- I finally said goodbye to my Note 8, the OG! But before I hand it over to my cousin to enjoy, I wanted to cover its experience one last time to tell you why it is still useful in 2023!

Bought it in when i just came on the market. Used it for 3 years and then gave it to my son who started highschool and really needed a new phone. He is still using the phone and never even wanted a new one till only two weeks ago his screen started beeing unstable ( blackouts)after the maybe 20the drop on the floor. Now he got his first new phone, a Samsung s21 fe. And still uses the note 8 as backup. Our note 3 lasted from late 2013 ( me myself) till in 2020 (my son)the phone died in the dogs drinking bowl. Thats why I really like Samsung flagships. They are expensive but they are really mother to son phones, expecially with the 5 years security updates we get these days.
Yes, nowadays Samsung is the only phone maker that goes toe to toe with Apple and their overpriced crap.
Thank You for this honest, and well made video. The points that you made were spot on. You have a new subscriber!
Thanks for the sub 😊
I still have mine since 2018 as a backup or secondaty😍 i still love it
I had it since 2018 too! Such a good phone 🙂
omg you're so close to 8k subs les go
6 more to go😅
I have mi Note 8 since 1 week now, i´ts mi primari device, no complains, and i love it, greetings from Argentina, new sub here!!😁
Mi Note 8? You mean from Xiaomi? The one I used here is the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 though 😅.
@@TheHopelessGeek sorry mi english haha i mean My galaxy Note 8, so sorry 😊
Ah, I assumed so haha. No worries mate 😊
You absolutely right about 5G i own a Samsung Galaxy s22 plus and i only use 4G LTE because 5G was draining my battery faster and i live in NY and and i'm here just because i purchased this phone for my mom for not even a 100 $ i know she's gonna be happy and the price was good
That's an amazing price you got there👏🏼🙂
I think I will have my current 1+7 going on and on on.. bought it in 2020 and still going strong..
It's not too long ago. I think you'll be fine🙂👍🏼
2K display in flagship Smartphones are very rare these days. I had Honor 8 Pro back then which had 2K display even for the price of 20K.
That's amazing value, I didn't know about that. True, you get a great display with an older flagship like this one👍😎
I'm actually planning to buy one of these note 8 or s9 with broken screen for cheap (~3-4k) to use as a dex pc. I have some security cameras which can only be monitered with an android phone and I have a old monitor and dex dock. Thoughts?
Yes, these phones will work well for that with Dex.
but where are you getting these for sale in the first place?
Any refurbished or second hand sale sites, like 2Gud, or locally sourced from OLX.
@@TheHopelessGeek Hey thanks for the quick reply, Shubh Deepawali to you. :)
I actually bought the evofox last year from your recommendation and it is still holding up great functionally.
I was wondering if it would be possible to put new keycaps(if thats what they are called) on it since the paint on many of the keys has worn off by now.
Another question, I wanted to buy a new mechanical keyboard but all of them come with writeable memories and are no name Chinese brands, which can carry a malicious payload, so wont be possible to get permission to hook it up to my work laptop.
Are there any tkl(or less) mechanical keyboards that dont come with writeable memories? Or any way to take out the circuitry from the fireblade keyboard and use that to build a mechanical keyboard?
Thanks for your time.
Since the fireblade is a membrane keyboard, we may not find many replacement keycaps for it.
As for keyboards without writable memory, try this one from Ant eSports amzn.to/3gnx31N
I wanted to ask about docking stations. If you use one - Aren't you worried about overcharging the battery/shortening its life? Since it's charging constantly. Or about connecting your phone to an external monitor (on daily basis).
I found no workaround for this issue saldy and want to use an external monitor that has OLED touchscreen. Couldn't find anything that had a battery (monitors with batteries), OLED and a price that is not something bad completely.
I was thinking about Magedok 13,3 fullhd OLED touchscreen. Close enough to Asus zenscreen OLED 13,3 (can't get the later in my country for a long time from now still).
I have some questions, maybe you can help.
1. Firstly, Does plugging the power source (to the monitor) stop phone battery drainage? Does it even slow it? I watched reviews, but all they say is that plugging the monitor I can just boost the brightness. So I'm worried it would still consume my phone's battery even when I connect my monitor to energy source (using it's charger).
2. Secondly, if instead the phone is ALSO CHARGED when monitor uses its own charger - Is there any way for me to stop charging my phone when it's not needed? Having the phone charging constantly is very destructive for the battery in smartphones (I had one exploding in the past from being charged too often).
3. If it's not possible to stop charging the phone (when monitor is charging with its own charger) - Can I disconnect the charger from monitor and run the monitor using my phone only (with my phone's battery as the only energy source)? Then I could simply drain the battery to the moment where charging is okay once more (and connect monitor to its charger again).
4. Here I'm worried that 4k OLED could have a bigger energy consumption and won't run with my phone without plugging the monitor into its charger, as I'm interested in either their fullhd or 4k option (I use it pretty close to my face and do very detilaed work so even with small screen it still matters to me).
