    I came across this guy on accident one day and he's the only person I've watched that has actually helped my swing. Would love to do a private lesson with him.

      Glad you found me. I make it simple so people understand it and actually get it. I will be teaching until June 2025. Then our course will close so not sure what I will be doing after that. I may be just doing content. We'll see.

    I wish I had seen your videos and known about what you teach when I started learning to play golf, 30+ years ago!! Your approach is so easy and logical. I started to practice both the hinging and the firing with the legs and it's so easy!!!!!! I really thank you for your videos, they are priceless!!!!

    Since loose wrist for the past 5 months I drop down 6 handicap... I'm turning 50 and still drive further than most youngster out there. They keep asking me how do hit the ball so far and consistent with all my clubs without even swing harder. They say I hardly swing 😂..... Told them go watch Paul Wilson Golf 😂

The amount of effort they put in is painful. After my lesson I hit a few drives. I was right there will them with half the effort. Crazy how few are even learning this stuff. Thanks for the promo.     Holy cow! I watched this vid last night and went to the range today to hit a bucket trying to incorporate the loose wrists. By my 5th or 6th swing, I was already hitting the ball so much better. 7i, 3h, 3w, and even driver...had my best range session in a month. Paul, you are the best!

    Thanks for you loose wrists lessons. I'm 78 and have been hitting and helping for a long time. My best drives are usually about 230 total with quite a bit of effort. I've tried loose wrists at the range the past two days and it took a couple of buckets but I noticed that a 3/4 swing with driver using loose wrists got the 230 with a lot less effort. I have work to do to get the full swing in sync with loose wrists but I can see that this works. Thanks again.

      Good stuff! Looser swings faster. You are starting to see it. For more power in the future you drive your legs and hips harder never hitting harder with arms.

      @@paulwilsongolf Ok, a few more buckets under my belt and things are improving. Not perfect but improving. Working on full swing, soft arms, loose wrists, driving legs. Drives are up to 250 yds now. Haven't done that since I was a young squirt of 50! Thanks to your loose wrists training and tempo training. You're the best!

    Tried it finally yesterday, for the very first time with loose wrists & firing a bit my hips & legs & my driver maxed 275yards with roll & carried at least 200 yards minimum for the very first time in my round of golf... used to carry 170-180 yards only.     I have had issues for 2 years now... everything you just said about feeling out of control and getting used to that is so valid. I'm puring it with loose wrists and more consistent than I have been in longer than I am ok with...can't wait to get this move on the course and see what we can do.

      Glad you are doing well. Taking it from the range to the course: you need to go out by yourself with 3 extra golf balls in your pocket. Don't keep score. Swing no more than 50%. Drop balls and hit extra shots. It is about actually trying something new when you play. If you keep doing your old swing when do you ever change. With driver you pick a close target a few yards away or way way way in the distance that you cannot possibly reach. You cannot pick a fairway bunker at 250. This is a distance thought. So with new targets your thought is to hit the fairway not hit it 250 down the fairway. Irons I would be taking one more club and trying to hit the center of the green not the pin. Swing smoothly. Throughout the round you could be doing practice swings holding the club in the air hinging and rehinging to keep the wrists loose and other times you can be holding it in the air firing your legs and hips so you get used to the feeling of using them as the power source not the arms. Do this for a few rounds by yourself until you get used to a new way of swinging. Right now if you play with others you will think distance and you will revert back to your old swing. It is all about doing something new. It takes a little time to get used to it. Also, don't forget to do daily practice swings at home.

    Thanks so much Paul for the great advice!. I was at the range and decided to hit the very first ball with loose wrists as you recommend. I always start my range sessions with short irons and mid speed swings to avoid hurting my back. Got my PW and hit the first ball with super loose wrists.. and to my surprise the ball landed where I land my 8 iron. This is unbelievable!. Gotta admit that it took me a while to learn to hit this way and is kind of a mental battle at the course. But I can surely guarantee that this tip of yours really works and has helped me tremendously! 54 year old mid handicapper here playing a LOT better thanks to you!. Big thanks.     Dear Paul. I played my first round of golf only this past weekend. I bought a large bucket of balls at the driving range. Then proceeded with my last years process. But after a half bucket I started to get frustrated as nothing was going well.
    Then I remembered watching a few of your videos over the winter.
    The first thing I did was to take my driver and aim for the 100 yard marker. Hardly swinging at all. My ball went 150 yards.
    After a few more, I aimed for the 150 yds. My ball went 200 yrs and I still was not swinging hard.
    The next day, my 1st round of the year, I fixed a target only about 100 yards in front and whether I had a driver or fairway wood or 5 iron I swung only for the 100 yard target. Well I shot 39. And I am 66 years old.
    So my friend I say leave all the long drive, hard hitting propaganda to the young guys. I’m swing for the 100 yards from now one.

