The fact that they released what is a downgrade to the PC version is as incomprehensible as it is inexcusable.
This would have been a lot of work but I would have loved kinda if they combined mapsC features, and elements from all classic battlefronts. Like imagine if they boring over the ground to space combat maps from elite squadron. It would have been so cool.
It seems they did just take the pc version and upscale it without any further improvements. They used a build that added the exact same controls, inability to roll or switch back in ships and all. Seems like the pc also had the bug where AI wouldn't use heroes, being addressed and fixed with mods. They literally took an updated version that was apparently rolled back from its release and ported that everywhere else.

I hope the next update fixes the servers and the control issues. I’m happy they actually went back and fixed the major issues, they even reverted the Battlefront 1 loading screen scanning noise back to the satisfying old one.
They’ve already released a 15 gb update that fixed most of the problems on pc, and is in the process of being released on consoles. So they do at least seem to be working on it.

Interestingly enough, Aspyr is also responsible for all the Jedi Knight: Outcasy and Academy ports, which do include multiplayer. The difference is the Q3’s netcode is probably the most solid and well understood netcode in the industry, and they’ve been working on that source code for 2 decades at this point. Considering that, I also wonder if the server issues were due to their experience with the dwindling player base of Jedi Academy, and not realizing the cultural differences between the two game series. Jedi Knight was mainly PC players (and an Xbox port), but Battlefront was a huge multiplatform release. Most people who played on console, also didn’t play online, as the home infrastructure just wasn’t there to support it. All it’s a disappointing situation
The original xbox version of bf2 also had AI hero's, and is also on series x/s at 4k, which makes this collection worthless on pc and xbox since you can get the original games on those platforms.
This release was the NFL equivalent to the Butt Fumble on Thanksgiving between the Patriots and the Jets, guess we'll see if ASSpyre loses it all like Mark Sanchez did that day.
Honestly, I'm just glad I can play this on my ps4 with a ps4 contoller. I got the pc version of the og on steam for like $5 on a sale and couldn't easily map the controls to a controller and wasn't about to learn keyboard and mouse controls
Yeah, the originals are better anyways and there are a ton of mods for them. On my Battlefront 2 I used the conversion mod to convert the first games map and add them to the second game which gave me like 30+ maps, then I modded in the Xbox exclusive content, then modded the enhanced graphics in, then added more heroes and villains and a good dozen other maps so I have almost 50 maps with additional modes for each. With mod's the games get massive and look better than the remasters.
All I say is I’m on my second play through of Jedi survivor, and I’m loving almost every moment of it , imagine in the 3rd game we can fly the ships , even tho I don’t mind if we don’t or do , the story is solid as hell , like it’s not a bad story at all and we get more in it with Merin , and a lil bit of “I FIND YOUR LACK OF FAITH DISTURBING”
I'd like to note that it was apparently due to legal problems that cut content restoration mod for KOTOR 2. So I don't think I would blame Aspyr for that as it seemed like something out of their control.
The first _Battlefront_ is the better game. The weapons/damage aren't as fine-tuned as the second game, but they really nailed the atmosphere of _Star_ _Wars_ . The absence of starfighters (outside of incredibly linear "space battles") really hurts the second game. Bespin Platforms is _easily_ the best map.
I'm so glad my first reaction to this collection was to consume Galactic Conquest like a fat kid at a buffet, hopefully by the time I'm bored of it the online will be more stable.
Yeah, aiming feels really bad, I play on my steam deck and I think it’s misleading that on steam it’s considered ‘steam deck verified’ when the aiming feels THAT jank. Sure you can get used to it but it’s so inferior to using the mouse on the 2005 version on Steam with no aim assist at all or the original console versions. As things are, I can’t do any precise aiming on this version, and the aiming on the Battlefront 1 port is even worse, so it forces me to neglect the scout class out of frustration. Needless to say, I only see myself playing this version of battlefront when I’m away from my PC
This what truly a master piece of a video. You really spoke the feelings a lot of us Star Wars Battlefront fans are experiencing right now. While also being very entertaining. Amazing editing too. I wish I could give you 100 likes for this video. Well done sir, looking forward to seeing more of your videos!
I first got this game on the PlayStation 2 in 2010 and for a whole week I could the see the targeting radical in my vision, kinda like when you look at the sun and then blink.
The new Battlefront games are garbage and the remasters are somehow even worse. I don't get how despite having the golden ticket (the originals) they somehow just keep getting worse despite having access to better technology. Then again the last two generations have just been remake after remake so I'm not really that surprised, it's less risky and easier to just release the same game over and over for higher prices and when every developer is doing it and there is a vast dessert of hardly any new IP's people are just going to get used to re-buying the same games over and over because they won't want their expensive new shiny consoles just being glorified paperweights. Eventually we will all grow (more like regress) to be content with inferior products because everything will be as such. Red Dead Redemption 2 was the last game that actually impressed me and that came out over 5 years ago. Within three years of the PS2 launch there were a metric fuck-ton of good games for it, within three years of the PS5 launch there is basically jack shit.
