Sometimes when you're working, everything gets mixed up and you come here and get enlightened. Thank you for your instructive and explanatory explanation.
Thank you in turn, Sude Kirci. Glad to know that my video has been helpful for you.
Dear Roy
You remind me of my teacher when i was younger...he taught me etudes the same way..
Thank you for these videos very very informative....I teach now and am very happy to be reminded of my teacher's old PROPER technique of playing..so i can show my students as well
Thank you once more
Thank you. I really enjoy your playing.
Hello Soh rab. Thanks for your message. I'm delighted to know that my video was helpful to you. I'll keep you posted about new ones.
I remember you teaching me the Collé like this :) I love this video and it's so informative, like a virtual lesson!!
You inspire me to practice!
Thank you for your good teaching..🙌
Hello Manuel. that would certainly be a valid approach. Personally I feel that this etude really lends itself to the colle stroke at the frog. Perhaps you could try it both ways.
Thanks Stvgrmn. And congratulations on the accomplishments of your daughters.
thank you for your amazing masterclass
I love it!! It was very useul for my lessons.
Greetings from Mexico
I love you! You are in my Best of The Best category.
great job maestro
thank you Roy, your video is very helpful!:)
ESTA MUY INTERESANTE Y DIDÁCTICO, POR FAVOR SUBTITULELO EN ESPAÑOL
I am curious why you prefer not to use the bowing instructions given in the etudes. Do you feel they are outdated? Or were those instructions possibly added in later editions? The original bowings are more difficult to execute with a clean sound and good phrasing, but isn't that idea? While it does seem easier to play the etudes nicely with your bowings, it seems that mastering the original bowings improves one's control of the bow.
Hi Sean, Very good question. Mostly I try to follow the bowings for exactly the reason that you are giving. It's just in measure 21 that I feel the original bowing is so unnatural and unmusical that I take the liberty of changing it exactly as I would do in a repertoire piece. It's always a choice that demands some thought. But I try to put artistic considerations first in etudes as well as in repertoire. If you're referring to someplace other than measure 21, could you please let me know which measures you're referring to. Thanks for this stimulating question.
Roy Sonne It isn't so much the changing bowing patterns in any particular measure, but the bow stroke used throughout. In the heading of etude #3, it says to use a vigorous stroke from the middle to the point, the bow not quitting the string. In etude #2, it says whole bow.
Sean Laibinis Those would be the editor's instructions. Not from Mr. Mazas.
+Roy Sonne thanks so much. very instructive discussion
Sean Laibinis so far my teacher told me use martellé stroke to develop that stroke. From middle to point. But well any other aproach is good cus u may build different ways to play the same thing no(?)
🙏🙏🙏
Thank you so much!!!
The collé that I’ve learned doesn’t make any use of the arm but entire relies on finger motion, which makes it substantially more difficult.
I prefer to have both available to me and to use them in an combination depending on the circumstances of the moment.
Roy, thank you for sending me the exercise; Roy I empathize greatly with you and think you're a nice guy, I'm in Brazil and in my town does not have a violin teacher with his technique; would be no possibility of its being translated videos for Portuguese or Spanish; unintentionally you could send me explore fly exercises with all the techniques of violin bow; please masterclass of meditation from thais by Jules Massenet.
really helpful....
ammmm I'm studyibg this one but it says that you should practice it from the middle to the ponit
What a wonderful idea to play the begining at the frog! Thank you so very much for sharing this precious lesson!☀️🌻
Edit: Dear master, when you stare at the camera I feel like I need to practice more so as to do not dissapoint you, even though we've never met! lol 😊🌹
Many thanks, Diana. Very best wishes for violinistic fulfillment.
It’s good but it’s not grand marlelé
That's true. Maybe later. Meanwhile, thanks for your interest.