      Glad you're getting into it. I make it super simple. You are hinging and rehinging your wrists. You are coiling and uncoiling your body. I want you hitting it with your body not your arms. If you can just do these things to start or see it this way you are ahead of the game. Adults will try to hit solely with the arms. Kids do not. They have minimal arms strength so in no time a kid gets it while the adult is still hitting it nowhere and shooting a million. So you need to do what kids do if you want to get it fast.

    Paul, about a month back I was playing a 9 hole course and I was slicing my drives like crazy. I literally sat there in frustration and finally thought of your lessons. I said, let me swing looser and stop trying to kill this thing with my arms and tight wrists. I swung with not even half of my energy and the ball went way further and straighter than I've ever hit it on that hole. I didn't even have to think of "swinging from the inside" or any jazz like that. Granted, you want to swing from inside out and have all the other pieces to the puzzle in place. I am truly grateful for these tips. I need to confide in this 100% moving forward because, admittedly, I fall back into that hitting habit at times.

    If you can do this, it works. The muscles that control the wrist are in the forearm. If you loosen grip, wrist muscles in same cluster in forearm must be used that also loosen grip. It takes practice to keep loose, but power comes in a hurry.

      Loose is the way. Too many people just whacking away at it. Need to try something different. Once you get loose you get it. Then you have it for life.

    This was me in a nut shell, and I’ve been guilty of wanting results in 2 or 3 swings, but working on your teaching and understanding it, I’m now hitting it farther and straighter than I ever have, I’m 55 and out driving 20-30 years olds I play with, and it’s funny cause they do just what he said, you can see them tense up and swing so hard with upper body trying to hit it past me, and the next result is usually “FORE”!! Loose wrists have helped my swing stay loose and the power and accuracy is all coming from my body! Before This swing was average 82 to 83, after working on swing for three weeks and no playing, I’ve went 72, 73 and 70! Thank you again!!!

      @@paulwilsongolf was pushing driver today, seemed like every hole, was still in fairway but couldn’t get it to turn over wasn’t really over swinging felt like lower body may have been slow grip, stance, ball position were good, so lower body or over swinging lol!

    My game was going South quick. Hitting a little fade that soon became a big fade. Everything was left to right. And getting weaker. Loosened up my wrist and rotated my upper body closed on address and it was like magic. Better distance and straight or slight draw. Last three rounds 78-80-78.And I'm almost 69. Thanks

    This guy is the man. Just be lose. It helps so much. If your tight so much things go wrong. Fall back not rotate no wait forward hips shoulders etc. stay lose

    I just started using this concept, Paul. I'm relatively long off the tee as it is but my ball is often wild. Your video here helped me to see why. I was always tensed up and swinging with tight, flexed wrists, hands and arms. I've gone to the range and I'm currently getting used to feeling relaxed and feeling the hinge just let go and I'm absolutely loving the results. I'm as long or longer and they are coming off effortlessly. Thank you for what you do and keep on doing it!

      That's great that you are trying it and seeing the results. I too was doing what you did. In 1999, I turned the arms off completely after seeing the Iron Byron hit a ball. th-cam.com/video/-1Gr-vOA4sI/w-d-xo.html The machine allowed me to understand "why" turning the arms off was going to work ... and it did. From that point on I never tried to hit or help the shot in any way with my arms. I would also suggest you having somewhat of a neutral grip. This allows you to hit and rehinge with loose wrists. If your grip is strong and you have loose wrists you will hook it.

      Keep at it. Really tell yourself that you are not going to hit or help the shot in any way. Once you get good at it it's amazing how long and straight you will be.

