    Sir, many thanks for posting this lesson. My teacher has just started me on this etude and it was feeling like an random assemblage of bow strokes. You have really brought this to life; I can now see it as a real piece of music. Once I get the notes under my fingers, I'll try some of your suggestions for dynamics.
    Thanks again.
    Ed (adult beginner of 4.5 years).

    Wonderful teaching points--thank you for sharing! It's amazing how much one can get out of (by putting into) a single etude.

    Hey Roy, it is wonderful to see light in your clear explanation, I would love to have more information about your self and the tutorials. I was accepted to be taught by a master and he does not have much time to teach in regular basis. So with your help Im sure some hours of practice can achieve your instruction.

    I enjoy your master classes and get a lot out of them. I am an adult violin student and your public teaching is helping refine my playing. Can you please at some point publish a master class on Bach Double Concerto, Second movement? Gracias! Alfredo Castillo - San Antonio - Texas

      Good evening Profesor Sonne. I am studying Masas study #2 (Sweeping stroke) following your suggestions in your master class video. What would be a good metronome setting for this etude? Thanks for your consideration of my request. Alfredo

    • @roysonne
      @roysonne  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      92 to the quarter note would be a good tempo.

    Do you have video on the etude 14 & 15? Your video enriched my understanding of the Mazas. Initially I found the medodies were not very easy to remember. You did a great job showing us.

      Hi James. Thanks for your appreciative comment. So far I don't have videos on 14 or 15. Meanwhile you might find others that you like on my website.

    Perhaps you could play the whole thing through in your videos, maybe at the end or something? The video was extremely helpful, but I'm also looking for a good play-through that I can see so I can, i dunno- you get the idea.
    Thanks so much, reply soon.
    Once again, wonderful video.

    Hello Professor, I am studying your Mazas 2 classes,
    it is easy to learn and in a simple rhythm, I would like to
    better understand some questions about 2nd and 4th position,
    with my former Professor I only studied 1st, 3rd and 5th,
    besides helping in Speed, what gives me advantages in the
    2nd and 4th position? I still do not understand a better
    relationship about it.
    I look forward to your response and thank you very much for
    this opportunity that the Lord offers us in these rich classes.
    Here in Brazil, we have little incentive to study the instruments
    of this family, we have to work hard and there are very few teachers.
    May God bless your life for this beautiful work. thank you so much!!!

      Hi Francisco. Thats a very good question and an important one. First of alll, there a re passages that lie very well in second and fourth positions, that are comfortable for the hand and don't have clumsy string changes. Second of all, you have the option of making simple shifts between first and second, or third and fourth. The shift of one position is the easiest shift you can make. Third of all you learn to think intervalically, in terms of the distance from one note to the next which is the way all advanced players think.

    Mr. Sonne are you slurring the eigth note passage at 17 with two note couplets?

    • @roysonne
      @roysonne  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Raymond Monath Hi Raymond. The first two notes in m17 are slurred. The rest are separate. Then in m 18 the 5th and 6th notes are slurred. That's a very musical way of bowing it. It helps to shape the phrase.

    • @raymonath
      @raymonath 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Roy Sonne so again in 20 first two notes slurred so as to create downbow in 19 and 22? (My Schirmer edition is not marked that way.)

    • @roysonne
      @roysonne  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Raymond Monath Yes! Exactly!

      +Roy Sonne Hi Mr. Sonne Can you suggest a way for me to bring out the martele' stroke on the eighth note instead of falling back into the first note with the accent?Thanks Ray

      +Raymond Monath Which specific measures and/or notes are you talking about?

    • @roysonne

      +Raymond Monath My preference would be m 18 all in first position. m 19 third pos