To make your task easier - My phone is Samsung Galaxy S20 FE. It has battery 4500 mAh (if this info helps you with anything).
Dex worked great with my regular wall-powered monitor via a single USB-C cable. A USB Dock would certainly be beneficial.
@@TheHopelessGeek
Well, maybe I'm too careful then.
For how long are you using this setup? I can imagine that your phone is charging most of the time while connected to it (and that the monitor itself is connected to power via USB). If this setup lasts and you really don't see issues with overheating or batteries exploding I can do it as well. 🤭
In your opinion. Is Samsung S20 FE enough to run 4K and do basic things (or perhaps play some games)? I gave 2k on it, so I'm wondering about 4k vs fullHD (can't fins 2k OLED sadly).
* also additionally - what about Dex and higher resolutions? Can you even project them or are you limited to fullhd by Dex itself like many others?
You might need a cooling fan for the phone as it tends to get quite warm after 20 minutes. I haven't used it for more than a few weeks, around an hour each time before unplugging the phone.
@MY PONY TAILS
Actually I'm disabled and writing is kind of a challenge. Takes more effort than in your case I'm sure.
@MY SOUND TAILS
You didn't. You too have a good day/night. 😉
This is my primary phone, commenting from note 8 great phone. Solid performer.
I used it for a long time too! Loved it 😊
可以送给我嘛?我也喜欢三星
我已经把它送给了我的表弟。😅
I got it few days back from elder brother, and using as my 2/3 option set, still great camera, great display , quite premium so why not ....
Yes, it's still a great option for a light user in 2023 🙂
@@TheHopelessGeek as well as for a heavy user
😮
I bought it 1 month ago and tbh this thing is a monster even still to this day
It's definitely better than other mid range or budget devices at this reduced price 🙂
Bro really miss your filmmaking tutorials.
Would like to see you do film making tutorials with the phones you review. That way we could see the camera comparison
You're right, I haven't made one in a long time🙂. Anything particular you'd like to see?
@@TheHopelessGeek either a cinematic vlog with your filmmaking tutorials or you create one of your normal videos like a phone review but with a cinematic filmmaking touch.
You could show the one kond of like how they do in ads before you review it.
Primarily a cinematic vlog would be good, a simply story with film making tips
Okay, I'll put something together 🙂
Do you have any recommendation regarding the websites from where I can buy it?
You could source it from second use stores like 2Gud or others. I don't have much experience with buying good refurbished items.
Olx but beware of scammers
Can I ask does Galaxy Note 8 Ok to purchase in this year. Even though it has outdated Software android 9 pie.. because I so bothered when I purchase a phone and the software is Out to date.?? Hope it answers my question.
If you consider the hardware quality you get for the price, it's really a great value. But yes, the stock software is stuck on Android 9. You'll have to experiment and use custom ROMs on it to get the most use out of its high quality hardware in 2023.
I bought it in JAN 2018 and still i m using it ... the built quality is above the expectations for sure... i dropped the phone from moving bus and the cover given in the box was completely destroyed and my back panel had little 0.5 cm cracked glass , metal cornered dent and nothing else ... i thought it will not survive that massive impact ...
You're lucky. I managed to completely smash the screen when I accidentally dropped it on the road during a phone call.😮💨 Cost me 16,700 Rs to fix.
I also dropped it moving motorcycle .I think display broken but nothing.
Drop matters according to the impact side.
I also brought it in 2018 and it still works properly... but there is some screen discoloration but not a big issue
Still using it and the amount of use that comes out of this phone is insane
This phone's form factor was my favourite compared to Note 9. I loved how slim this was. 😻👌🏼
@@TheHopelessGeek yes but the few downsides of this phone is that it is oem locked so Customizability with custom ROMs is non existent but it is a very solid flagship phone nonetheless.Only worry is that Android 9 is nearing its EOS years but if it's still in good condition it has a few good years left in it
Yes, true. The lack of official updates will be the deal breaker for most people
@@TheHopelessGeek Wow!you really put a lot of effort into your fanbase.Keep up the good work brother
I try to respond to everyone, because I wish the people I watch would respond to me the same way.😅👍🏼
Hey i know that it is an irrelevant comment but i am thinking to lube my otemu blue switches but after doing some youtube searches i found that vaseline ate some people’s switches i am just curious if it ate your switches?
I only used Vaseline for about 2 weeks before I wiped it off and used silicone lube. So, my switches weren't affected. I recommend you use something like this instead of petroleum jelly - amzn.to/3e2fwM1
@@TheHopelessGeek Thanks!
🙂👍🏼let me know how it works out
@@TheHopelessGeek Sure thing🤝
@@TheHopelessGeek btw i am having second thoughts for tetra clean silicone grease too which one should i buy?
Sounds pretty good
It still works pretty well! Great choice for a casual, secondary phone🙂
I have been using it for 6 years now. Still a great phone. It's just that battery life kinda bad now, other than that no issues. Thinking to get s23 ultra or wait for s24 ultra. Thoughts? What do u think about switching to iphone as well?
