Oh wow. Didn't expect the boom pole option! This looks like a really great addition to a sound guys kit and VERY affordable! Thanks for the video!
Very cool! I have the Ulanzi zero Y tripod and I'm super happy with it!
Thanks for making this video. I am trying to decide between the Ulanzi and Manfrotto so this video is very helpful for me.
Thank you for watching!
Thanks for this video, I'm convinced!
Great stand, for microphones, Audio recorders and Camera as well. looks strong and flexible.
Great video as always :)
Cool! Thank you very much for the review! I recently bought myself 2 such racks for $ 50. I chose between Manfrotto b100 and ulanzi mt49. As a result, I decided to take a new carbon rack and it seems to me that I did not lose) I record concerts and these 2 racks look very good in the frame.
Hallo, vielen Dank für den Tipp. Ich habe mir diesen Ständer daraufhin bestellt und bin schon sehr gespannt auf „Klangjagd“ zu gehen damit. Sehr gute Arbeit die Ihr das macht. Vielen Dank!!
Thank you so much Kai!!
Smooth action and easy height adjustments. Definitely agree that it would have been nicer to have a larger (3/8 or 5/8) thread at the top, but that's ok.
Marcel, first of all really thanks for your videos. As a rookie who just wants to capture sounds for his music I found your videos very helpful in getting a proper setup. However, because I don't like to lug around big poles/tripods I came up with a very compact and light (depending on the tripod used) setup. I use the (Andycine) VT-03 Vlogger aluminium tripod (€12) together with an Innorel ER222C carbon fiber extension pole with 10kg weight capacity (€15) and Andoer 2-in-1 mini ballhead with cold shoe mount (€13). Both the extension pole and the ballhead have rubber gaskets which do an amazing job of reducing microphonics and the relatively heavy tripod allows me to extend the pole without worrying about my Tascam X8 falling over. As you know, the Tascam is a heavy boy. It all packs up super small. Anyway, hope it brings you onto some ideas for your own setup just like you did with me. All the best.
Yep, I have 4 of these for audio and lights! But then I got 2 of each Sirui DK18/28 for heavier stuff.
Nice stand. Also, love your DPA surround mic. I hope you'll post some record reviews of that soon too?
We would have already but channel six on the Zoom F6 started to fail. Instead, we bought the SD Mix Pre 10ii. We will pick up the recorder when we're in Melbourne and make the first video about it right away.
@@FreeToUseSounds We would have already but channel six on the Zoom F6 started to fail !!!! It's not very old. I'm surprise. SD's are said to be repairable and zoom's disposable. Have you this experience ?
@@FreeToUseSounds I look forward to that. I think they used to have trams in Melbourne.
Thanks for this review. Could you share the diameter/circumference of the folded tripod?
Ahhh you're in NZ ATM, very nice...
The background music lovely 👍
Thanks! It's called Chillpill by Guustavv which is from Epidemic Sound :)
I use the Ulanzi Claw quick release system. It works on this monopole or anything with 1/4-20 threads.
Yes, it is a great alternative with almost the same performance. I use Manfrotto more often on uneven surfaces with lighting devices, and Ulanzi in this case for working with microphones. Moreover, I was the first to buy Ulanzi and only then found out about Manfrotto Nanopole))
This is perfect for me right now, ive been looking for a field recording stand. I just got the Rode Soundfield-how do you carry yours around? Have you found a backpack or case built specifically for it? Thanks for all of the great content.
Hi Derek. I don’t carry the VR with me anymore. Thats in storage but I never had a specific box for it.
Was looking at those in a camera shop across the street from where I live, they look pretty good for the price 🖖
i see this like camera monopod alternative? with video head attached.. would it hold camera 3kg?
I purchased this same stand in December of 2022. On my first field recording trip to a local park, the stand tipped over and one of the carbon fiber legs broke. When the carbon fiber leg was broken, I could see why it broke so easily. The manufacturer has a small metal rod going through a plastic ring on the leg. I pointed out this issue to the manufacturer, but I still have not received a replacement. I have switched to another model and I am much happier.
Hello Jeff! Ah that's something that shouldn't happen and we're sorry to hear that. :(
Cool. I like the way it turns into a boom pole quickly. I'd definitely consider one when I need it because it's a great price too. Anyway, hope you and Libby are well and enjoying NZ.
Thank you Simon. Yes, we're doing great and heading to AU next week.
@@FreeToUseSounds Great. I look forward to a few videos soon hopefully. Take care.
@@cryptotrader2779 No videos from NZ but maybe Australia with the DPA 5100 and Sound Devices MixPre10ii
I like the functionality and design. The price is also affordable.
Have loved my carbon nano poles, but this looks fantastic, especially for the price. I also like t he carbon legs :D Also, according to the spec sheets for both, the Ulanzi has a decently higher weight capacity (1.5kg for the Manfrotto vs 2-5kg for the Ulanzi).
If you are looking for a cheaper Quick connect have a look at the Gravity MSQC1 B. Gravity also make other items you find useful
Thanks! As a side note K&F Concept 74 is the most versatile tripod as to me, great quality and very affordable as well.
But over 2kg is to heavy for me. It still seems like a great solution for A-B setup recordings.
Hey Marcel, just wanted to let you know Rycote makes a 50 dollar quick connector now "PCS-Lite". Works the same way but the top is rubber.