Its way better now since the first patch and in scandinavian servers it is 350 tickets by default now and there is always atleast 2-3 almost completely full servers and around 14 servers with like 1 or 2 players on each. Sometimes we have around 2 additional servers that have 20 players on them on top of the other servers already mentioned. The hit reg is only poor sometimes so it is getting better but it is still not perfect. This is all on PS5 on scandinavian servers on BF2 from BFCC.
Its funny how people created these incredible games decades ago, and modern game devs cant even move them to a new system. Let alone make something better. Hmmmm, what changed?
Keep in mind the fact that they added the DLC from thr Xbox versions of these classic games- Aaaaaand supposedly the two DLC hero characters were also used in a mod that Aspyr used without permission from the mod creator.
This game is not a remaster and never called itself a remaster, I don't know why the internet keeps saying it. The update on the 18th that corrected essentially everything wrong with the collection. I'd also give Aspyr a break, the games original netcode was garbage and even the switch to the steam servers for the original versions was plagued with hit registry problems and high ping. It doesn't excuse this collection to me but it does mean it isn't inherently there fault either when they have to fix 15 year old code.
i was honestly hoping they would port some of the best maps in BF1 into BF2, like the tatooine one with the sarlaac and have it as a hunt mode or something where you can choose the sandpeople as well.
ME TOO. Honestly I wish they just combined both battlefronts into one super battlefront. There’s so many great maps in the first game that could easily have been ported over. Also features like going prone. This would have required some real work but I also thought it would have been incredible if they brought the maps from renagade and elite squadron over too. Imagine being able to finally do ground to space combat on console. Would have been amazing to have the ultimate battlefront experience that combines the best out of all the classic games
@@MajesticLGBT Oh my gosh! I was just talking to my roomate about if this was successful how they should totally do a DLC with maps and characters based around Renegade and Elite! I feel like the loadout sytem wouldnt necassarily work, but getting the maps and such would be amazing.
they should have done (aside from a bugless game) a Battlefront Remix that fuses the 2 games. PS: People talk about Rogue Squadron trilogy, but forget Battle for Naboo :(
I only ever experienced this game via the playable demo that came with Original Trilogy DVD boxset but listening to your passionate review I felt like I was right there with you mannnn! Now if you'll excuse me I'm gonna go pull the ears off a Gundark and some other intergalactic hate crimes.
So upon using a mod for controller support on pc, it seems that the controls are based off an update version for the steam version that added controller support. This mod is based on that. This mod does not allow rolling. Has the weird input lag of the lightsaber. You can only switch positions once. And it does not have an option for droideka's rolling. With steam input I can easily fix these, but it's such a strange oversight and just goes further into showing how much of a hodgepodge of game versions this collection is. Something to keep in mind, I was able to roll in the new one before refunding it, so I have no idea why the other issues weren't addressed.
Aayla Secura had like 10 seconds of screen time in the entire prequel trilogy, but all it took was a crop top and a video game for us to remember her. I still can't remember the name of the First Order ginger guy who yelled a lot.
Really wish I had done some research on Aspyr before purchasing. This was my opportunity to experience the games online components for the first time and with my childhood friend so I kind of just jumped in thinking they couldn't get it wrong... Also interesting to hear if they respond to the reports that they've used modders content without crediting them and may have lied about it too.
6:45 BF2 does this a lot I've noticed that also. I can't even play it like that in the classic collection on Xbox One. BF1 seems less buggy in single player at least.
A good rerelease could have added stuff like online galactic conquest, first person vehicles for bf2, lying on the ground in bf2 skin changers (for phase 1 and 2 armor but also different legions), day night versions of maps, cross play, better ai for singelplayer and more on top of adding all there already was like asajj and kit...
I was like 12, my whole family (parents and 4 kids) left for a weeks vacation, I had a weeks supply of pizza and mt dew, and I played this game on our big TV till my PS2 started to roar...that was when I knew it was time to sleep and wait for tomorrow to repeat the process.
He’s regurgitating the same thing all these other “commentary” channels are . It’s rage bait , easy views , super lower effort content and he adds nothing new
It's quite literally an HD remaster in the traditional sense, whether they want to bill it as one or not. We can be pedantic about the label all we want, but whether Aspyr wants to bill it as a simple collection port doesn't change the fact that they released a very rushed product filled with glaring bugs and broken servers. Given those circumstances, I was very fair to this one all things considered.