Might as well wait for the newest S24 Ultra now. Wouldn't recommend an iPhone from a Note device. 😅
@@TheHopelessGeek appreciate the reply mate! I love the fact that u respond to each and every comment. You just earned a sub!
I try!😊thanks for the sub 👍🏼
am using Note 8 and using it on medium power mode and get full day of battery and decent performance
Yes, it's still a solid device ✌🏼
I had that device back then
What did you think of it?🙂

Mans rick rolling us mid video KEKW
Lol, it was a rickroll from another video reused here 😂
Awesome phone📱
It truly was. I hope it serves my cousin as well as it did me😀👍🏻
You want to put in TWRP recovery mode and HADES ROM 3.0
I should've tried it when I still had it 😅🙏🏼 but thanks for suggesting
Igo and always go buying ²yr older flagship note 8 is my current Samsung phone.there is something I am using 5th Samsung device out of 7 androids
🙂👍🏼
Yehh bro I am using sony xperia xz1 compact as my primary phone... It's just great
wow, I should try to get an old school Xperia and try it in 2023 🤩
The black crush irritates me so much
Except that it's a gem
True, I couldn't unsee it either because I have a few other equivalent AMOLEDs to compare every day😅
Note 8 is 28000 shall I buy at December end it's available in Amazon?
Try the Note 9 if available around the same price.🙂
I have seen note 10 lite in Amazon its 38000 shall I go for it? And thanks for reply
Note 10 lite isn't a very good phone 😅. The Note 9 is a better option at possibly a lower price
I mean MY note 8 hasnt had an update since 2019 and I'm not sure why I haven't gotten one since
I think that was about time for the last major update to reach the device. It was launched in 2017 after all.
on amazon its for 31k , does it justify this price or note 9 is better?
I think the note 9 is better at that price
yep go for the note 9. You will have bigger battery. You can compare the battery size
31k for a note 8?
I got my note 10+ 5g for 29k back in 2021
Yeah, the Note 8 is a bit too old for that price now. Can say the same for the Note 9 if it wasn't such a favourite of mine 😅
I was debating if I should get a new phone or not. Had this phone forever but na, I'm good :)
It's still functional for pretty much all basics in 2023🙂
@@TheHopelessGeek Exactly. I was thinking about purchasing the pixel but I couldn't really justify the purchase besides using the excuse that we don't get security patches anymore but I've started using express VPN anyway.
Right. I think you can use it for a while longer
@@Tanju_Ahmed lol I have note 8 and using express vpn too hahaha
Are you selling this note 8 im from mumbai im interested please reply if possible sir
Oh, I just gave it away to a family member 😅. I have a good condition 128GB Note 9 if you're interested 🙂
@@TheHopelessGeek price ??
I'm not sure, but you can great deals on some refurbished or pre-owned Note 9 from resellers.
@@TheHopelessGeek I'm getting an Samsung note 8 for 11k should I go for it ?
That seems like a good price 🙂
Am watching this on my note 8
I used it since it originally came out as a new device. Amazing phone😎
What is its cost now
It would be very low for a used unit. You might find it for around $120.
the video performance of the honor seems poor
Perhaps it's the TH-cam compression that reduces it quite a bit. It looks quite good in real life.🙂
Newer phones feel cheap..Even Samsumg S22 Ultra...I returned it felt cheap and plasticky...I still have my Note 8 since 2017 battery life and display still work as new.. Companies have gotten greedy using cheap materials on flag phones with gimmick software with huge price tags...not worth it...
People need to start to demand software and hardware for the pricetag not just buy it bcuz its labeled as "New" ...bcuz these companies are literally using inferior materials...and charging large pricetag...
Samsung use to feel like premium now it feels plasticky...with giant camera lenses on back to justify price...ridiculous
I see. Do you think it's the glass finish that makes it feel cheap?
Get the note 9
I have the Note 9 already 🙂
great deal if you get it under 15k
True, it is!
3:54 is not true, Iphone screens are made by Samsung, they knew how to do it.
Why haven't they done it before Apple, on their own flagships? Just because they made it for Apple doesn't mean they knew exactly how they plan to implement it on their iPhones.
yes i have present good smartphone
🙂it still works surprisingly well after all these years.
@@TheHopelessGeek Portugal center sell 700€ day
Is that a good deal?
June 29 2023 i buy Samsung note 8
Great! I hope you got a good deal on it 😄
3:59 apple didn't, it was samsungs display
Yes, Samsung manufactured it, but it was used with Apple's design.
@@TheHopelessGeek yeah so we can still say samsung made it possible apple can't do anything on it's own bro
True, Apple doesn't have their own manufacturing facilities. But all their designs are truly theirs. Samsung had those AMOLED panels for years but never attempted such a design on their own phones. They pioneered other things, like the dual curved edge displays.
Yo bro you got a bomb in your hand😳
😅 do old phones just explode in people's hands? They're generally safer than that.
@@TheHopelessGeek Just saying after watching the recent MrWhosetheboss video. Old Samsung phones exploding 💨
Yes, you're right. Hopefully they slowly expanded over a few minutes instead of bursting into flames 😂
I installed android 13 on mine one