    I benefited from your instruction on the best grip technique to achieve loose wrists. Used to equate loose wrists with a loose grip. Learned you can maintain a firm grip with loose wrists to do a body swing using natural momentum. took practice but feel more confident swinging a golf club today.

      Yeah, if I say to roll it then roll it. This is the the arm unit. You get that working first. Then you straighten it out with body. So for those saying too watch out for flipping etc. they are trying to get you to hit perfect shots in 1 step which will never work. Get the first step. Then add step 2. If you do, you will get it in minutes as I showed you in that video I sent. Think outside the box.

    I just started doing this... at first my hips were ahead of my hands/clubhead. Therefore, the ball was being pushed out to the right (I am right handed). But, after getting the timing down the ball was definitely going longer and straighter. It did not take long to see some progress with this looser swing. My grip is like a 2-3.... Thanks Paul....

    OMG, played twilight yesterday and tried this out, the first couple of balls I hooked, but I heard your voice in my head to keep going. By the 3rd hole I was hitting them long and straight, GPS watch said 283 and 296, it was effortless, some pulls but i'm still working on the proper lower body, I can only imagine the distance I can get. Can't wait to come to one of your 3 day academies.

    My big miss is a push slice when I really try to give it extra with the driver and 3i/4i. I’ll remember to stay loose out there! Your tips over the lockdown helped transform my game from a 105 shooter last year to a best score of 88 this year. Next is to develop my short game. Pitches, chips, and putting. I’m getting fairly consistent with landing approach shots on the green from 150 down to 85 or so. Not as good with the partial shots shorter than my lob wedge.

      Pitching is simple. Set the backswing by hinging your wrists for the shot you are trying to hit. Once set, turn your belt buckle as I show in this tip to hit the shot. HINGE/TURN

      Chipping is easy too. It's a stroke like putting. Ball back instep. Hands forward. 3 knuckle grip. Weight forward. Stroke it like a putt.

      @@paulwilsongolf the truth is, I’m hardly ever pulling my wedges. I either hit it dead straight on target, or push it a substantial amount to the right. This big push to the right at this range has me missing greens that I should be able to hit easily. Is this having due to my wrists being too tight, similar to my issue with the push slice with the driver? Thanks for the reply!

    I've a slower swing speed around 70mph after not playing for many years

      Welcome aboard! Yes, at 70mph you need to really really loosen the wrists. Get this then just add a little body for more power.

    Thanks Paul, I have been trying to change to the effortless golf swing.. find it very challenging in trying to "hinge" my wrists, difficult change to make when you have been used to the "conventional" swing process. When focusing on the hinging, have a problem with decelerating through the swing, OR to your example, I revert to stiff wrists and hit the push.. Will continue to persevere to effortless golf, unfortunately, it is taking more than a bucket of balls... Thanks for your videos!

      Glad you are trying. You need to be doing this daily at home every night in practice swings. Just do this drill:

    I was already practicing this loose wrist and notice it helped me to not release early on downswing. The feeling is uncontrollable, but, I ignore that feeling and let it rip.

    Worked on this today. I thought I couldn't easily loosen my wrists but apparently not enough b/c I was pushing, fading, and slicing even short irons. In order to square up the face, I had to consciously think about rolling over my right hand at impact.

      It should but if not start hooking every shot. You do that by rolling it early from the top. If you can do that you know what you are going to do before you do it. It will hook. At the point you can hook about 10 in a row start switching your thought to adding a little legs and hips and allow the rolling wrists to happen on their own. Keep adding more and more legs and hips until you hit it dead straight. So use the ball as a gauge to tell you how much legs you need. If you blow it right that's too much so back it off.     I’ve tried loose wrists and I feel like it’s a kinda like a whip.. should the feeling be like like the club digs its way into your pocket between thumb and point finger when you start the down swing? I hope I make some sense.. hard to explain the feeling 😅

    Hi, Paul. I’m an ardent follower and a Body Swing man. After watching this particular video again I have an observation/question and would appreciate learning whether or not I am on a right path.
    Loose wrists means no application of hinging-force by the wrists (correct?). If so, then what does hinge the wrists? My inference is that the momentum of the club must be hinging the wrists at the top of the backswing and re-hinges the wrists at the follow thorough. In other words, the arms come to a stop at the end of the backswing but the clubhead keeps going - thereby hinging the wrists. Likewise on the follow through.
    I have been trying to focus my senses on this momentum doing the hinging and re-hinging on my behalf. In other words trying to feel my arms come to a stop while the club keeps going and thereby hinging the wrist. Especially on the backswing.
    Is this a worthwhile sensation for me to have? Grateful for any comments about this.