What a shame. I don’t have any nostalgia for the games, I barely played them in their heyday. But I was looking to try again. I figured there will be a lot of new players such as myself and it’d be a nice restart for the games. It’s just too bad they released half baked. I also had no idea who Aspyr were or any idea about their track record, but I’ll definitely remember them next time they make something I’m interested in.
I'm guessing I'm about 10 years older than you but our Love of the originals seem to be on the same level. I never played online and never desired it. I just wanted the 2nd game to be harder. Closer to the first game but harder in a less frustrating way. Like the 2nd Kashyyk map in the first game. If you didn't hold one specific spot, from the start. It was nie impossible to make a comeback. When part 2 came out I was lucky enough to have a good Job and buy it on day 1!!! I remember driving straight to my best friend's house. The only Man I've ever met, that loved and knew the samebstupid trivia I did. He was also collecting the toys, back in 94!!! I had all my toys from when I was a kid in the 80's but he was adding and replacing missing parts, stickers, etc. So, A Lot of Nostalgia with SW on Ps1 and 2, Battlefront included. Galactic conquest and that just blew my mind. It was so immersive. The 501st was amazing and my only complaints with 2.... Difficulty and missing maps, (from part 1) besides that, 2nd favorite game on the console. RE 4 will always be Tops. As far as this 'remaster, if it fixed the small issues, I complained about. I would buy a PS 5 to play it but I'll wait until you give it that seal. I trust you because regardless of age, Star Wars transcends and will hopefully return to bringing people together. Instead of pushing them apart. Great review and Cheers from Montreal Quebec Canada.
Lemme just say, big up your content in general. Not super strung out, just the right length. No forced jokes but some good ones in there I enjoy. And correct clips in the right places while moving swiftly through your points. And you don’t shout like half this platform.
Bf2 is like my favorite game and to find out the collection is as buggy and messy as it is is really disappointing. I will say what's not disappointing though is a YungJunko video, great videos as always!
No worries junko I owned an xbox original and xbox live… and I had no Idea DLC was a thing… Even played 2s online… Though to be fair my obsession was with conquest. It still astounds me that galactic conquest has never returned, in these god awful battlefield reskins.
I bought it day 1 because I was so excited, and it has since become my first refund on steam. I would have given them a chance to fix it like Helldivers, but their arrogance of the number of servers and file sizes forced my hand.

In regards to aim, I found it best to turn off the sticky reticule option.
I like the reverse bullet magnetism they added. That's fun
I wish they fused all the classic battlefronts together into one ultimate battlefront game.
BF1 and 2 on og xbox worked fine out of the box. This will continue until gamers vote with their money (which will be hard with a the shills on sm).
I just want to say that you're my new TH-cam addiction! I love all your videos so far, excellent job and I wish you the best!
Aww thank you!
Aspyre has chosen to sabotage our vehicles
And our wallets
Wake up babe. New Junko just dropped.
I'd like to note that it was apparently due to legal problems that cut content restoration mod for KOTOR 2. So I don't think I would blame Aspyr for that as it seemed like something out of their control.
I'm not having a lot of these issues on Switch. Also, I bought the game to relive the single player portably and I dig it from that perspective
I bought it for switch and I've literally experienced none of the problems that people are reporting
Fantastic overview, really captured the nostalgia. Thanks for the video!
Great video, I too used to see floating blaster reticules and health bars after a long night of playing battlefront 2
Thank you for finding the words for every thought I’ve had through this entire ordeal but haven’t been able to properly vocalize.
This what truly a master piece of a video. You really spoke the feelings a lot of us Star Wars Battlefront fans are experiencing right now. While also being very entertaining. Amazing editing too. I wish I could give you 100 likes for this video. Well done sir, looking forward to seeing more of your videos!
When we needed him most... Junko returns!
I first got this game on the PlayStation 2 in 2010 and for a whole week I could the see the targeting radical in my vision, kinda like when you look at the sun and then blink.
I was so excited for this…Then the disappointment came in…
I lost my shit when I shit when Han shot the ewok and it said victory 😂😂😂😂
Battlefront seems like it can’t get a win. The launch of this shit pissed me off so much it inspired me to make a video about it.
Me and my wife been trying to conquer each others planets for a couple weeks now
At this point the fans need to forcefully take back Star Wars from Disney.
But this wasn't the fault of disney, this is an Aspyr issue
I heard they ruined the sound of the loading screen in Battlefront 1 and that hurts my soul
Yo those Scholastic book orders were the shit back in the day 👀 deadass how I got my copies of BF1 and 2
Its way better now since the first patch and in scandinavian servers it is 350 tickets by default now and there is always atleast 2-3 almost completely full servers and around 14 servers with like 1 or 2 players on each.
Hmmmm, what changed?
very original "Modern game dev bad" comment lmao. doesn't matter there were inherent issues they had to deal with, just modern game dev bad.