Ohh! Thats good to know. Thank you so much for letting us know. Looks like I am not up on the trends :)
Have you tried on Zoom h1n? Does it pick up the sound when you touch the pole?
Awesome Video, thanks!!! I cannot hear clearly the name of the backpack that you demonstrate in this video. Also cannot find the link in the bio. Can you help?
Hi Matthew! That's the Minaal bag. They're a really cool company and we bought the Carry On 3.0.
wow, I didn't know they had this out! --- I got one of their travel tripods and it's amazing, this looks fantastic, I have the Manfrotto (same you have :) ) but this is a great alternative!!!
It's definitely a more affordable alternative, but you need to be cautious with the legs. You see the part where the screw goes through? That's a weak point where it could easily break. I received an email from someone who experienced this issue.
@@FreeToUseSounds I agree about the legs I've had mine for sometime, I love and hate it at the same time. I find I have to keep a close eye on the legs as they tend to collapse and I'm forever loosening, putting back in position and tightening again. It's a pity, as aside from this issue it would have been perfect for my needs
I'm so tempted to get one of these for hiking, but for my camera.. just wondering how stable this would be with a 500-700g camera mounted to it..
Personally, I wouldn't mount a camera on it. Maybe a GoPro or an Insta360, but that's where it ends.
I am using one with Aputure cob 60D + 135W V Mount Battery + Godox 65 lantern for almost one year... still work great
That’s great to hear. I saw it can carry 6kg but wonder if that’s actually feasible.
@@FreeToUseSounds I doubt that 😆 still, giving the price I can buy 2-3 MT49 with 1 manfrotto nanopole budget, I think worth it
U got the dpa 5 1 kit woo can't wait to see the indepth review on it or has it been out already n I missed it ??!!
Not yet Rahool. We pick up the MixPre 10ii first :)
@@FreeToUseSounds ohhh😏 Am guessing there will be more ahead, anyway can't wait to see it I've been planning to get dpa 5.1 or holophone one day
Impressive... On the Ulanzi website it says it can support up to 3kg. Would you say that's true?
Hi! We personally wouldn't put anything that is 3 kg on the top of this pole.
Can you advice if there is a 1/4 screw thread ( female ) at the bottom of the pole when you remove it ?
Hi Nil, just checked and yes there is! So you a screw the pole on another adapter. Hope that helps :)
@@FreeToUseSounds thank you very much for replying !!
Do you know if it is 1/4 or 3/8 screw hole ?
Do you think this is good for selfie stick ? For insta360, pocket 3 etc ?
@@nilnil8072 Oh I am sorry. The top is a 1/4 male but the bottom is 3/8 female. So the larger one.
@@nilnil8072Yes for the pocket 3 you can screw the camera direct on the top without the need for an adapter. We tried it the other day. Its also part of a video we did. No more drone :)
Ah but now I just checked the website and it says 5/8" Stud which could be the one at the bottom. I'm looking right now if I have an adapter. One second :)
still happy with it a year later? would be great to have your input now :) Thank you!
Absolutely! Still using it as you may have seen in our latest video.
There’s a similar new light stand by Sirui. I bought the bigger version, it seems very solid.
I will check it out.
@@FreeToUseSounds I don't think you can disconnect the center column though.
I will order the Ulanzi now and have a look at that, thanks for the tip.
@@mjscpr Ah yes in order to make it a boom pole correct? It looks solid but you're right. I think you can't take it out with the Sirui.
The 80s smooth porn jazz has me cracking up. I can almost see the lit candles and silk sheets! Lol
Nice little stand. I would imagine the legs are the only weak point if you accidentally step on them. I love how you walk off screen at 3:28 to pay the star the proper respect 😂 BTW: Do you think that in the future sound designers will only accept surround recordings when it comes to ambience?
Have a great time in NZ. Viele Grüße - Til.
Ta Taaa! :)
To answer your question: Surround recordings may become increasingly popular for ambience and other aspects of sound design but it is unlikely that they will become the only accepted format in the future. Sound design is an art and sound designers will likely continue to use a diverse range of recording techniques to create amazing audio experiences. Mono or stereo is just as important. :)
@@FreeToUseSounds Thanks for sharing your opinion on this topic. Maybe in a few months I will invest in a Rode NT-SF1 (the affordable solution 😀). But I'm looking forward to your first recording with the DPA. 👍
So you can't adjust one leg independently for uneven terrain? 😢 Apart from that looks great.
Correct. It's not like a classic tripod.
Can it hold a 600D? 😅
Based on the specifications, the Ulanzi tripod should be able to support the weight of a Canon 600D. However, considering our channel is focused on audio recording and microphones rather than camera gear, I would not use a camera in combination with a light stand.
hahah i was gonna get the same one but I ended up getting the Vanguard instead
Marcel: I am confused. You don’t use this light stand for purpose of light stand? Instead, there is strange microphone on it. I don’t understand the stand! 💛😊
oops, looks so much like the Masarce MF01 which I own two of them..
Oh yes they look very much the same.
Too bad they didn’t think to make one or more of the legs to be adjustable length. There doesn’t appear to be any way to adjust for any surfaces that aren’t level.
Yes, that's absolutely correct. In this case I would use a tripod like we did in of our latest videos.
1.5kg for the Manfrotto is a joke no ? 😅😅. Can’t put a little pannel light on it
120 buck for that little thing is crazy...
Gravity stands make cheaper adapters than rycote... 10$