      Powerless arms is the downswing not backswing (until you hinge your wrists without thinking about it). If you are following my Body Swing then looking through the order of how I teach it the powerless arms is the last step. You are doing this too soon. You need to work on the 4 positions. To do that you are purposely and physically doing them until you have them mastered. Last step is turn the arms off (downswing). For me my wrists hinge going back because I have done it for 40+ years. If yours are not then you need to manually hinge them. This would be setting the top of the backswing. At this point you switch your thought to legs and hips to start down. In no way are you pulling the club down (hitting) or just before you hit the ball you are trying to accelerate the club (helping). You just let the club go where ever it wants. You are using physics to square the face. Mass will always swing to it's widest point. In doing so the face would have to square without trying to square it. Again, this is the end goal. Keep perfecting the positions (4 of them) every night in a mirror. If you do my positions you would look like a tour pro. At this point alone you should be hitting it amazingly well. Turn the arms off and miracles happen.

      The Body Swing course, for me, is like reading a book. Multiple readings produce cumulative insights. I had missed the fact that the positions came first, powerless arms last.
      I am nailing the first two positions and making progress with the other two. It was an epiphany to feel the first two (finish) positions.

      @@paulwilsongolf After getting your helpful comments I have been working on the four positions. I am now making practice swings about a foot above the ground with no ball. I have found that I can’t easily swing into positions 1 and 2 (finish) unless I address the ball with my left foot flared out a lot. More than 45 degrees.
      I didn’t use a protractor, but at about 55 or 60 degrees I can comfortably achieve the positions. Less than 45 degrees and it is hard for me to finish where I should be. Is this a problem? Any insights or advice will be welcomed.

      That is too much flare out of the foot. This will hamper the backswing coil. Turn it back to 20-30 turned out. Throw some balls overhand out in front of you. When you do you will see that you can in fact do it without turning the foot out too much. This sis the same move in your swing. The issue is always that the person doesn't lock the lead leg. So check this. You will see it lock when you throw a ball and the hips will turn so they are perpendicular to the target line. Keep doing it daily. Also, you can use a chair or vertical club for balance so you can do it anywhere. Train this then you have it.

      @@paulwilsongolf Thank you. I did as you instructed and it worked. I believe I’m achieving the 1 and 2 positions very well and automatically on every swing. I went to the practice range yesterday and the strikes were uniformly solid. As you say in the course, just fixing the finish had me striking the ball better than I ever had in my life. Not much longer, but more solid and consistent. It felt good.
      However, learning positions 3 and 4 is a real struggle after so many years taking the club back with my arms and not much coil. I today tried the drills shown in your tip "2 TAKEAWAY DRILLS TO BUILD A PERFECT BACKSWING". I can coil in stop-start fashion per the drills, but I can’t seem to turn that into one integrated motion. Do you have any comments or insights to overcome this? Just keep doing the drills until it smooths out?

    Hey Paul, had some good success with this at the range. I want to move along but how do I implement this change into my round? On the course transition.
    I will shift over to the turn, more, over time, but maybe too much while trying to play rounds?

      Just go out by yourself with 3 extra golf balls in your pocket. Swing at 50% and just try it. If it's not a great shot drop another ball. At some point you need to do this stuff on the course but if you never try it you will never do it. Playing with friends when you are learning something or keeping score is not good. It puts you under pressure when you are trying new things. So try that and keep doing this stuff at the range until it's grooved.