Keep in mind the fact that they added the DLC from thr Xbox versions of these classic games- Aaaaaand supposedly the two DLC hero characters were also used in a mod that Aspyr used without permission from the mod creator.
George Lucas selling Star Wars to Disney was the worst possible outcome for the Franchise that’s slowly dying unfortunately.
Mike Stoklasa destroyed this timeline
This game is not a remaster and never called itself a remaster, I don't know why the internet keeps saying it. The update on the 18th that corrected essentially everything wrong with the collection.
I'd also give Aspyr a break, the games original netcode was garbage and even the switch to the steam servers for the original versions was plagued with hit registry problems and high ping. It doesn't excuse this collection to me but it does mean it isn't inherently there fault either when they have to fix 15 year old code.
Yes! This game community suffered from the fast negative reactions most TH-camrs recorded. It’s become very common
Yeah I agree, we are better off with the OG PC versions, at least they didn't pull a Rockstar Games with the GTA Trilogy.
I only ever played the demo on psp but I played it so so many times that I still have so much nostalgia for it.
i was honestly hoping they would port some of the best maps in BF1 into BF2, like the tatooine one with the sarlaac and have it as a hunt mode or something where you can choose the sandpeople as well.
I bet they could make a new SW Battlefront game with couch co-op. I think they might have enough money to make that.
edit: I mean, like, a good one.
they should have done (aside from a bugless game) a Battlefront Remix that fuses the 2 games.
PS: People talk about Rogue Squadron trilogy, but forget Battle for Naboo :(
I adore Battle for Naboo! Probably the most underrated Star Wars game
EXACTLY THIS
I only ever experienced this game via the playable demo that came with Original Trilogy DVD boxset but listening to your passionate review I felt like I was right there with you mannnn!
This collection with all ITS Bugs is still better then the sequals
It really is
Aayla Secura had like 10 seconds of screen time in the entire prequel trilogy, but all it took was a crop top and a video game for us to remember her.
I still can't remember the name of the First Order ginger guy who yelled a lot.
Would you remember him if he wore a tank top?
@@clarkharrell2227 Crop top. If what's-his-name had some midriff showing, I'd probably remember his name a lot better.
@@dimlightbulb10 I think his name was Admiral Slutsley.
To be fair Aayla got better with clone wars franchise accent and all 😂
Really wish I had done some research on Aspyr before purchasing.
Played BF2 classic last night on Xbox One, had some bugs still but very playable and very fun. Did Space Battles for nearly two hours
Battlefront 1 does have hero NPCs in instant action but you have to turn them on in the settings, and there’s only four: Luke, Vader, Mace and Dooku.
I was like 12, my whole family (parents and 4 kids) left for a weeks vacation, I had a weeks supply of pizza and mt dew, and I played this game on our big TV till my PS2 started to roar...that was when I knew it was time to sleep and wait for tomorrow to repeat the process.
I may still pick up the remaster but it's good to know all this ahead of time!
That Anakin "its working" meme was perfect!
I’ll try liking and subscribing that’s a good trick
Just like the simulations
You keep calling it a Remaster... But it's not one.
@@YungJunko Like it's in the same vein as the Return to Arkham collection. They're basically remasters even if it is simply using a higher resolution.
What a shame. I don’t have any nostalgia for the games, I barely played them in their heyday. But I was looking to try again. I figured there will be a lot of new players such as myself and it’d be a nice restart for the games. It’s just too bad they released half baked.
I also had no idea who Aspyr were or any idea about their track record, but I’ll definitely remember them next time they make something I’m interested in.
never a good sign when a team sounds like allergy medication
So, A Lot of Nostalgia with SW on Ps1 and 2,
Battlefront included.
You can tell you've been watching alot of Muppets because you sound extra Kermit-y in this video 😂
Man I miss Pandemic. RIP. So many memories of being sick and playing Galactic Conquest.
Hes right, if not for this game id be nowhere near the Star Wars fan Ive been. Thanks for the best gift Grandma
Oh junko how I have waited for yoyr video for this
Very off topic, but after playing Old World Blues for New Vegas you remind me of the THINK TANK members lolz
Game is like eating a Sloppy Joe Burger.
I love it on my switch OLED
The biggest shame about all of this is that the massive player base has been reduced to almost nothing.
One server at a time on pc, maybe 2.
No worries junko I owned an xbox original and xbox live… and I had no Idea DLC was a thing…
Even played 2s online…
Though to be fair my obsession was with conquest.
A testament to how good BF2 is
I don't even like star wars
BUT I LOVE THAT GAME
Playing as Han Solo putting a detonator in the shield bunker never did that but do miss in battlefront 1 when you had to destroy it
I love your videos Junko! 🤙
Whoa - Racer catching strays!
