crime. (heling). If you know you are buying stolen goods, you are considered to be part of the problem.
      The problem is, I think, that the NSA is using illegally acquired data. They buy and use these data but do nothing about the illegal activity. They make the illegal activity profitable.

    Just to be pedantic, Alligators aren't dinosaurs. They predate dinosaurs, which is more incredible, and emphasizes more how much of a survivor they are.
    Also evidence of why there are repugs. One doesn't need a lot of intelligence to stick around, just the willingness for blood. I read this in an abstract somewhere

    Not to be "that guy" Beau, but alligators are not dinosaurs. They share one ancestor, but I believe crocodilians are still more closely related to that shared ancestor than birds (modern day dinosaur descendants). Prehistoric crocodilians were "ruling" the Earth 250 million years ago, before dinosaurs were a thing.
    Though I could easily be wrong, as I'm not an archeologist, just a guy obsessed with dinosaur books.

    The UNRWA has approx. 30,000 employees. And, it fired the persons alleged by Israel to have been part of the Oct. 7 attacks. And, Ireland and some other countries are continuing to fund UNRWA because that's practically the only source of food, clean water & medicine for the starving, sick tens of thousands of children in southern Gaza right now. The US halted its contributions! That's outrageous. Demand accountability AFTER we've saved as many civilian lives as possible!