    Hi Paul. I recently subscribed to your excellent channel. This tip about loosening the wrists really works, I can tell already. I have been struggling with something and hope you can point me to a video that will help. I tend to release the club slightly early, just before impact. I want to learn to hit the ball with my hands a little ahead of the ball and have the clubhead catch up a few feet past impact. I can do it sometimes but I'm not consistent. What would you suggest?       Slowing down is to get you to take the arms out of the swing. You are not doing this forever. You are doing it until you stop hitting. Once you can do that you are switching the power source to your legs and hips. You start firing the lower body harder for more power you never hit harder for you more power.

    Paul, my issue is when i go loose wrists I cannot keep my lead wrist flat at impact I cast & it pronates and I get zero consistency. This has been a problem for years. Repetition does nothing for my brain.

      Yeah, if your arms were turned off (which they are not) there is no way you would cast the club. Also, through impact your arms would stretch out fully re-creating the same arc you pre-determined at set up plus in no way would you be manipulating the clubface so it too would repeat within the few degrees necessary to hit amazing shots very consistently. So you may be trying to keep the wrists loose and you release it. If you released it early you would be hooking every shot which is a good thing. Then you add body to straighten it out. I get the feel you are thinking you are loosening but then using zero body so the club releases early and you get the flip. Watch:

      The work on releasing it early and get every ball hooking. If so, this is half right and we know where you are going to hit it before you hit it. At this point you switch to lower body to straighten it out.

    One of the funniest things I've heard is Hank Haney, a while back, responding to a student who said they didn't like to "let go" when they swing because they feared losing control. Paraphrasing, Haney said: "Lose control? You hit your driver 150 yards. You don't HAVE any control to lose". One of the toughest things to learn is that progress is not linear (not my words): You can't hit a few, or even a bucket, of balls and then quit when you don't see results. It takes a long time, you'll take steps forward, then backwards, but if you stick with it this approach DOES work (as, to be fair, do others). You have to be willing to work.

    Such great advice Paul. Made an enormous difference to my Irons, I still tend to struggle with the rehinge/release part and as a consequence my miss is a big push slice...ay caramba. Love your videos and content

    get more with less, sounds odd but buy hitting the ball in a slower down swing , the spin on the ball is less, witch leads to strighter shots, its the spin that makes the ball slice

      You are swinging looser not slower. You can learn it swinging slow too. I am putting a lot into it with my legs and hips not my hands and arms.

      No exactly sure what that means. Your hands are secured on the club. Your wrists are what is hinging and rehinging.

    Effortless and golf swing are not synonymous with my game. I'm a strong hitter....sometimes too much so which costs me some level of consistency..but I did drive a 305 yard green today..played that fade of mine perfectly 😁

      Fade is good. You can still have huge power without using your arms. Up to you if you want to turn them off. I plan for the future. I will be hitting huge when I'm 90 because I can do nothing and out drive every student. Just did it in a school this weekend. 8 people (men). Out drover every one barely swinging.

      Exactly. In baseball you are still using your legs and hips though. So you have the right power source. It's just that you are adding the extra of the hitting with arms. This is what I used to do pre 1999. This was the missing piece for me but no one ever said to not hit it with my arms. So I completely turned them off. So now I try to not hit or help the shot in any way with the arms. They move because my body moves. My wrists are loose which generates the clubhead speed. If you want to work on this you need a pretty neutral grip. Work on hinging and rehinging to loosen the wrists. Then slowly reduce the arm strength feeling the legs and hips as the power source.

      Well some are tight some loose. I tend to look at the past and the best golfers of all time not pros that will never be the best of all time. Back then they were loose. Pros now are definitely trying to kill it.

    Years ago I was with a friend at a course where they had an "iron Byron" hitting machine demo. The one thing I remember that somewhat surprised both my friend and I was that the part of the machine that corresponded to the wrists was as loose as you could imagine. You could just barely tap it and the club would easily sway back and forth when the machine was not operating and the club was just hanging straight down. That right there told me "loose wrists"!

      I have based my teaching on Iron Byron since 1999. My first book released in 2001 called Swing Machine Golf as well as follow up videos in 2005 all take you step by step how to copy the machine. In 2004 I was fortunate enough to go to Tunica Mississippi to hit balls with Iron Byron and we flew in the inventor of the machine George Manning. Loose wrists is one of the key elements of the machine and was backed up by George as an essential element. So yes, you are correct in relating loose wrists to Iron Byron. This is why I teach this element.
